Something has gone terribly wrong.
But I’m not afraid of the consequences. I’ve done it myself, and I simply cannot help it. I’ve changed our course slightly. There is somewhere I need to visit. So far the Cosmic Empire hasn’t caught wind of my plan, however, I believe it’s only a matter of time before the Clubhouse takes notice with their endless network of ears flowing through the universe.
I’m feeling overwhelmingly nostalgic. It started with some dreams I’ve been having. Images of giant mountains of clouds would grow inside my empty room - strange clouds that I could climb on and explore endlessly. I’ve been through every hall and room in this ship countless times, yet these mountains seemed to wind on forever. When I stumbled on a new valley full of rich vegetation the earth below me would unfold like some ancient pop-up book of old - pockets within pockets of worlds. And I knew this was where I came from. I was having dreams of my home. The place where I was born.
At the weekly CCM review I scored lower than ever. I was also accused of sleepwalking. The CCM board all agreed to lower my connection as much as possible until I could benefit the CCM drive once again. Still, I know the crew feels it. They give me looks as I pass them in the halls. I catch them staring out the windows in the same way I look longingly for that little spot in space.
That’s why I’m going to pay it a visit.
“What’s wrong?” the woman in the ship seemed to ask me one night. “You’ve changed our direction.”
When in fact she’s not saying anything.
I told her. [Pause] [Throat clearing]
“When I was still very young my home planet crumpled and was consumed by a black hole. I entered the Time Egg to watch the whole thing play out in a comfortable speed. My parents said it would help me cope with the loss and give me the realization that all things in this great Cosmic Empire are fleeting like bubbles in a soda pop and that only the Cosmic Empire remains eternal. I watched my home get consumed countless times from the Time Egg until finally I felt I was ready to deal with it and stop being a little baby.”
“Is that why we’re headed back there?” I think I heard her say.
And please don’t think I’m insane. “But yes. That is why I’ve directed our ship towards a black hole. N56-NAT, the “Big Pillow”, to be exact.”
