Since kicking off my crowdfunding campaign for Where the Sun Sets I’ve learned that I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve also learned that I’m not alone. In fact, there are countless other clueless authors who are just like me!

So I’m putting together a video series -a free online resource-  called Coming Clean on Crowdfunding to help us all be a little less clueless, and a little more likely to succeed in making our dreams a reality.

Coming Clean on Crowdfunding is a series of short video interviews (3-5 min. long), where each video showcases a single author who has chosen to crowdfund their literary darling into existence.

For our first interview we’ll be hearing from the lovely Janna Grace, author of The Talkers are Talking.  Tune in to hear Janna tell us about her experience participating in an Inkshares contest, what she did wrong with her campaign, what she did right, and more.

Throughout the series we’ll be hearing from authors at all different stages in their campaign, from everywhere around the world. Should be very cool!

I’ll be posting them on YouTube HERE.

The first episode will be available later this evening/first thing in the morning. I’ll update the thread so you know when to take a peek.

If you like what you see and want to see more episodes from different authors, please subscribe! Post your comments or questions to the channel or to this thread, and please highlight the types of questions you’d like to see answered. If you have an experience you’d like to share in an episode, please reach out to me & we’ll set up a time to chat!

I hope you find these interviews as fun and insightful as I do!

Donna

It is December and time for syndicates to start looking for books to back! If you aren’t aware of the many syndicates on Inkshares, take some time to look at them -here-

Joining a syndicate is a great way to back a book every month. We can recommend syndicate membership to our Readers as well.

Donna Litt liked the forum thread, Pre-Order Swapping

            Hello Inkshares Community,

Elena here, your friendly neighborhood customer service representative, with a PSA about Pre-Order Swapping. In the past few weeks, we’ve received many notices of these types of actions. We want to address this now before it becomes a more widespread issue.

The goal for each and every one of the authors on Inkshares is not just for you to reach your funding goal, but for you to be a success on the market after publication. Books with broad reader interest sell better in places like independent bookstores, B&N, Amazon, etc.

This means that the whole, “if you pre-order my book I will pre-orders yours” trend isn’t allowed, nor is it a sustainable method of crowdfunding. It doesn’t promote broad reader interest. Relying solely on this method would require you, as an author pre-ordering other authors’ projects, to spend $2500 just to reach the Quill goal, which isn’t feasible for most people, and goes against the democratic nature of the crowdfunding model.

So here are our thoughts: if you have a genuine interest in someone else’s writing, you’ve read their drafts and you want to support them, that’s fantastic! If you make a deal with someone to swap pre-orders not on the basis of genuine interest in their work but solely to receive their pre-order, we cannot condone it. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to comment or email me directly at hello(at)Inkshares.com. I am always happy to help.

Additionally, please see our Terms of Service for clarification.

Thank you and keep writing the good write!

            Elena
