Twins

My sister and I are alike in each and every way

To every question one of us asks, the other says “okay”

Our parents tell us they love us, each and every night

But one of says “lies”, the other one says “right”

Mommy and daddy say we can’t go to school

Saying that religion is king and education is the fool

So we learned to cook, and clean, and sew

And plant, and garden, and weed, and grow

For our birthday one of us was given a book of growing plants

And the other a book on baking, what a fateful chance

And as these things came together, try as though they might

We finally decided that our parents would die the very next night

One of us cut off the leaves as the book had told us so

As one of us mixed it with yeast so the bread would surely grow

After it was done baking, we sliced a piece for dad

Slathered it with butter, said it was the best he ever had

And next came mom, who said honey was more her taste

But after a bite, said too sweet, the rest would go to waste

Dad started choking, and mom rushed to him

We worried she would live, one of us said “grim”

But mother started coughing as dad finally closed his eyes

She looked over to us, a look of utter despise

And while we stood above her, her skin blue in the moonlight

She tried to say something, she tried with all her might

You girls are the devil, we never wanted you

And now that you have killed us, I’ll tell you what is true

Though you look alike in each and every way

One of you is hiding, one of you is afraid

One of you is a leader, the other follows suit

One of you thinks I’m lying, the other has no dispute

I’m glad you found each other, but get ready for the fight

As though I’m sure I am done, there will be one more death tonight.
