Robert Batten liked an update for Rock of Ages

Happy November!

I’m on to the next draft of Rock of Ages, and it’s more big changes, including a switch from first to third person. This will help me add more descriptive detail without worrying if it’s detail my narrator would have noticed or not.

I’ve sent a couple versions of the prologue back and forth with the editor, and it’s improving each time. When he’s happy with it, I’ll move on to the rest of the book. It’s important with this draft that I slooooow down and work carefully, so don’t expect the "I wrote a million words in three weeks" updates with this one. Instead, you can look forward to quality, quality writing that goes deep. I’ve posted the current version of the prologue for you all to read! I hope you like it.

Thank you so much for your support as I create what I hope will be something really magical.

Robert Batten liked an update for A Gentleman’s Murder

Two weeks from today is Remembrance Day; Veterans Day in the US; or Armistice Day as it was called originally. This year, it marks the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended the fighting in the First World War. When we pin the poppy to our lapel this year, remember that it’s not just about thanking our veterans, but about acknowledging the ongoing cost to them. The First World War drew our attention to the phenomenon of PTSD; and while a lot has changed since then, PTSD remains a reality for many.

Among the Inkshares books to consider this season: "Blasted by Adversity" and "The Battle Within". The first is a biography; the second, a fictionalised thriller. Already published and available, both books deal with the trials of the aftermath, and would be well worth the read.

Don’t forget that Cat’s Paw still needs your support. It appears that the deadline has been moved to the 14th of December, giving us a bit more breathing room; let’s not waste it. Be sure to check that your order really has gone through. Remember, if I haven’t thanked you by email or by direct message or by some other form of communication, that probably means I haven’t received news of your order -- which in turn means that Something Is Wrong.

Robert Batten liked an update for Grimalkin

After much agonizing, Grimalkin is now live in the 2018 Inkshares Horror Contest. A big thank you to anyone who has already supported my novel in progress (part of a planned trilogy.) I love these characters, including many you haven’t met yet and some you don’t yet know as well as you hopefully will someday, and I’m excited about the story. I hope the feeling’s mutual. If so, please hope me share these characters and their stories with the world. Wow, that’s really sappy. There’s also more death and mayhem in store, too!

Robert Batten liked an update for The Living God

        Hey guys!

The Living God finished its 3rd round of dev edits a few weeks ago. I’m waiting to hear about next steps, I suspect it will go back through a copy edit. I’m also anxiously awaiting the new cover! I haven’t seen or heard anything yet.

In the meantime, while you await the release of the book in March 2019, I’m posting chapters of a book I started working on a while back before getting The Living God published took up a majority of my free time. It was my NaNoWriMo project for 2014! I dusted it off and I’m polishing it up for you. Check it out! Be sure to follow to get updates on new chapters.

        The Seven Kings of Purgatory

Nina learned two things when she woke in Purgatory: Death was dead and she’d been there many times before.

With no one to usher the dead to their proper resting place, Nina has been trapped in a cycle of death and rebirth. Having burned through her allotted reincarnations, she must find a way to right the natural course of Purgatory, or risk fading out of existence forever.

Robert Batten liked an update for Shadow King

          October 17, 2018

          Good morning, everyone!

I meant to send an update yesterday but life happened so I’m a day late on this one. It is officially two weeks since Shadow King launched, so I wanted to just give a quick update on how things are going.

          Book Reviews
A few reviews have started to come in on Goodreads and Amazon. The majority are 4 and 5 star, so that’s outstanding. However, I’d like to get a lot more! When you finish reading Shadow King, please consider leaving a review on one of the sites. It only takes a few minutes of your time and they’re really important for helping a book pick up momentum!

          Events
My first author event at Tatnuck Booksellers went well. Small group but there were a TON of questions in the q/a part, and I really enjoyed that. My next author event is October 24 (next week) at Belmont Books in Belmont, MA. Event starts at 7:00 pm.

I’ll also be attending Arisia in Boston in January. More details to come on that!

          Press & Interviews
I was interviewed by WBZ AM Radio in Boston for their "Women’s Watch" segment. The interview was taped and will be aired/posted in the upcoming weeks. I will share a link as soon as it is available.

          Upcoming interviews include:

          • November 17: interviewed on the Golden State Media Concepts podcast
          • November  28: interviewed for "Be My Guest," a local podcast/local cable news show

Once links to those or specific times are available, I’ll be sure to share that with everyone!

          Future Work
I’m happy to say that progress on the ESCAPE Anthology (which will contain one of my short stories) is going well. The contributing authors are all in the process of reviewing the content, and I’m very excited to be included in this group of excellent writers. When production is finalized, I’ll be sure to let you know when the pub date is!

The Devil Inside is still in the pre-production queue with Inkshares. I am hoping that it will reach the editor in Spring 2019, but that will depend on how quickly the books ahead of it progress.

And, I am planning to kick off work on a new manuscript -- a follow-up to Shadow King -- during November.

That about covers the highlights for now. I’ll send another update when there is news to share!

          Best,
          Susan
