Tobey and Tai are now sharing a bedroom. Tobey is much stronger than Tai, and tries to bully Tai. I can always hear them screaming, and fighting, since my room is right next to theirs. It was a Saturday Morning, and enough time had passed to get used to Tobey being here. Well, for being around him. Tobey was much worse than Tai. Tobey is mischievous, and sneaky. I heard them yelling at each other the top of their lungs. I was in the kitchen fixing lunch of beef and mixed vegetables. I sighed, and plated the lunches. Then I heard a loud crash. I rushed upstairs to their room, and I found that their lamp was shattered into a million pieces.
"What happened?" I snapped, and folded my arms, and looked at them and waited for a response.
Both Tobey and Tai started talking, and the were waving their hands wildly. I sighed, and shouted." Shut up! Go downstairs and go eat. And don’t look at each other or say anything! " I yelled at them, my voice cracking a little.
I cursed, and cleaned up the lamp, and threw it out in the garbage outside. The twins actually did as they were told, which was surprising. I walked back into the house, and Tobey had had finished eating the meat. He tried to get up, but I forced him back down to eat his vegetables. He huffed, and gave me the evil look, and threw his plate on the grounds so all the food was on the floor. I gasped.
I knew how I wanted to handle this. I wanted to let all the rage of me seeing him bullying Tai, and smack the shit out of him.
All brothers wanted to kill each other at some point, but Tobey pushed it to a daily basis. I’m sure I got on Alexander’s nerves, like Tai sometimes got on mine.
I pulled Tobey up by his shirt and pushed him to go upstairs. I came back in, and Tai had eaten every bit of his food. He ran upstairs screaming that I hurt him, and that he hated it here. I sighed, and went back into the kitchen, and knelt on the ground to pick up the pieces of the broken plate.
"Mom’s not going to be too happy with this." I said with a sigh.
"I’m sorry big brother." He bends down with some napkins to pick up the vegetables.
I looked at him, and smiled, the picked up more pieces. " It’s not your fault, Xiao. " When I said "Xiao." It dawned on me that I was Tai’s Alexander, and I needed to be more like Alexander.
"He’s such a prick." Tai said growlingly.
"Don’t say that, Tai. You don’t know what it was like for him to go through all that he has been through. " I glared at Tai. " It has to have been rough dealing with Dad’s death. He was the closest to Dad. Just try to get along with him. Have a little pity on Tobey at the moment. He may not know how to internalize what he is feeling, and taking it out on fits of aggressiveness." I said throwing away the pieces of broken plate, and grabbing a broom.
Tai nodded, and stood up, and watched me as I swept. I held the dust pan still, as I swept up the little bitty pieces of broken plate. Tai walked over with the dust pan full to the trash and emptied it. He came back.
"You can go and watch tv, or go outside Tai. I’ll finish cleaning up." I looked at him, then I resumed sweeping the whole kitchen floor.
"No, that’s okay. I’ll help you out big brother. " he stood there, and knelt down to let me sweep the dirt and some more broken plate, and then he threw it away.
"Can I wipe the counter down, Jeong?" He grabbed a rag, and some cleaner from the under the sink.
"Yeah, go ahead. " I said sweeping the corners to the the middle. I swept, and caught that Tobey was peeping on us from the living room. I smiled, and continued sweeping.
"Jeong. " Tobey said, stepping into the light of the kitchen.
I looked up, and stopped sweeping. "Yeah, Tobey?"
"I’ll do that. " He said reaching for the broom. I put the broom out of reach. "No." I said. "You can go load the dishwasher if you want to help. "
He looked at me, and nodded with sad eyes. Tai looked at him, with a glare, but turned into a smile, and said that the dishwashing soap is under the sink. Tobey nodded and said thanks, and started loading the dishwasher. Tai was scrubbing down the counters, and I was sweeping the floor.
Tobey finished loading the dishwasher, and started the it, and looked at me. I swept up the last bit, and put in in the trash can, and put the broom back. I put the cleaning products back under the sink.
"Alright. Let’s get out of the kitchen, and go watch some tv, or something. " I ruffled Tai’s hair, and looked at Tobey, who looked like he was sulking, leaning against the counter.
"Tobey? " He perked up, and looked at me, when I said his name. "Everything okay?"
He nodded, but when I reached out to touch him on the shoulder, he moved quickly away, and went up to his room, and shut the door. I watched him, and felt guilty for being rough on him out of anger. I wanted to, and should have gone up and talked to him, but I did not. I sat with Tai on the couch, and watched Lord of the Rings. There was all three of them coming on tonight.
"I’m Aragorn, and you be Legolas." Tai stood on couch, acting like he was some high king.
"Why do I have to be Legolas? "
"because your fabulous like he is."
I rolled my eyes. "Okay. If you say so. "
"You have flowing hair like he does, and act arrogant, and you’re really smart." He said and bent down and poked my cheek. I swatted his hand away, and poked him in the forehead, so that he would fall back, but stood up.
"Come Legolas. Let us fight! How dare you look at Arwen with such eyes."
I looked at him confused, and chuckled, and played along." You dare acuse me of such things! " I stood up, and looked arrogantly at him. "You should know better than falsely accuse an elf."
Tai took a deep step into the couch, and lunged forward with his fist at me, and I caught his fist, and tried to keep from hitting my head, or keep from him hitting his head on the coffee table.
"Arwen is mine, and I will fight for her. " He said as he was punching me playfully. I shoved him off me, but when I sat up, he lunged at me from behind and took me down again, and wrapped his arms around my neck. "You give up yet?"
"Yes. I’m sorry Oh great one!" I was a little winded from falling over. Tai stood up, and placed his foot on me, and said, " Don’t ever come between me, and Arwen, or even look at her again." I knocked his foot away, almost causing him to crash onto the floor. I sat on my knees, and looked at him. "You’re such a turd."
He waved his finger, and stuck his hip out. "Thou shall not use such language in the presence of a King. "
