I wanted to send one quick update out before the end of the year. First, I’d like to wish each and every one of you a very happy holiday, and a wonderful, safe and happy New Year! After tonight the days start getting longer again! In my last update, I mentioned that I turned the updated, post-development-edit "Shadow King" manuscript back in to Inkshares. I don’t have a kick-off date yet but did hear a whisper of February. Now, that’s not set in stone, so I’m trying to keep my expectations grounded. As soon as I know something about a kick-off, I’ll be sure to let all of you know.
Also, my funding campaign for "The Devil You Don’t" is starting to wind down (December 31 is the last day for pre-orders), and many of you have thrown your support behind that effort as well -- thank you for that! It definitely gets you on Santa’s Nice List!I’m really hopeful we’ll make the goal... after taking into consideration several orders that are pending but haven’t been put in the system yet, realistically I only need about 10 orders to get Devil over the finish line. If you haven’t checked it out yet, please visit "The Devil You Don’t" Inkshares page!Have a happy, happy, merry, merry!
All the best,Susan
Hello, Shadow King readers!Hope your December is going well. I wanted to send you all a quick update to let you know that the development edit is done, and I’ve turned the manuscript back in to Inkshares! I’m very, very happy with how it has turned out and can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on a copy.I’m hoping to get an ETA on when my project will kick-off soon, but I don’t have a hard and fast date yet. But as soon as I do, I’ll be sure to share the good news and any kind of timeline. In the meantime, I’m working on two other things:First, my funding campaign for "The Devil You Don’t" will close at the end of this month, and I’m pretty darn close to reaching Quill funding again. Several syndicates have endorsed the book, so if you haven’t checked it out, please take a look. I need just under 40 pre-orders before 12/31/17 to make the threshold--please consider sharing info about Devil with your fellow readers (or order a copy for yourself, I’m confident you’ll enjoy it!)
Second, yes, I have started dabbling on Shadow King 2 (clearly a working title right now). I’m planning to get started on this in earnest over the next few weeks.Hope you all have a wonderful holiday and New Year, and I’ll update again soon. All the best,Susan
11/12/17Hello!Sorry for the recent radio silence on "Shadow King." For much of the fall, I was engrossed in the new Launchpad competition and "Shadow King" was (im)patiently waiting in the queue for Inkshares’ editor.I decided to invest in a development edit for "Shadow King." And I’m so glad I did. I just got my edits back, and I’m thrilled with what this editing team had to say. They had a lot of very good things to say about the manuscript, and also pointed out several areas where I have an opportunity to expand scenes and make the story even more robust than it already is.I am about 2/3 of the way through these updates and have a goal of having the updated manuscript to Inkshares by the start of December (although Thanksgiving may alter that by a day or two).
I’ll send another update when there’s some more news to share. In the meantime, have an awesome fall! Best,Susan
Good morning!I know you’re all eager to get your hands on “Shadow King” (I had two people at my office yesterday ask when they were getting their copies!). "Shadow King" continues to wait in the Inksahres queue for the editor, along with several other books. As soon as I have news about release dates, I’ll let you know right away.In other news... as you know from previous updates I did go ahead and enter another manuscript into the 2017 Launchpad Manuscript Competition (because I’m crazy like that).I found out Tuesday that “The Devil You Don’t” has made the first cut and been named to the Top 75 list! So, what does this mean? It means I still have a long way to go to get from Top 75 to (hopefully) Top 10 and beyond.I can, however, start to crowdfund for the Inkshares portion of Launchpad 2017 on August 28.Many of you showed a tremendous amount of generosity and support last year for “Shadow King” and it wouldn’t be waiting for the editor now without each and every one of you.I am, however, painfully aware that asking for your support for a second book when the first doesn’t even have a release date yet is a BIG ASK. But I’m going to ask anyway, and I hope that you’ll all be as enthusiastic about “Devil You Don’t” as you are about “Shadow King.”I’ll be sending another update next week with details about when I’ll be opening the new manuscript for funding, key dates, and a list of raffle-type giveaways that I have planned for different pre-order milestones. In the meantime, you can see a synopsis of “Devil” on my Inkshares page (preview chapters coming soon!): www.inkshares.com/books/the-devil-you-don-tWe made it to 5th last year -- and I know getting into the Top Three is totally achievable this year!
July 24, 2017Good morning, everyone. Sending out a brief update on Shadow King to keep all of you informed on what the current scoop is:Shadow KingI’m still in the queue for the editor. After speaking with Angela at Inkshares, she let me know that they will try to kick-off my project as soon as possible, however, there are close to 50 books in the Quill forecast and they are a small team. They try to honor submissions on a first-come, first-served basis but some other considerations factor in (I’m hoping to find out a little more about those factors). They’re currently working on three Quill books with Reedsy but will only kick-off new projects when they are confident they can be managed without a sacrifice to quality. I’ll keep everyone posted as I learn more--thank you as always for sticking with me through all of this!Coming soon: Pre-order a copy of Shadow King and enter to win a signed copy of Darkstar Rising.Earlier in my writing career, I self-published a fantasy novel called Darkstar Rising. You can read more about it on my website: www.susankhamilton.com. If you have not pre-ordered Shadow King yet, you could win a signed copy of Darkstar--stay tuned for details coming in August. Please follow The Devil You Don’t on InksharesEntries are now closed for the 2017 Launchpad Competition, and in the coming weeks, I’ll find out if lightning can strike twice for me. Devil has its own Inkshares page now: www.inkshares.com/books/the-devil-you-don-t. I’m very excited about this new story and would love to keep you updated on it as well.Thank you! Thanks again to all of Shadow King’s supporters; your enthusiasm means the world to me. I’ll send another update in August. Have a great week!Best,SusanPS. Hopefully, those links are active above--when I update from this particular computer I often have trouble with links looking live as I write, but then not working after I send. Fingers crossed!

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all well! Time for another update on things going on in the Shadow King world and beyond.
April 18, 2017
Hello, everyone! Just a quick update on a few things going on.
First, I’m happy to share that I am currently the "featured blogger" on John Robin’s "Epic Fantasy Writer" blog. Check out my post on lessons I’ve learned about world-building...
I’ve also set up my GoodReads Author Page. Right now it only features "Darkstar Rising," the first novel I published a few years back through Xlibris. "Shadow King" will be joining it as soon as it is ready.
And speaking of... "Shadow King" is still in the queue waiting for the project to kick-off, and once it does, I’ll be sure to let you all know right away. Sales are holding at 291 right now, and I’d definitely like to push past that 300 mark and beyond (and my birthday was earlier this month, so breaking that barrier would be a pretty great be-lated b-day gift!!).
And last but not least, I’ve given my own web site a complete overhaul, so you can check that out here: www.susankhamilton.com. I still need to make a few small adjustments (like figure out how to make it look the way I want on mobile devices). Like most web sites, it is a work in progress.
That’s all for now; I’ll send more news when it is available!

I know this is a quick update right on the heels of my last one, but I’m excited to share the new "Shadow King" cover with everyone. Thank you to the wonderful Charlene Maguire of ShapeShifter studios for the wonderful work.
I also noticed today that Inkshares has a new badge on the Shadow King page that shows we are the #3 best selling dark fantasy title on their site.
I’d love to see that move up to a higher ranking, so if you haven’t ordered yet, this would be a great time!
Have a great rest of the week and weekend, and I’ll send another update in the near future!
