I waved at my brother, and smiled like an idiot. I ran to his car, and ran across the street. I almost got to his car, when I tripped, and fell five feet away. I poked my head up, and smiled, and gave him a thumbs up.
I got up, and opened the passenger’s side door, and threw my backpack into the back.
"Hey. I didn’t expect you to be here. " I said getting in, and buckling up.
"I grabbed your bag from your room. Mom knows what we are doing. " He held out his fist. I bumped his fist.
"So we’re going straight there, then? " I looked at him. He nodded."Yep, we are. "
"Okay. I’m hungry though. "
"What do you want?" He drove onto a busy part of the parkway.
"I could go for some chicken nuggets"
He nodded, and drove down the parkway, and stopped at a fast food restaurant. We both got chicken nuggets, fries, and cokes. We ate them, while driving to his University.
"So I’m staying in your dorm"
"yeah, I made you place to sleep, and everything. It’s not very big, but we will manage. "
"Okay. I don’t need much. "
He looked at me, and smiled tenderly. He parked the car, and we got out. I was in amazement at University. I hope the people are kind, and intelligent. High school is full of self-centered people, who care only about the newest app, or the latest fashion.
I grabbed my bag from his trunk, and walked into his dorm. It smelled of burnt coffee, and lemon pledge. We walked up the stairs because there was a long line at the elevator. One was broken, and there was only one other one.
It was four flights of stairs to get to his floor, then we got to his room at the end of the hall. He opened the door.
"My roommate isn’t here. You can put your stuff down." He saw me put my stuff on a twin sized air mattress. His room was messy with clothes everywhere.
" So can I get a tour? "
He chuckled, and plugged his phone up. "Okay. Well this is the living, dining and bedroom. My closet." He said pointing. "Here is the tiniest bathroom ever."
"Looks.. um cozy. " I said with a slight laugh. I looked around, and saw notes from his classes, and textbooks scattered across his desk, and bed. University Alexander was different. He was clean cut, and very organized in high school. However, he was very messy person now, or maybe I didn’t know him as well as I though. He grew his hair out, and looked like he hadn’t cleaned his room since moving in.
"lets look around campus, Alex." I got up, and fixed my hoodie.
He smiled, and scratched his head. "Yeah, sure, little brother. "
We walked out the door, and he grabbed his phone. We saw where he had English, and history and philosophy. It was an old building. He told me that it been the first building to be built. It smelled like old people, and weed.
He showed me the library. It was smaller than I had imagined, and there were no books on the first floor. It just had a cafe, and some computers, and some rooms to study in. We got a coffee from the cafe and walked passed the business building. He told me his roommate was a business major.
We passed the science building, and engineering building. He told me he was majoring in Mechanical engineering.
"That’s cool. So, like you want to build stuff?" I said, taking a sip of my coffee. It was bitter, yet sweet. He sat on the grass, and I sat next to him.
"Yeah. something like that. "
I could feel that there was more to it than just building stuff, but I didn’t want to pry. I didn’t want to disturb the peace between my brother and I at the moment. I just got here, and was his guest. He was my best friend, and I respected who he was, so I just smiled, and sipped my now cold coffee that was bitter, with an overdose of sugar.
