Donnie

I stood in the hall eavesdropping, listening to what the lawyer was telling my mother.   Ness had left us a large amount of money.  We were rich.   The very idea saddened me, because we had lost Ness to attain the wealth.   I would have never guessed that Ness had a big stash of money.  Never.   How did she make it?  Did she invest?  I didn’t even know what a person had to do to invest money.  My mother was holding the envelope the lawyer had left her.  I was curious to know what Ness said in it.   Ness was a conundrum.  She carried herself like a woman who didn’t have much, but Dug and I know she was worth more than any amount of money.   What would my mother do with the money?  What if my mother didn’t recover and was mentally unstable due to her injuries?   What if she couldn’t take care of herself, me or Dug? How could she not be unstable considering what had happened to her?  Was she going to testify against that prick that did all the damage to her? What horrible things would he say about my mother to make himself look innocent?  I had read in the papers that many times rape victims are made into the criminals, instead of the victims?  Although, Adam was in jail, I felt like our journey was hardly over.

My mind was filled with so many questions and very few answers.
