Chapter Seven - Moving In

After about another month had passed Jake strongly suggested that they move in together.  Gloria agreed after much discussion.  Soon, Jake helped her pack up her stuff and move into his apartment.  He could not be happier.  The weeks passed by and both Jake and Gloria were relishing their relationship.  They spent their days in bliss and became accustomed to a routine.  He went to work and she went to class and kept one of her jobs.  They would meet up during breaks and at the end of their day, he would collect her and go home.

Jake had been right.  Now Gloria hardly felt any pain at all during sex and she began to really enjoy it.  She was relishing in it all.  She could not remember being so happy in her life.  This whole time with Jake almost seemed like a dream come true.  She couldn’t believe how happy she was.

The months continued to pass and Gloria began to feel sick.  She thought she had caught a bug so she went to the doctor to get checked out.

“I’m pregnant,” Gloria repeated.

“Yes, your urine test came back positive.  We’ll have to take some blood work to confirm but yes, you are indeed pregnant and from the information you gave me about your last menstrual cycle, I’d say you’re about 8 weeks along,” the doc said.

Gloria couldn’t believe it.  She hadn’t thought of getting pregnant.  They hadn’t used protection because Gloria didn’t think she needed to worry about getting pregnant so fast and Jake had left it up to her.  Gloria had decided against taking the pill because of the side effects it caused her and she didn’t want to deal with condoms.  Jake had made it clear that he would welcome a baby no matter what.    She was excited but scared at the same time.  She and Jake hadn’t been together that long.  Would he still welcome a baby?

“You’ll need to make an appointment for an ultrasound.  My nurse can help you with that,” the doc said as she led Gloria to the reception area.  “Take care of yourself and follow my recommendations.  I’ll see you next time.”

Gloria was in a daze.

“How does the 11th at 10 am sound?” The nurse asked.

Gloria just nodded.

“Would you like to receive a reminder call the day before?”

Again, Gloria nodded.

“What number can we reach you at?”  The nurse asked.

Gloria gave Jake’s cell because she had cracked hers and was waiting for a replacement.

“Great. You’re all set,” the nurse said.

Gloria walked out of the doctor’s office in a daze.  She sat down on a nearby bench outside.  She was thinking about how she was going to tell Jake they were having a baby.

She wasn’t feeling well.  So she decided to skip the rest of her classes and go home.  When she got there she noticed a car had parked in front of the apartment.  She thought nothing of it until she opened the door and went inside.

“So you’re the little whore who’s sleeping with my husband,” a loud voice said.

Gloria was stunned.  She saw a very fancy dressed lady standing in the living room.  Who was this lady and why was she in her apartment?  How had she gotten inside and what husband was she referring to?

The lady walked up and got in Gloria’s face.  “Well?” she said expecting an answer.

“I, I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Gloria stammered.  “Who are you and how did you get into my apartment?” Gloria asked bewildered.

“My name is Giselle Wilder.  I’m Jake’s wife,” Giselle said matter of fact.  “Didn’t Jake tell you?”

Gloria plopped down on the couch. “What?” she cried.  “Wife?  You must be mistaken.  You must have the wrong place.”

“He didn’t tell you, did he?” Giselle sneered.  She relished at the look of shock on Gloria’s face.  “Jake is married to me.  We’re married!  Have been married for two years! Giselle shouted.

Gloria couldn’t believe what she was hearing.  She turned deathly pale and felt like her insides were coming out.  Everything around her started to blur and spin.

“If you’re his wife, where have you been all this time?” Gloria asked incredulously.

Giselle began to pace.  “We were separated for a while but we’re working things out.  We’re getting back together.”  She stopped walking.  “Oh, I see,” Giselle said feigning compassion.  “You actually thought he loved you.  Oh, you poor child,” Giselle said touching her breast.

Gloria couldn’t believe what she was hearing.  It couldn’t be true.  How could Jake do this to her?  Her head was spinning.  Where was her phone?  Then she remembered she didn’t have one at the moment and Jake never bothered with a landline.  She had to talk to Jake.  Surely, there was an explanation for this?  Maybe this lady was a nut and was making the whole thing up?  Maybe she had escaped from a mental asylum or something.  She had to talk to Jake right away, Gloria thought.
