Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

Say it three times and things get scary

That’s what the kiddies always said.

Say it in front of a mirror and you’ll be dead.

So I lit a candle in front of the bathroom sink

And I chanted to create a conjurer’s link

Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

One more time should do the trick

But then out went the candle’s wick

Had I been standing way too close?

If it had worked, where was the ghost?

I touched the mirror half expecting a crack

I raised my arm and my reflection waved back

I’m being so silly, really so dumb.

I wiped my eyes and noticed something dark on my thumb.

I turned on the lights and there was red everywhere

I looked up at the mirror and could only stare

Blood was pouring from my nose and my eyes

And then my reflection changed their disguise

Lifting up the fold underneath my chin

The mask came off the face of my once twin

And underneath was the ghastliest smile

And I realized I was also smiling too at this haunted child

She snapped her fingers and my hand snapped too

And then I realized what I guess I always knew.

She’s real all right - inside of us all

Sometimes it just takes a few words while staring at your reflection on the wall.
