Chapter 15. At noon the man called preacher enters into the building that once upon a time uses to be his church. He wasn’t sure what he would find when he stepped through the front double doors but nothing could of prepared Preacher for what he saw. The welcome center area of most church were normally where you get to meet and greet new faces before entering the chapel was now currently empty. Preacher noticed that Miss Dean replaced all the signs of old church programs and replaced them with new politically correct programs. Like the annual food drive to feed the needy was replaced with a program that helps teen’s to identify with the sex they want to be and Christian movie night where the congregation got to watch the latest Christian movies with biblical values was now replaced with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. Preacher feared walking into the chapel at first because he almost expected that Miss Dean remove the cross from behind the pulpit and replaced it with a giant picture of herself. Preacher enters to find the cross was still there but the Jesus that hung on it was black now instead of Jewish. Preacher quietly takes a seat in the back roll of the church. Miss Dean was on stage behind the pulpit rehearsing for a upcoming Services. “Moses freed the Jewish slaves from the grip of the Egyptians” yelled Miss Dean in a loud voice. “today white evangelicals want to help political parties to get elected so they can throw black people back into slavery” Preacher couldn’t help himself from laughing out loud at the outlandish remarks made by Miss Dean. Miss Dean immediately became outraged as she slowly made her way off the stage and walks back to confront the disruption of her weekly rehearsal. “you are truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing Miss Dean” said Preacher getting up from his seat to look this evil woman in her eyes. After Miss Dean got close enough to see that her disruptor was the churches former pastor she quickly pulls out a hand gun she had hidden in her back pant’s pocket. Miss Dean had received a great number of death threats since taking up the mantle of church pastor. “I should shot your white racist ass where you stand” threatened Miss Dean but deep down inside she wanted to unload every bullet her gun had into Preacher’s face. This was the man who fought her in the beginning on making the church more modern and more politically correct on it’s views. “you preach about division and your calling me a racist” ask Preacher. “I’m in my rights to just shoot you” said Miss Dean with a gratifying smile on her face. “let’s be very clear” said Preacher. “I want to kill you” Miss Dean smile got bigger and she pull back the hammer on the gun in her hands. “but God want me to offer you a choice” said Preacher and he gently takes the barrel of Miss Dean’s gun and places it against his forehead. “you can do the right thing in God’s eyes and I will let you live or you can pull that trigger” Miss Dean gives Preacher a joyful laugh before showing him all her teeth. Suddenly Miss Dean pulls the trigger of her gun only to hear the clicking noise of the gun’s firing pin connecting with the back of a bullet to no prevail. “proverbs 29-12 a fool gives vent to his spirit, but a wise man lets it go” said Preacher then he quickly punches Miss Dean in the face, hitting her so hard it renders her unconscious. Preacher wasn’t surprised that the gun didn’t fire, it was another of the gifts that God saw fit to give him. Cory was in complete shock by the coincidence between this morning news story about the God’s will killer and her crazy homicidal dream last night. The one thing this morning that didn’t come as a surprise was the mental health heart to heart that both Timmy and Meg gave her after the morning news. Cory kind of half expected the conversation considering her mental breakdown in the movie theater lobby last night and It even scared Cory a little bit that she found herself agreeing with the both of them. Cory was honest with herself and knew her mental state been in question since the night Jason Grey had raped and almost killed her. Meg willingly volunteered her professional services at first but Timmy very quickly shot that idea down and Cory had to admit that she didn’t feel comfortable share her deeply psychotic thoughts with Timmy’s aunt. Then after along discussion Meg suggested that Cory talked to a counselor at one of the local church in the neighborhood. Meg afterwards preceded in making several phone calls till she was happy talking to a representative at one of the local churches that requested that they come see there pastor sometime after 1 a clock in the afternoon because there pastor who was called Miss Dean normally practice her weekly sermons in the early afternoon through out the week. Miss Dean woke up with her face hurting and she was laying on her office floor behind her large office desk. She tried to move only to find both her hands and feet were tightly bonded by zip ties and a large piece of duct tape was wrapped around her head to cover her mouth. Miss Dean looked up to find Preacher sitting in her office chair staring down at her. “your not supposed to be a wake yet” said Preacher and he violently proceeds punching Miss Dean in the face several times knocking her back into a unconscious state once again. Preacher almost felted in a way like he was being reward for his service as the God’s will killer. Preacher hated Miss Dean deeply in his heart which made him wonder if his treatment toward the woman was more of a test. Preacher more than anything wanted to load up his prize into the back of his car parked behind the church, but God seem to have other plans for him as Preacher waited for God to make things a little more clear for him when suddenly a knocking come from the closed office door. Preacher looks down at the unconscious Miss Dean under the deck for a moment before making his way over to the door. Preacher stared back at the desk to made sure Miss Dean presents wouldn’t be noticed by his visiting guest. Once Preacher opens the door his first react was shock because the blonde teen girl he seen on the news the other day was now standing directly in front of him. He stood there in a uncomfortable silence for a moment studying her for any signs of the demon God had warned him about. “we have a counseling appointment with pastor Dean” said Timmy trying to break the awkward moment of this strange handsome man staring at his girlfriend. “my apologies” said Preacher waving for the two teenagers to enter the office. “please take a seat” Preacher gently closes the door and studies once more to make sure Miss Dean wasn’t visible before taking a sit behind the large desk. “our appointment is with a Miss Dean” said Timmy pointing out his disapproval of Preacher. “Miss Dean is currently unavailable” said Preacher. “I do have training in mental health and psychology” “well, it was nice meeting you” said Timmy quickly getting back up from his seat. “if pastor Dean not here we will be going” “no” said Cory remaining in her seat with a firmness in her voice. “let’s give this guy a chance” Cory understood that Timmy was jealous of the handsome Pastor but her mental state kept get worst and she need Timmy to put his own personal issues to the side for now. “would you stand up for a moment” ask Preacher as he comes back around the desk stopping in front of Cory. Preacher takes both of the blonde girl’s hands into his hand. Preacher closes his eyes and lowers his head for a short prayer, he could tell that this seem to irritate the blonde girl’s companion. Preacher opens his eyes then holds Cory’s hands out in the air to both sides of her. Preacher intensely looks over the blonde teen girl’s body waiting for God to show him something. Preacher found that the girl was dressed in a outfit that didn’t leave must to the imagination and Preacher notice that him studying the girl seem to enrage the teenage boy even more. “have you seen enough yet” ask Timmy not trying to hide his jealousy. “don’t pay him any mind I’m uses to people looking at me like that” answered Cory almost like she was defending the pastor’s wondering eyes. “you don’t dress like this to get everyone’s attention” said Preacher. “why do you feel like this is how the world is wanting to see you” “yes” answered Cory remembering saying these same words to Timmy days ago in there home town of Lynn and he discarded them as raving of someone that’s mentally ill. Preacher let’s his hand slide across the girl’s shoulder and gently takes a hold of a locket of Cory’s black hair. Preacher understood why she dyed the end of her blonde hair black. “this darkness inside you is not your fault child” said Preacher. Cory remains silence for a moment remembering how she once warned Timmy early that summer about the darkness inside her. Timmy now found himself so dumbfounded that he couldn’t speak, this man of God seem to have a inside track on the life of Cory Potts. Timmy fought the urge to tell the counseling pastor about his girlfriend having these full conversations with a imaginary Jason Grey but he feared what bring it up could do to his relationship with Cory. Cory turned her head to look to her side because suddenly she felt the presence of Jason Grey in the room. Preacher eyes followed Cory’s glazes off to her side to find a rather tall and bulky size man was now standing next to her and for a brief moment Preacher and Jason Grey made direct eye contact with each other. “can you see me” ask Jason Grey directing the question at the pastor. Preacher does his best to hide his shock and try’s not to a knowledge the image of the strange figure standing next to the blonde girl. “get me the fuck out of here” yelled Jason Grey as he screamed his demands at Cory. “you see him don’t you” ask Cory now looking Preacher in the eyes. Preacher answers her question with a simple nods of his head, yes. “Jason Grey is dead” stated Timmy in a very angry voice directed toward Cory not liking where this conversation has gone. “why do I see him everywhere then” ask Cory with the facial expression of someone that’s wounded. “this thing your seeing and talking to is a demon” said Preacher with a serious tone. “more like a corrupt soul” said Jason Grey with a uncomfortable laugh. “I heard enough of this shit” said Timmy as he quickly takes Cory by the hand and pulls her up to her feet. “dam you, can’t you see that she is mentally ill and your trying to feed her with your demonic bullshit” yelled Timmy making a point to show how upset he is about the direction there conversation has taken. “I apologize for this” said Cory as she lowers her head in shame for a moment before runs out the office. By the time Cory made it to the outside of the church she found herself crying uncontrollably. It was too painful to know now that Timmy thought she was mentally ill. Timmy approached her in the church parking lot and tried to embrace in his arms only to have Cory push him away at first. He tries once more and this time she let’s herself fall into Timmy’s arms as the tears welled their way out of her. They was something about Timmy that made her pain feel real.
