ELECTRIFYING

A muscular, horned, pale hybrid with long brown hair jumped from the top of the storage unit. Something was familiar about the way that the hybrid landed.

Then it hit me. “That’s Jack!” I shouted, “That hybrid is Jack Findle!”

Steve responded, “Are you positive?”

Broadie agreed, “There’s no denying it! It’s those green eyes and that tattoo on his neck!”

Then he spoke, “I’m not Jack anymore!” Jack took a deep breath and blew out a thick cloud of what appeared to be fog or smoke. Everything that the fog touched began to freeze.

Broadie said, “Not this time! SHŌKAN!” Then Broadie’s entire body almost instantly grew over fifteen feet tall. Broadie jumped over the frost cloud and slapped his giant hand on Jack pinning him to the ground. “Gotcha!” Broadie said arrogantly.

The men that loaded the storage unit began to run away.

In that instant, we heard a voice laughing. The next thing we knew, there was another hybrid hovering over Broadie in mid air. The hybrid was a yellowish green color, with short spikes on his head: it had electricity exerting from its entire body.

I shouted, “Broadie look out!” But it was too late. When Broadie looked up, the hybrid struck him sending volts of electricity throughout his body.

The water and molecules that was holding Broadie’s giant body together splashed to the ground. Jack, who was pinned down by Broadie, was also shocked unconscious.

The hybrid continued laughing. Steve pulled out his blade and tried to attack the Hybrid, but the hybrid just grabbed Steve’s blade with his bare hands and sent an electrical current through the blade electrocuting Steve.

I began to approach with caution, especially after I noticed that neither Broadie, Jack, nor Steve were moving.

Lucius said, “I’d be careful if I were you.”

I pulled out my sword, but instead of attacking the hybrid, I sliced one of the trees a couple of times. Lucius shouted, “What are you doing? That tree didn’t hurt anybody! Does his life mean nothing?”

I put my sword back in its sheath, and when the hybrid attacked me I used the small tree as my weapon.

Lucius sat down with his legs folded and began talking to another tree, “I get it now. If he had used his sword, the hybrid would have just electrocuted him. But because electricity does not travel through wood so easily, he’s able to fend off the hybrid with that tree. Although that was smart, I don’t think it’ll be enough. So, what do you think?” Lucius asked, putting his ear to the tree while watching the fight.

It seemed that the longer I fought the hybrid, the faster it became. So I decided to try and take out the hybrid in one quick move, even if it meant that I had to get electrocuted in the process.

In order to do that, I needed the hybrid to chase me, so I ran as if I were afraid for my life. I played my role well; I even screamed. He chased me just as I had anticipated.

Just as he was about to grab me I jumped and kicked off the shuttle as high as I could. While in mid air I turned to face the hybrid while reaching for my sword.

Lucius continued talking to the tree. “I really thought he was going to run away, but now I see what he’s doing. He’s leading the hybrid to that puddle of water over there where his friend got electrocuted. He better be careful where he lands because he may end up electrocuting his friend again. Well . . . that’s if his plan works.”

The hybrid jumped in the air to grab me. While in the air I pulled out my blade and swung it at the hybrid. And as I expected, it grabbed my blade and exerted electricity in attempt to shock me, but his electricity couldn’t shock me while in mid air. So, I hit him in the face several times with the tree using my other hand.

When we both were about to hit the ground, I braced myself because I knew that both of us were about to be electrocuted.

The hybrid landed in the water first and when he did, I let go of my sword, but that didn’t matter because I was about to land in the same puddle of water. As soon as we both hit the water, the Hybrid’s electric current hit us.

We both screamed, and were thrown out of the water. To my surprise, I was still conscious. My body began shaking involuntarily, but I managed to pull myself up.

The hybrid looked at me and shouted, “How did you do that? Why aren’t you fried like the others?”

Lucius interrupted, “Because in order for you to be fried by electricity there must be resistance for your electrical current and while you guys were in mid air, the electricity didn’t have any resistance. I have no idea why he isn’t fried after getting caught in it’s current once you guys landed. There was plenty of resistance on the ground. To be blunt, Kazai should probably be dead right now. I’m shocked right now… get it, SHOCKED!”

As Lucius giggled, I spoke up, “It-It definitely hurt me… but I honestly didn’t think that I would make it out of that.”

Lucius responded, “But yet, you did anyway. I assume that you decided to risk your life for the sake of the Umi Tribe. Am I correct?”

I nodded.

“Very commendable, you have my respect,” Lucius added.

Until that moment, I didn’t even know that I wanted the respect of that weirdo.

“But I don’t get it? How could I get electrocuted by my own attack?” The hybrid asked.

“Do you see that wet stuff over there?” Lucius said. “It’s called water. It can be used as an electrical current enhancer even for your own electricity.”

The hybrid yelled, “But I can normally handle my own fire power even in water! What did you do to me?”

Then I spoke up, “It’s the salt water.” The hybrid looked confused. Then I stood straight. “I know that in order for shōkans like Broadie to use his technique he has to summon water from the ocean, or salt water in this case. With that being said, I know that salt water can enhance how electricity travels.”

The hybrid snarled at me and tried to run toward me but passed out before he could reach me.

Lucius said, “Good job, but aren’t you forgetting something.”

I remembered what Dr. Kyro said, “Jack Findle escaped. Two hybrids came and set him free.”

Before I could even finish processing the thought, a shadow covered my entire body.

Lucius cried, “Look out!” But before I could turn around I was sent flying into a shuttle.
