Hi Mason! Glad it caught your interest. No, I’m not active on Inkshares anymore. If you’re interested, I’ve self-published the book, and it’s cheap on your favorite online retailer.
Thanks again,
Eric

What an interesting read!  I love the contrast between the first and second chapters.  Sorry to hear that you were unable to meet pre-order goals.  Are you still active on Inkshares?

Hello all!

The campaign to fund an Inkshares publication of Beneath White Clouds ends tonight and it looks like... well, it looks like I’m better at writing fiction than managing a crowdfunding campaign. I’m OK with that :-)

Those of you who pre-ordered (gods among men) should look out for an e-mail from me on December 6th.

I’ve always been a proponent of the DIY approach. I am self-publishing Beneath White Clouds. I hired and editor to help me clean the thing up (because there are some things you can’t do yourself) and put together the final version of the book over the past few weeks.

Polling of my cover art concept drafts showed the original cover as a clear favorite, so I leveled-up my GIMP skills and put together a final version:

The book should be available everywhere on December 6th, 2016. It might be rude to name other booksellers and competing publishing services on this Inkshares platform, so I’ll use superhero references:

If you want a paperback, or have an e-reader which requires .mobi files, you can find it at the retailer whose name sounds like Wonder Woman should be in charge.

If you want a different kind of e-reader file (.epub, .pdf, etc.), these are supplied by the indie publisher that sounds like the Hulk’s preferred poetic style. Those guys will send the .epub version out to all the other e-book shops who aren’t run by Wonder Woman. If it’s not there when you go looking for it, it’ll be there soon.

Thanks for your support, and good luck on your campaigns!

Big news!

Beneath White Clouds has been finished for some time. Finished as in beginning-middle-end, but there is always room for improvement. To that end, I have acquired the services of an editor. I won’t say who, because we have not yet had the conversation as to whether she prefers to be behind-the-scenes or not, but we’ve worked together before and this lady’s got chops.

Why an editor? Know how it takes a village to raise a child? Same thing with books. Don’t care how bomb of an author you think you are, you need someone impartial to rake your work over the coals before you let it loose. Whether I hit my funding goal on Inkshares or self-publish this novel, I want it to be good and shiny for all of you.

I love this story. I wanted to build a tale that wears a fun disguise, invites you in for a good time and suckerpunches you with the horror and the heavy. That’s the impact I’m going for, and G is going to help me make sure that’s the punch this story delivers.

I still need your help - don’t hold back on those pre-orders. Bring your friends in with you. Tell your co-workers, your tabletop game-night group, your yoga buddies, the lady working at your favorite comic shop.  There are lots of sci-fi fans out there. I only need 250 of them. How many do you know?

NAME THAT HERO!

It’s contest time, fans and friends. Time to put your name up in lights!

But first, a little housework.

Now onto the juicy story! I’m going to re-name George after one of you! Yep, there are two protagonists in this tale, and one of you gets to be him/her. I can’t take this to the presses with the guy named George. If you can’t guess why, you’re too young. Let’s just say that the name “George” is just a little too close to the mark. So I’m going to rename him after one of you.*

How?

Anyone to place a super-reader order (3+copies ordered) by Sunday, Oct 2nd (by midnight pacific time), will have their names put into a randomization engine (which may or may not be a hat). One of the lucky ones will be selected to have George re—named after them.

Now you might wonder, “What if the winner’s name is totally feminine, like Samantha or Kisha or something?”

Well, then, it’ll be time for a social experiment of sorts. George is written as a male. If I end up with a feminine name for him, then he’ll go "under the knife", so to speak.

I’ll change all pronouns and references to match his new gender, and might have to adapt a few gags, but otherwise I’ll leave his/her character, dialogue, behavior all the same.

That’ll be interesting to see, won’t it? Get those orders in - all supporters will be acknowledged in the book, but only one of you will get to be this guy:

I mean, srsly, who wouldn’t want to be that guy? Looks like one happenin’ dude right there. Guy’s got it going on.

*:  If you win, and your name happens to be George, we’ll figure something out. Re-name George after your Mom or Goldfish or something.

Ask an Author!

Or tell an author.
Really, sometimes we need a good talking-to... but that’s besides the point!

There’s a Facebook group for "Beneath White Clouds," and I’d like for you to join it. I’d like for you to invite your friends to the group. I want you to join in on the discussion. Ask me what you want to know. Does the story remind you of something? Post it to the group! See a post you like? chime in and share it out. I’m trying to keep info, updates and interaction moving at a steady pace, but I appreciate any feedback you could give me as to how you think I should push this effort ahead.

Come closer, my friends. Join the Beneath White Clouds Party.

That sounded creepy, didn’t it?

Polls are open!

As we get into election season, I’d like to offer a complete distraction!

A monkey on a unicycle playing a bagpipe with his... Wait, no, not that. That’s for later.

No, what I offer you is a chance to help determine the face of “Beneath White Clouds.”

But first, a little business:

We start out week 3 with 22 orders - almost 10% of the way to Quill publication. WooHoo! That’s great, but we’ve got work to do yet! Put your name on a copy, and please help spread the word.

Now for the fun stuff. When working on cover art for this book, I couldn’t stop myself at 1. I had to go an make 4 conceptual drafts for the face of Beneath White Clouds.

So, these are drafts, not finalized versions. Now I need your help to figure out which concept I should develop into a final version.

You get to vote! Follow this link to pick your favorite!

Which image grabs you? Which one looks the most like a book you’d want to pick up? Take your pick, then share the poll with your friends. Vote early, vote often, let your voice determine the face  of my next book.

Feel free to leave feedback on how you think the art could be improved in the comments at the end of the poll or on Inkshares.

Happy voting!

New chapters uploaded for your literary pleasuring!

Chapter 3 - The Plunge. Wherein George experiences significant acceleration. Dog vs Moob.

Chapter 4 - Hero. Wherein Modun shakes a strange apple from a very tall tree.

What? His name is Cuddles. So, anyway, I’ve put together a--

Yes, yes, he is a total shmooby-face. I know.

Ok, It’s clear the kitty is giving you focus problems, so I’ll make this quick; If BWC gets 50 orders, I’ll release a blooper reel full of me totally failing at talking about the book. There. The end.
...
Ok, ok. the blooper reel and another picture of Cuddles. Fine.
