Scott Early liked an update for Mission 51

Overnight, the Mission 51 funding campaign came to an end, and the project is now in “draft” mode. We finished with a very respectable 183 pre-orders, though that was shy of the 250 required for Inkshares to publish. The book will not be published at this time.

I’ll have to say, I am much, much more excited about the whole thing than I am disappointed. When I started, this book was not written. Now it is! - I became aware of Inkshares earlier this year, half-way into the Nerdist Space Opera contest. I had an idea for a book for quite some time, so I decided to jump in late in the contest, learning the Inkshares process as I went along. I basically started from scratch, hammering away madly, and by now have developed a solid story of which I am proud. Along the way, I have met a multitude of awesome people: readers, supporters, fellow authors, artists, and the folks at Inkshares. I am nothing but gratified and encouraged!

The final tally for Mission 51 was 194 followers of the project, of which 128 wonderful people pre-ordered 183 copies of the book. I received 14 high-quality recommendations, was chosen as a “Staff Pick,” and received the support of the GREAT SCI-FI for the 21st CENTURY and BEYOND SYNDICATE. Wow! Thank you!!!

Now that Mission 51 is officially in “draft” mode, all of the readers, who have my everlasting gratitude for your interest and generous support, will get their money back. The project will remain listed on Inkshares, will continue to gather followers, and I will be able to communicate with you through this forum, to keep you updated on the continuing progress of Mission 51.

I will continue to revise, enhance and beautify the book, including the art. It is possible that I will engage in another funding campaign here on Inkshares, but I will not do it until the book is entirely finished, which it nearly is. I will await another suitable contest before that happens. When that moment comes, I will be completely prepared to deliver a top-notch product! I hope you will decide to support it again at that time.

For now, I have entered Mission 51 in the 2016 Launch Pad Manuscript Competition. I’m pretty excited about that! It opens several other opportunities for publication. Please check out the link. I’ll let you know how that turns out.

In any event, like I said before, I can assure you that this book will be published one way or another. I would love to have the backing and services of a formal publishing house like Inkshares, or some other publisher, but I have self-published several books before and I will self-publish Mission 51 if the need be.

So stay tuned for future developments. I will keep you posted. I am not going away!

Again, thank you all so very much for supporting me and Mission 51. I have truly felt the love!

    Peace!

    Ferd  :-)

Scott Early liked an update for Scarlet

        Good morning, rebels!

As the 6th day of the contest opens, I’m feeling pretty good about the plan I have set out for Scarlet. While it may not reach the leaderboards by the end of this week, there are several other chances I can capitalize on. However, the point of this update isn’t about the leaderboards--it’s about the Forgotten Stories. I will be uploading Noctis’ story around late evening--I’m hoping, and it covers his life just before everything fell apart. Whether the chapter will be short or long will depend upon the length I’m willing to expose. There will only be two characters in the chapter--Noctis, and his older sister, Celestina. Over the many drafts and completed chapters I’ve done concerning this book, I’ve always tried making Noctis the dare-devil/heroic guy of the group. Always leaping into danger, pulling off stunts only he could do, and being there to assist Scarlet in her time of need as her most trusted ally. In the chapter, you’ll see a side of Noctis you wouldn’t see in the main storyline. Thanks for reading, and remember...stay rebellious!

          Hey, rebels!

This update was just something that came out of the blue while I was scoping out the other projects/authors in the contest, and I must say, there are a bunch of creative minds out there! Still, this is a contest. In order for Scarlet to get on the leaderboards and maintain that position, there would have to be orders coming in everyday almost--from my understanding. I believe if we reached the leaderboards, it could change the momentum and make people gravitate to Scarlet. That’s why I’ve been advertising, attending meetings, and even emailing old teachers of mine who enjoyed my talent. It’s a tiring process for sure, but how you dedicate yourself from the start until the end matters.

"Work harder than those above you, and you’ll achieve greatness."

My coach told me that, and I took it as a life lesson. It applies to everything! Hahaha, but I will calm down with the inspirational vibes I’m giving off and just say thank you to those who ordered today. I personally thanked them when I had the chance, and their responses is probably why I feel so inspired tonight haha. Once again, thanks to them, but also to those who’s been following and watching over my progress. No matter how long in the contest it takes, let’s reach Top 3! Goodnight, and remember...stay rebellious--let your dreams go wild!

            Hello, rebels!

Forgive me for this late update, but I worked overtime and had to take care of cousins in the evening! So, I apologize, and I’ll make this quick. Chapter One: Green Ocean is now up and ready for your eyes. Please, check it out for me--give it a recommendation and share to bring others in on the project. I will speak about my public speaking tomorrow morning and many other things. Once again, sorry about this and have a good rest or morning if your hours are very different than mine!

              Hello, rebels!

This update is about two hours or so late, but it’s all fine because I’m here to deliver and you are here to witness it. Now, I made a late update around midnight to say that I uploaded Chapter One: Green Ocean, but I also mentioned the event I attended yesterday, and I must say...it went really well. To explain the event better--it was a show-and-tell type of of event where kids to young adults got on stage and present their talent/performance. It was held in a local park in my city where people usually hold events at. The crowd nearly overwhelmed me haha! I have experience with speaking in front of a good sized crowd because I’ve done speeches and my senior project featured me speaking on camera about the news circulating around my alma mater (I’m feeling old now, but it’s only been a few months! xD). So, I spoke on stage and explained my story about why I write, my books, and encouraging yourself to pursue what you love. Afterwards, I walked around and handed out cards to adults and those around my age while explaining how to contact me, the requirements for getting my book published, and what college I would be enrolling into. I had a great time and it made me much more confident in my abilities as a young individual. I may not have been taught by amazing professors, or taken courses to hone my writing, but I want to take advantage early to build experience. One of the things that matter to me is your passion to continue despite being overlooked. However, I’m sure people understand that already haha!

As the 5th day of the contest opens up, I realize that there’s a long road to the end. I want to pace myself with these other chapters, for I don’t want to expose everything in my arsenal in just one week. I will not be releasing another chapter of the main storyline until the week is up and until I at least get over 10 orders. Notice how I said "main storyline", yeah? Well, strangely enough, I was thinking about different tactics I could use to keep people invested even if chapters aren’t coming in, and I thought about doing something I call the Forgotten Stories.  These "stories" are simply telling the background of characters in the book--such as Noctis, Eldo, Aria, Balthier, or characters in the near future. Each member will have their own separate story that takes place before the world changed around them, and I may even consider showing how they lived during the apocalypse years before Tempest started. The actual events won’t be so vivid in the actual story, but merely explained and such instead of having a dedicated chapter to it, so think of this as extra chapters to the story for those who take interest in the characters. I’m currently working on Noctis, so I’d say expect it tomorrow.

Well, thank you for reading today, and remember...stay rebellious! (Our motto xD) Reach out for what you want no matter the challenges.

              From yours truly, A.J.III.
