Sebastien gets to the graveyard first with Katherine and Kathryn.
“I am going to use both of you for the training at first and see how much of a demon’s presence they can sense. Can you guys create after images of yourselves all around the graveyard with all ranges of power? I don’t want you to wear yourselves out.” He says. They both nod.
“We’re kids, we have endless supplies of energy and magical power. I’m sure we will be fine especially if we are both creating them. It will mean that we won’t have to create as many.” Katherine explains. Sebastien nods in understanding. Katherine smiles. “We will get started, you just sit back and relax, old man.” Sebastien’s eyes widen at that name as Katherine skips away laughing. He can’t help but laugh also as he waits for the other three to arrive. He can feel the after images being created and he can’t help but shiver at the immense power that is being put out all over the graveyard.
“You would think I would get used to this after living in Hell for so many years.” Sebastien comments as he looks around at the headstones. He hears movement and quickly straightens up as the three recruits walk into the graveyard. Jasper glances around nervously and Petra seems to hold his hand in a death grip as they approach him. Gabriel has a stony look on his face but Sebastien sees the true fear behind it.The three stop in front of Sebastien and take a moment to take in his appearance before speaking.
“How are you so calm?” Petra asks in amazement. Sebastien cocks his head to the side in question.
“What do you mean?” He asks. She motions around the graveyard.
“There’s so much dark energy around here, it’s practically suffocating.” Petra explains. Sebastien nods his head with a smile.
“Yes, I know.” He replies as he looks at the three of them. “Well, I’m glad that you can at least sense it in large amounts but how well would you sense it if it was just one? Well, we can find that out later, I want to see the extent of your powers first before I have you do the real training. Who wants to go first?” He asks as he steps forward and cracks his knuckles. Gabriel steps forward and Sebastien smiles as they square off on each other.
“You shouldn’t be smiling, it will distract you if you show emotions during a fight.” Gabriel tells him. Sebastien keeps smiling and shakes his head.
“You misunderstand my smile, kid. I don’t feel that many emotions and I certainly wouldn’t be excited about fighting you. You aren’t even worth me actually taking this seriously.” Sebastien eggs him on. He sees rage flare in Gabriel’s eyes as he strikes down a lightning bolt right in front of where Sebastien is standing. He walks around the burned ground and nods with a smirk on his face. “That was almost scary. You looked like you really wanted to kill me but I’m afraid you need to heed your own words of advice. Demons are manipulative creatures who will do anything to make you slip up.” He comments and then motions for Gabriel to step back in line. He looks to Petra next and she steps forward shakily.
“What is your combat form?” Sebastien asks.
“Hand to hand.” She answers quietly. He nods and prepares himself for the multiple blows he is probably about to experience.
“Well, come on, I can’t very well see the extent of your skills if you don’t attack.” He tells her. She doesn’t move so he looks over at Jasper and smiles. He flicks his wrist and Jasper starts struggling for air. “Oops, looks like your boyfriend’s lungs have been paralyzed.” He looks back at her and sees rage before she runs at him with a scream and starts throwing punches. He catches her fist and spins her around so that he traps her against his chest. “Sweetheart, you’re angry. Anger won’t solve your problem, think about it with a calm head and I’m sure you’ll be able to get in a clean hit.” He comments and then releases her to try again. She looks at Jasper and takes a deep breath before turning back to Sebastien and reeling back her fist. He sees her power building in a ball around her fist and he quickly builds up a bit of a shield to protect the front of his body. She growls and throws the punch right into his chest and he doesn’t even flinch as she keeps her fist there for a second.
“I hit you, now release the spell.” She glares at Sebastien. He smiles and nods before turning to Jasper and flicking his wrist again. Jasper gasps for air and stands back up.
“That was pretty low, don’t you think?” Gabriel asks. Sebastien raises an eyebrow at him.
“Demons are pretty low. If you think what I do is bad just wait until you train with the real deal.” Sebastien informs him. Gabriel steps back and stays quiet. “Jasper, it’s your turn and now you’ve got plenty of reason to attack me but will you use that reason to attack me? Will you let your anger fuel your attack or can you make yourself calm?” He asks as Jasper steps forward and draws his sword. “That’s a fancy little toy you’ve got there.” He comments as he examines the sword.
“It was made especially for me.” He says. Sebastien nods.
“Right, who is the weapons creator?” He asks. Jasper looks at him in confusion. “You know the person who creates the weapons for the angels. Who is it?” He asks.
“Why?” Jasper questions. Sebastien shrugs his shoulders as he watches Jasper’s shoulders tense up. He smiles and raises his hands.
“You caught me. Good for you staying on your guard, now try to attack me.” He says. Jasper holds his sword out in front of him like a jousting spear and Sebastien watches the power build at the tip before Jasper runs at him. Sebastien lets the sword stab him but he makes sure that it doesn’t hit any vital areas so that he can easily heal. Jasper gasps in surprise as Sebastien coughs up a tiny bit of blood with a smile on his face.
“Nice shot, kid.” He compliments Jasper as he slowly removes the sword from his body and lets the wound heal before moving on to the next segment of training. After a few minutes of silence Sebastien turns back to face the three and they are all staring at him shocked once again.
“What?” He asks.
“You healed. How did you heal?” Jasper asks. Sebastien looks down at the hole in his shirt and shrugs his shoulders.
“It’s not that big of a deal. Now, let’s move on to the last segment of tonight’s training…” He starts but Petra interrupts.
“There’s more? Don’t you think you’ve put us through enough for our first day?” She asks. Sebastien steps forward quietly until he is standing over her with an expressionless face.
“You couldn’t even sense the presence of a demon earlier today. We have a lot of work to do to get you all prepared for this mission. Now, as I was saying, the last segment you will be testing your powers against a real demon. Please do not go overboard with your attacks or do anything that could possibly kill her. Any other questions?” He stops in front of the crypt and turns back around to face them. Gabriel raises his hand and Sebastien nods to him.
“Why can’t we kill her? You make it sound like she’s important or something.” He asks. Sebastien nods.
“She is important but I can’t tell you why just yet. Just train with her and try not to hurt her too badly.” He replies. They nod in understanding before Sebastien looks to either side of the group with a smile. “Ladies, you can come out now.” He tells them. The group watches with horrified looks on their faces as Katherine and Kathryn walk out from behind the two tall headstones that were sitting on either side of the three.
“Thank God. I was starting to think you forgot about me, Seb.” Katherine says as she makes her way to the front to stand next to Sebastien. Kathryn nods in agreement as she walks up to stand on the other side of him.
“Meet Katherine and Kathryn. You will be training with Katherine for tonight.” Sebastien introduces them and then steps back to let Katherine take over.
“Aww. You all look so frightened. It’s so cute.” She says as she steps closer to the three. Their backs are stiff as they watch her move around and they don’t dare move as she steps even closer. She stops when her nose is about an inch from Gabriel’s and she studies him for a few seconds before turning and walking away.
“Your Father was right about that one. He’s cute and smart.” She gives Sebastien a thumbs up and a smile. Sebastien rolls his eyes and rubs his hand down his face. Gabriel blushes at Katherine’s compliment and it doesn’t go unnoticed. She gasps in excitement and starts jumping up and down.
“Did you see that Sebastien? I made the little angel blush.” She squeals as she looks at the other two completely uninterested. “Why is everyone so tense? Come on guys, loosen up. We are about to have some fun.” She starts jumping up and down again. Petra raises her hand now and Katherine points at her.
“First, how did you so easily say our Father’s name and second why are you so excited to fight us?” She asks. Katherine stops and thinks seriously for a second before smiling again.
“My father was one of your brothers, well one of your fallen brothers. It hurts me to say it but it shows my determination to never give into my darkness and if I ever do, I have people here that will either pull me back or put me down. I’m not excited about a fight, I’m just ready to get this over with because I am really tired after putting up that field of energy earlier.” She explains. The three stare at her in shock this time.
“That was you with all of that dark energy?” Jasper asks. Katherine nods.
“Yep. Me and her. I couldn’t have done it by myself or else I would have passed out before the test even started.” She tells them. Petra looks angry now.
“You scared us a lot.” She says. Katherine looks at her with an eyebrow raised.
“Are you gonna cry about it? If you’re mad about it why don’t you show me with your fists.” She jeers. Petra steps forward and starts circling with Katherine. “Come on. I bet you can’t hit me. You won’t hit me.” Katherine eggs her on and Petra growls and swings her fist forward with all of her power and ends up slamming it into the ground. Katherine takes the chance to kick her down to her side and then push her down on her back. She sets her foot on Petra’s chest and gives her a dark grin.
“Don’t hurt me.” Petra begs. Katherine raises her eyebrow again and puts a tiny bit more pressure on Petra’s chest.
“Your life won’t be spared.” She answers in monotone. Petra’s eyes widen and she gasps.
“What do you do in this situation Petra, think. You never beg a demon for your life.” Sebastien says. Petra looks back up at Katherine to see a snake wrapped around the demon’s arm. Katherine lowers her arm for the attack and Petra takes the chance to grab her wrist and flip her on her back before putting her knee in the girl’s chest. Katherine smiles and allows her tattoo to go back to sleep as she lays on the ground under Petra. Sebastien claps snapping Petra out of the moment.
“That was good, thank you for not causing too much damage.” Sebastien says as he walks up to the two girls and pulls Petra away from Katherine. He helps Katherine up and brushes off her back, her outfit made it so that some of the rocks cut into her skin. Sebastien starts looking at all of the scratches to make sure none of them are actually deeper cuts. Katherine laughs and pushes him away.
“Come on, Seb, I’m not a baby.” She smiles at him before turning back to the two boys. “Who’s next?” She asks with the dark look taking over her face again. Gabriel steps forward, he holds his head high as if to try to assert dominance over the demon. Katherine’s mouth falls open and the seriousness of the moment is lost as she starts laughing. “Ha ha ha. You think you can use that to intimidate me? Nice try, the only one who can use that look on me, is him.” She says pointing her thumb in Sebastien’s direction. Gabriel glares at Sebastien and then turns his attention back to the girl in front of him.
“I will strike you down where you stand.” He says his incantation and then a lightning bolt strikes down again right in front of Katherine. She whistles and looks at the burnt ground, just like what Sebastien did.
“You should probably practice that a bit more, your magic seems to be rusty. Why don’t I try one now?” She takes a deep breath and closes her eyes as she calls in her magic. Gabriel takes that chance to take up his sword and charge her. She allows him to stab her and then she opens her eyes with a smirk and snaps her fingers as fire catches around Gabriel’s feet and slowly catches on his shoes and starts climbing his body. Katherine coughs up blood as she pulls out the sword and Sebastien steps forward.
“That was good.” He says as the flames slowly fade away and he helps Katherine to stand steady. She laughs as he holds his hand over the long wound in her side.
“I haven’t felt this way since that day that we died for the first time. Damn and it wasn’t even that bad. Shows how rusty I’ve gotten, right?” She says with a laugh. Sebastien smiles as he finishes healing her wound and helps her stand up straight. She rolls her neck and shoulders and then looks down at her freshly healed skin.
“Alright, Jasper, it’s your turn.” Sebastien says as he steps back to stand next to Kathryn again. Katherine smiles as she steps forward and Jasper takes his place in the center with his sword. Katherine crouches a bit as she starts circling causing Jasper to circle also. After about two minutes of watching for a move to be made Jasper makes the first move with a slash right for Katherine’s shoulder and it hits. Katherine hisses and jumps back as she holds her shoulder, she glances over at Sebastien who just nods and quickly takes on all of the pain from her.
“Ha. That doesn’t even hurt.Your little toothpick barely made a cut.” She jeers. Jasper calms himself and readies for his next attack while Katherine is making her move. She runs forward at a crazy speed that he almost can’t see and then disappears for a split second before appearing right under him. His eyes widen and he coughs up a bit of blood.
“How?” He asks. She helps him sit down after removing the small knife from his side. She pats him on the shoulder with a smile.
“Demons have diverse sets of skills, especially royals. You will all have to learn new fighting styles and become good at multiple things if you want to be able to defeat any demons that you come in contact with.” She explains. The three of them nod and Sebastien steps forward again. He heals Jasper’s wound and helps him to stand.
“That will be all for today. I will be setting up a schedule and I will be switching these meetings to the mornings before class. No complaining, this is to help all of you get better.” Sebastien says. The three nod and walk away. Sebastien turns to taking care of Katherine’s wound.
“That was closer than I wanted you to get. Does it hurt a lot?” He asks. She nods her head with a grimace as he takes a look at the slash going down her shoulder. “It doesn’t look like he hit your wing. Do you want me to heal it or do you want to let it heal naturally?” He asks her. She thinks for a second.
“Will it heal completely if you heal it right now?” She asks. He shakes his head.
“No. It won’t reach the deepest parts of the cut. It would probably just be better to wrap it and let it heal on it’s own.” Sebastien says. Katherine nods and sits on one of the taller headstones as Sebastien produces some bandages. He walks up behind her and starts to pull the wound together. “The wrapping may hurt. Just bear with it.” He tells her. She rolls her eyes and smiles at him.
“I’m not a baby, Sebastien. There have been worse pains.” She tells him. She sees his eyes change and he nods as he goes back to preparing the bandages to wrap around her shoulder. She looks down too and feels a wave of sadness wash over her which is clearly Sebastien’s emotions. “I’m sorry.” She says.
“For what?” He asks as he places the top of the bandage under her right armpit right next to the slash on her shoulder. “Hold this, please.” He tells her and she reaches up to hold the end as he wraps it over the slash and then around her chest to start holding it in place.
“You keep having the nightmares and memories of what happened and I just brought it up again.” She explains. He finishes the wrap and tapes it up before pushing the straps of her tank top back up.
“The nightmares are my problem. They don’t have anything to do with whether or not you talk about it. I don’t really mind if you talk about it, honestly it’s probably better to talk about it but I don’t know if I could even try. Just referring to it like this makes me want to breakdown.” He tells her. She stands up with an understanding smile on her face.
“I know. A lot of the things that happened were beyond your control though.” She tells him. He huffs and then looks up at the dark sky.
“That’s the thing, none of the things were beyond my control until I lost my powers and I figured out just how devastating it was to be human. Having to watch the people that you once protected from everything die from all of those things that they were once protected from. “ He grits his teeth and clenches his fist. Katherine grabs his hand and rubs the back of it in a soothing manner.
“It’s okay. We have a new mission to set our sights on and this time no matter what we won’t fail.” She tells him with determination in her voice. He slowly relaxes and then smiles at her.
“You’re right. No matter what, I will keep both of you protected and find Elisabeth.” She smiles and hugs him with her good arm.
“Thank you. We will forever be in your debt for what you have done to protect us.” She tells him. He laughs and gently pulls her in. Kathryn comes up and gives him a hug from the other side and he smiles as he holds both of the girls.
“I honestly don’t know what I would do without you guys.” He tells them. Katherine nods and snuggles closer to his chest. After a few minutes of silence Sebastien decides that it’s time to go back. “Let’s go get some rest.” He says and both girls nod before phasing into him. He looks around the graveyard one more time before walking back to the dorms.
