Chapter 30

We threw our take out boxes in the trash outside the movie theater, and walked in. It was more crowded than being outside. I was super uncomfortable. We stood in line to get out tickets in the shortest line of ten people at the ticket kiosk. These ticket kiosks were a good idea, where we did not have to talk to anyone. One just punched in the movie they wanted to see, when they wanted to see it, and pick their seats. Most of the newer movies that were out were all sold out. So we settled on watching "Wonder Woman. "

"You get the seats Jeong. I’ll get the popcorn, and coke. " Emily said, handing me the tickets. I told the person that took the tickets. He gave me a look like "What the hell is wrong with you, you loser. You bought two tickets, and to see "Wonder Woman’" He was a tall dark-skinned guy with long dreads. He let me in, and nodded, and said "Have a good time. "

I walked into the theater, and found our seats. It was a bit too close to the screen, but it was the only two seats that were next to each other’s, and we wanted to sit next to each other. I felt like other people were staring at me because I walked into a movie alone. I heard them laughing, and my mind went immediately thought they were laughing at me. I do not know why it was socially wrong to do something as simple as watching a movie alone. Society really is vain, and full of fake love for others. They do not really care about you, it just to make themselves feell better about their bad personality. Society does not want free thinkers. True free thinkers, and not some hipster, who eats organic, and spends all day on a Mac laptop.

A few minutes later, Emily walks in, and sits in the empty seat next to me.

"The lines were super long. I got us a popcorn, and coke to share. " She handed me a tub of popcorn that covered my tiny torso. The coke was almost that big.

"It’s fine. You did not miss anything, but a few corny trivia questions, and the reminders to turn your phone off"

She chuckled, and kissed my cheek. We sat there, and a few handfuls of popcorn. It was almost empty by the time the movie started. How is it that every time I go to the theaters, I always end up eating all the popcorn before the movie, or in this instance, most of it. There has to psychological reasoning behind this phenomenon.

Emily put her head on my shoulder as the movie started, and I wanted to put my arm around her. I hesitated, when she first did. How did the other guy in front of me make it look so easy? What is his secret for being so confident. After about three long excruciating anxiety riddled minutes that seemed to drag on forever.  I felt like I had taken some numbing pill, and my body was having some sort of bad reaction. I placed my arm around Emily, as we watched the movie. She did not seem to mind, and sipped some coke, leaning forward instead of taking the cup out of the holder. That was so cute, my heart exploded within my chest. It was like hitting a piñata, when you hit, and all the candy fell out. It was that kind of cute. She was adorable. She was kawaii.

When the movie finished, she sat up. "We should wait until, the theater empties. It’s going to be a stampede out the door. " I nodded agreeing with her, and smiling big.

"That sounds like a great idea. "

"You’re so cute. My little introverted boyfriend. " She squished my face, and started kissing me. We kissed until everyone had left the room, and then kissed some more.

"Can you leave now, so we can clean. " I booming angry voice said.

"Sorry. " Emily said, as we scurried out the of the theater. The voice was little brown-haired girl. How did she develop such a deep voice? She looked angry.

We ran out, in a fit of giggles, holding each other’s hand. We went to the bathroom, and I texted my mom to tell her we were out, while Emily was in the bathroom. My mother said she would be there in fifteen, at the back of the theater, which was code word for five, or she was already there.  Mothers were always early. Maybe it was a girl thing, except for being in the bathroom. They took their time in there with everything. I do not blame them though. You need to take your time in the bathroom. She came out, skipping over to me. Literally, she was skipping.

"Ready to go?" She said, and held my hand. I was blushing with emotion, and said. "Yeah."

We walked out, and went around to the back of the movie theater. My mother was there, and we got in. It was midnight, and we took Emily home.

I walked her to the car because I wanted to do the gentlemen thing. I helped her out of the car, and held her hand, walking her to the door.

"I had a great time tonight. " She said standing in the doorway.

"Yeah, Me too. "

"Good night my sweet Jeong. " She leaned in to kiss me, and the lights flickered. I saw a grump of a man in the window. That must have been her dad, but he could pass for her grandfather. She rolled her eyes, and pecked my lips, and went in. I walked back to the car, and got in to Tai singing the K-I-S-S-I-N-G song with Emily, and my name. I hit him, and told him to stop.  I was smiling like an idiot, staring out the window. I was still on a euphoric high.

We got back home. I took my pants off, and listened to some music, and flopped on my bed until I fell asleep.
