Epilogue: Adam/The Neighboring Man

My dearest EV:

It is very hard being in here.  I miss everything about you, even your smart mouth.  Had I had more time with you, I might have been able to cure you of that, but then again, you are very headstrong.  It is one of the qualities I love about you.  I also hate it about you.  You did know how to make me angry.

My outside sources have informed me that you are romantically involved with the detective I stabbed.  I should have used a bigger knife or plunged the one I used in deeper.  Do you kiss his scars?  Does he kiss yours?  I am sure you have more scars than he does.   I take pride in that.   Of course, some of yours are unseen.  Does he know about all the ways I touched you?  Does he know that you moaned when I fucked you with my mouth?  Does he fuck you with his mouth?  Do you see me when he is plunging into you?  Do you cry after sex with him, Ev?  Better yet, do you even let him touch you?  I do wonder about these things late at night in my cell, with the moon light shining into my barred window.  It makes me hard just thinking about you.  I will never see him with you.  It is always ME who touches you.  Mr. Detective will eventually leave you.   He will see me doing all those dirty things to you.  All men will leave you.  They will see your scars and think it is revolting the things I did to you.  Imagine what they think of the scars they can’t see.  The ones deep, deep inside you.

On to other things, how is that son of yours?  I bet he is growing into a fine young man.  My sources tell me he has really taken a liking to the detective.  I heard he would like to be a cop after he gets out of high school.   I guess Mr. Detective has inspired him.  Being a cop is dangerous work, Ev.  I know it was must concern you, especially when you saw Mr. Detective bleeding out.  Is he able to take courses yet?  Have you tried to discourage him? You just never know who might be out there gunning for him.  Scary times we live in.

How is Dug? D-U-G.  I heard you inherited some money from the old bitch.   Hardly seems fair since I am a blood relative, but oh well, maybe someday, I can really get to know Dug better.  Wouldn’t that be nice for him to get back in the family fold?  Blood is thicker than friendship.  He should know his TRUE family, Ev.  His real brother.

How is the new business going?  You’re a private investigator, I hear.  Well, good for you!  Do you have any clients yet?  Do you carry a gun?  Can you shoot left handed since you don’t have a right hand?  It must be difficult shooting left handed with no thumb.  Kudos on that, Ev.   I never, ever thought you would bite off your own thumb to escape.  You are full of surprises.

                                             SO.  AM.  I.

See you soon.

Love,

Adam
