1. Overall Storyline

10 years after a palace coup, a long out of favor court official (himself a powerful samurai) finds a single surviving member of the old imperial family and machinates the young man onto the imperial throne, fighting against his own old enemies as well as the enemies of the old imperial clan.  Along the way his back story, and the back stories of his “chance met” companions play out along with the current political struggles.

Restoration of honor thru hard work

Outcast returns and conquers old foes via cunning and force.

Our hero and his followers travel widely while winning friends and influencing people.

Our heroes and their opponents have superpowers

The overall theme of the series is redemption thru struggle; with great loss the cost of great victory.

Our nominal hero goes from being so badly emotionally wounded that he is unable to enjoy normal human relationships , to being one of the leaders of his nation.
