Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Transilience

I'm sitting here writing this update whilst listening to Yoko Kanno's Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex OST and reminded of two things. One, just how talented a composer she is. And two, how amazing of a series GITS is. I hope the big budget production isn't a let down.

Onward....

What a weekend Transilience has had! Ten preorders in the span of about 48 hours. I have a few people to thank and what a wonderful burden it is! So a hearty THANK YOU to Tim Merchant, Gareth Fernie, Joseph Asphahani, Mr R W H Bray, Amanda Orneck, Billy O'Keefe, Steven Davies and Tony Valdez.

Transilience has also received some fantastic reviews. That complete strangers would write such kind things about something I have created is humbling. So please allow me to use this polite expression to the compliment received. Mr. Ryan, Mr. Cargnan, Mr. Sobin and Mr. Asphahani, Thank You!

A quick aside: Mr. R W H Bray has written a book, himself, which is currently in the midst of a funding campaign of its own on a UK site called Unbound. Rich is a friend of mine and he really knows how to spin a yarn. His novel, In Cathedral's Shadow, is about love and loss and murder and the dark places of the mind and heart. All set in a small university town on the east coast of Scotland. You can check it out here.

Back to my stuff. Check this space tomorrow where I offer an insight as to why I set Transilience on Mars.

Until that moment, during that moment and after, if you haven't already, please consider supporting Transilience. And tell your friends about it! Your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, coworkers, acquaintances, people whose lives you think will be enriched by good literature!

Publication date is listed as December 2016. What better way to get some early Christmas shopping done than to order Transilience? Wait! So we are clear, that's a rhetorical question unless you happen to agree with it. Then I say, "I know! Pure genius, right?!?"

Let's keep the momentum going as the Sword and Laser contest deadline fast approaches. You know what they say about a rolling stone. It's probably set off by a tiny golden statue that looks like my grandpa, and will either crush under its enormous weight or seal you into a spider infested temple forever. So GO GO GO!!!

Cheers!

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Ghosts of War

So, this update is a day late...but there's a pretty great reason for that.

We did it. We got there. Ghosts of War's funding campaign is finished and it is now a part of the Quill Collection at Inkshares.

I couldn't have gotten Ghosts to this point without the help of those who backed it during it's run, and for that I'll be forever grateful. I really can't thank you all enough.

In closing, I think this sums up my feelings about today...

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Exile, Magus

      Sunday update time.

Quick status report: 278 followers, 80 orders, and only 11.5 days until the 1/22 campaign end date so definitely no time to delay in ordering.

Before we get to my weekly recommendations, I'll just point out that since a new order threshold has been hit it means I will be posting up the next section(4) of chapter 6.  In this section the cliffhanger of Pentaz versus Turideas will be resolved, but the cliffhanger surrounding D'naeshira is not resolved until section 5.   Keep those orders coming in so I don't have to leave anyone hanging much longer.

Now, to get on to the reviews.   Same format as last time, first a couple more of the reviews posted for Exile, Magus, and then I recommend/review a couple of other talented authors currently funding on Inkshares.

      "Exile, Magus" by meee!
Tabi Card, author of Scribbles: A Collection of Words, says, "Exile, Magus is a unique fantasy tale, giving new meaning to the word 'Epic'.  As you follow the life of Pentaz, you will be treated to an intricate blend of myth and magic, sit on the edge of your seat through intense battles, and chuckle at the witty banter of the characters as they face a variety of threats.  If you read fantasy, read this - I promise it will not disappoint!"

Byron Gillan, author of The Children of the Forest, says "A cool and unique fantasy story that hooks you in immediately.  The world-building is solid and the cast are interesting.   I really recommend checking this book out, it's awesome and needs more support!"

"The Knight Proper" by Adam Greven and Matt Deller:  A truly haunting opening that draws you in with its raw emotion and Otherworldly magic.  The incredibly well written narrative continues from there, and in the second chapter you are introduced to Cass the bard and Edwin the Knight Proper both with characterization done well enough to make you want to know everything about them.   I certainly can't wait to read more of this story, so that I can truly get to know its fascinating characters and witness their travails.

"The Slave Prince" by Jeyna Grace:   The opening paints a beautiful glimpse of a wondrous land and its downfall fitting for any fairy tale, while the next two chapters weaves the narrative into excellent characterizations for the main characters so that you quickly feel invested in their lives.  I'm eager to read more and find out how Thom continues to cope with his revelation, and to find out if his brotherhood with Dedric can be saved.  With Jeyna's terrific narrative I'm sure that the full book will be an inspiring read that I'm impatient for.

As always my math may be off, but if its not then "The Knight Proper" has a funding deadline around 2/9, and "The Slave Prince" around 3/5 so don't wait too long to check out both of these fine books.

That's all I've got for tonight's recommendations.  I hope I've pointed you in the direction of 2 new books which you'll order (or 3 books for those of you haven't ordered Exile, Magus yet).  I'm off to get Chapter 6 section 4 uploaded now.  I hope everyone has a good night and enjoys the reading!

Happy New Year, backers! I hope everyone's 2016 is off to a great start...

I'll be in Denver this Thursday to give a reading of UMDC at The Tattered Cover Bookstore on Colfax Avenue. The event begins at 7pm. If you know anybody in the area who might be interested, please let them know! Thanks :)

The novel was mentioned (briefly) on The Sinica Podcast, a popular show among expats in China. Over the course of this episode, the host and his guests talked about when and if we will ever see an expat novel in the tradition of "The Sun Also Rises" come out of China. The sad news was that no one on the show had read UMDC, but at least they've heard of it! The host said that it's on his "To Read" list. Skip ahead to 26:30 if you don't want to listen to the entire episode.

Also, if one of your resolutions for 2016 is to read more, join me in signing up for the 2016 Goodreads Reading Challenge! It's a great way to keep yourself accountable throughout the year.

And finally, if you've finished reading UMDC, please consider leaving a review of the novel on Goodreads and Amazon. Even if it's not a glowing, 5-star review, this will help me out A TON. Thank you so much to everyone who's already done so. Here are the links:

UMDC on Goodreads (Under "My Review," click "Add a review.")

UMDC on Amazon (Under "Customer Reviews," click "Write a customer review.")

You're the best backers a writer could ask for. THANK YOU!

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Nowhere Else I Want to Be

In 1996, Miriam's House opened its doors and welcomed Washington, DC's homeless women with AIDS.

Wouldn't it be great if we made sure Nowhere Else I Want to Be is published during Miriam's House's twentieth anniversary year?

We can do that with only 95 more pre-orders.

Please help me put this memoir into production by the end of January.

Will you please consider ordering one more book THIS WEEKEND? Or, if you've already ordered ten (the limit) getting a friend or colleague or family member to order?

If you order, you'll receive this mug as a gift. And the satisfaction of helping the voices of women who are to often ignored to be heard.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Exile, Magus

Saturday update time, a bit later than usual due to helping my roommates move.

As of now we're at 274 followers and 78 orders, which means two thresholds hit(and a 3rd so close to being hit) and 2 more sections of chapter 6 as a result. The next threshold is 290 followers and every 20 after, and/or at 80 orders and every 10 after.  In addition to that at 100 orders all remaining sections of chapter 6 as well as chapter 2.1 of book 2 (Exile, Hunted) will be posted, at 150 orders chapter 7 of Exile, Magus and chapter 2.2 of Exile, Hunted, at 200 orders chapter 8 or Exile, Magus and chapter 2.3 of Exile, Hunted, and as soon as we reach 250 orders I'll posted chapter 9 of Exile, Magus and chapter 2.4 of Exile, Hunted.

After reaching 250 orders all further thresholds will result in me posting more sections of Exile, Hunted, though the cutoff will be the end of Chapter 3 for it. I will warn anyone not wanting spoilers to not read Exile, Hunted yet, because it does have quite a few spoilers in regards to Exile, Magus.

The two sections of Chapter 6 that I'll be posting up today jump fully into the raid on the slavers' camp now that the introduction to the slavers' leader, Turideas Caldus, has been made. Of course we'll be seeing Buscidia and Pentaz in action, but I'm even more excited for you to see Quelzhumi, D'naeshira, and Kitden Zutden in action. All three of them have had a bit more training with their magic than Pentaz, and their approaches differ quite a bit from his so it was really a great chance for me to show off some of the different approaches to magic used by other Magi.

It does leave us on another cliffhanger though, so get those orders in as quickly as possible.  Since we are so close to the funding deadline, from this point on I'll post up new chapter sections at the same time as any update(typically Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday) so long as a new threshold has been met.

Without further ado, I'll go ahead and post up Chapter 6 sections 2 and 3 for your reading pleasure. Afterwards, if you're continuing to enjoy what my story is bringing to you then you should go to the book page here and click that order button so that I can keep posting more content for you and ultimately get the full book into your hands.  Only 13 days left now, so don't delay!

That's all for this Saturday update, due to a suddenly hectic schedule I may have to postpone my Sunday recommendations until Monday. As always thanks for your time and support, keep reading, and most importantly keep enjoying!
