Donnie

On the ride back to my grandparent’s my mother was very quiet. I imagine we were speechless due to the night’s events. It was the craziest shit I had ever seen and I still had goose bumps from the creep factor that Dug’s ramblings about the nightmare man. His seizure didn’t help the creepiness a bit. Not only that, I felt bad for the dude. I felt bad for his mom too. She was pretty old and seemed really frail. I also really liked Dug. He made me feel like a kid again. It made me happy to be in his presence. I don’t know what kind of power he had, but he had some good mojo. Not only did he have the good mojo but he obviously had another gift too. Apparently, he knew things. How creepy is that? I mean, honestly, there are so many things in this world I wouldn’t want to know and then to just have a vision or something that had to be pretty close to officially sucking ass. Imagine, having no idea what might pop into your brain at any given time. It would drive me insane. Something that popped into his head had scared him badly enough that he had a seizure. Poor guy. Talk about something sucking balls.

Not only does he have the “feelings” but the poor guy has Down’s syndrome. How is he supposed to deal with those things he sees or feels or whatever the fuck. I looked at my mom and she was pretty pale. The fact that Neighboring Man has set his sights on my mom was just weird. I mean who in their right mind would set their sights on my mom? I mean she is so NOT cool. She is pretty much a total pain in the ass. I mean she is my mother. To me she isn’t pretty, she isn’t rad and by no means can I imagine anyone stalking her or thinking she is the be all end all. She wears her hair short, almost boyish in style, she doesn’t wear a lot of makeup and her taste in clothes leaves the hippies and hobos begging for their wardrobe back.

“Are you okay?” she asked me. “I know you must be confused.”

“Mom, he had a seizure.” I told her rolling my eyes. “I know what that is.”

She started to say something and then stopped. She took a deep breath. “I’m still sorry you had to see that, but you handled it really well.”

I grunted and shrugged my shoulders in my usual fashion that drove her nuts. “Dug is pretty cool. I hope he is okay.”

“Me too, Donnie. He is a sweet man, with a good soul and Ness loves him more than anything,” she told me. “They are good people. Goodness like theirs is hard to find these days. I am lucky they want to be friends with me. It is funny how people come into your lives. ”

“I like them,” I told her. “I wouldn’t mind going back to see them.”

A smile spread across my mother’s face. “I am sure they would like that. I know I would.”

Oh God, I thought. She is going to get all mushy. I just hope she doesn’t think this means I forgive her because I don’t. She irritates me and makes me so mad. I rolled my eyes at her. “Don’t get all dramatic, Mom.”

She messed up my hair. I grunted and she dropped me at my grandparents. She tried to hug me but I moved away so she couldn’t. My mom is a total pain in the ass and as much as I want to hate her: I love her.
