Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for The Last Faoii

Orders, Faoii! Listen up!

I am incredibly honored and humbled by the slew of private couriers bringing me letters in the last day. So many of you have offered me congratulations and praise for this newest milestone of ours. Quill is no small feat, and I am proud of all of us. However, I was surprised by how many of you said "Congratulations! Now maybe you can get some sleep."

Does this fight look like it’s over to you, Faoii? Get back in line.

No. We are still 2 weeks away from the end of the Geek and Sundry Contest. We gathered this army so that we could fight to the top of that hill and we will still do it. Two weeks to overtake 3 people. We overtook 300 in less than that. How dare we give up now?

We need more soldiers. Ask people. Directly. Do not be afraid of talking to them. Do not be ashamed for seeking aide. That hill cannot be taken without more blades on the field-- and we cannot get those warriors without seeking them out. Yes, the book will definitely appear appear on Amazon in the future-- but I can’t sign copies of books purchased after the fact. If your friends want a signed copy of The Last Faoii they MUST join our battle. Remind them that waiting won’t give them the chance to name one of 3 characters or a free edit from an English teacher and soon-to-be-published author. Remind them that this world is worthy of leading in that contest.

Remind them that we are faoii.

Two weeks. I will see you at the top of that hill.

    Oh, wow.  That’s actually pretty neat.  Your profile bio led me to believe it might be the names of a pair of collaborators.  The actual story is much more interesting.

      Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Leaf Falling

      Well, in my excitement to share the news that Leaf Falling is in 13th place, I hit that 1 an extra time...

      The book is just 3 slots out of the top ten, not more than a hundred. It’s very, very close. You can make the difference oh, so easily.

      Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the support!

        Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for APEX

        Dearest Readers,

        We’ve managed to pull into third place! It’s a precariously small lead of only 5 pre-orders, so our work is far from done, but thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping me achieve this success. I must check the scores five times a day (possibly more) to see how I’m doing in the rankings. As we’ve risen in sales, so have my competitors. I know they’re just as anxious to rank in the top three as I am, so I’m not surprised.

        After my graduation ceremony at Stanford, where I read an excerpt of my novel (very fun), I went to a workshop on getting published and how to market one’s work. I’ve taken that input to heart and will be trying a few things over the next week to see if I can gain some distance on my 4th and 5th place competitors. If I find any strategies that work, I’ll be sure and share them with you all.

        Individual notes of gratitude are coming shortly. I just wanted to let you all know that we’re getting there! Only two weeks left to keep pushing for a third place finish and a guaranteed publication of APEX!

        Cheers, Debbie

          Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Where the Sun Sets

          Dear readers & supporters:

          Thanks to you, I’m almost at 30% of my Quill goal!!!! *insanely happy dance*

          THANK YOU.

          You can learn more about the story here: https://youtu.be/raE1OpHenZs

          In the video I also talk about a bit about why I’m crowdfunding the publication of my first manuscript, and that is to help empower more people to become creators, while raising awareness & funds for organizations that believe the best innovation comes from the arts and sciences coming together.

          In other words, my goal with this publication is to support local creators who have an appreciation of what the arts AND sciences have to offer!`

          The way I can do this right now is by using my own creation (Where the Sun Sets) as an opportunity- to talk about my experience as a creator, and by using the funds generated to support partner local organizations.

          Over the coming weeks you can expect to learn more about:
          - The incredible organizations I’m partnering with & Why;
          - How our (mine and yours) collective efforts are supporting each one;
          - How these organizations will be supported in perpetuity (or at least, as long as book sales are a thing) by our efforts;
          - And how you can get involved!

          For all my design friends: If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing your work (your own illustrations or designs) on the cover of a published book, stay tuned for BOOK COVER CONTEST DETAILS!!!

          Please stay tuned for updates

          Thank you for reading & as always, I welcome your feedback and comments.

          - Donna

            @Luke Fellner  I believe the rule is that a book can’t have more than two authors, so @Lena (Helena and Malena) are perfectly within the rights to be where they are in the contest :)

            @Joseph Keeler
            Regarding paying someone else to promote your book... I’d say consider it carefully. There are a lot of these accounts out there, who will tweet about your book to tens of thousands of people - but they also tweet about dozens of other books each day. You have to weigh up how much you’re going to spend versus how many people are actually going to look at and ultimately buy your book in return for you paying for this extra promotion.

            Personally, it’s something I tried once and wouldn’t try again. It didn’t cost a lot, but it also didn’t lead to any tangible benefits for me. I have had much more success promoting Witherfist myself, or by having friends and family share details of the book / the contest.
