Why Did You Do It?

Today is my first meeting with the doctor and I am really excited. He’s going to look so official sitting behind his desk writing my name into a folder. At least I already know what he’s going to talk to me about and I’m really good at feigning innoncence. I smile to myself as the nurse walks up to me.

“It’s time to go meet with the doctor.” She says in a monotone voice. I jump up off the couch with a big smile on my face. She walks me through the halls up to the main part of the hospital to where I can see the offices. I’m shaking with excitement as she knocks on the door. She glares at me before walking away and leaving me to wait for the doctor to open the door. As soon as he does I bounce into his office and sit in the chair in front of his name plate.

“Hello, you seem excited about this doctor visit.” He comments while walking around his desk. I notice that he sits a bit back from his desk instead of sitting right up in front of it. How is he supposed to write anything down like that?

“Aren’t you going to take any notes? I thought you were going to be like some official doctor with a folder full of notes and asking me stupid questions about things that I don’t know.” I tell him. He smiles and sits forward. His chair scoots up and he grabs his folder. He opens it to a page that already has a few names on it and starts writing.

“What is your name, young man?” He asks.

“Tyler.” I smile and lean back in my chair finally happy that he is the way that I imagined he would be. He looks up at me with a questioning look on his face. “What?” I ask.

“You don’t have a last name?” He asks. I shake my head no. “Okay. Now on to the reason we are having this meeting. First, you are new so I have to tell you how we run things here and we have to talk about how you ended up in here.”  He says. I sit straight up in my seat with a smile on my face.

“Okay. Why am I here? I honestly don’t understand why I was brought here.” I tell him with a pout formed on my face now. His eyes widen for a second before he clears his throat and pulls out a different folder. One that was already packed with information.

“Well, Alex had reported seeing you go missing but you were never in our records as being a patient so we figured that he was starting to get influenced by Lucee and her crazy imagination. But then you actually showed up and burned down a house and well we don’t know how to deal with it really. Do you remember the house that you burned down?” He asks me. I feel a smile wanting to come over my face but I have to keep it cool. Of course I remember and I know why I did it too, but I’m not going to tell you.

“No, I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I keep my face confused. He sighs and sits forward to look at me.

“Do you know whose house it was?” He questions me. Xavier’s.

“No.” I answer him. He pulls out the picture of the old farm house.

“This is where one of the old inmates used to live. The poor kid, first he gets kidnapped and kept away for two years, then he ends up here and that happens to him.” The doctor looks sad but it’s fake, obviously because why would he care? He just makes the money from “caring” for “sick” patients for families.

“What did happen to him?” I lean forward with my fingers locked and my elbows resting on my knees. I had Alex kill him obviously. I just want to see if the good doctor will tell me about it or if he will lie to make me feel better as the new patient.

“He miraculously got better. He’s with his parents now because he got cured.” The doctor quickly covers his tracks. He’s a bad liar. I feel a smile creep across my face again as I lean back with a sigh.

“You’re a bad liar, doc.” I tell him. He clears his throat and shakes his head.

“It’s not a lie. Now let’s move on to rules. The first is that we never talk about patients who are not present.” He says very seriously. I don’t have to talk about anyone. I just wanted to see if he was going to speak the truth. I nod at him.

“Understood.” I give a fake salute and he glares at me. I lean back in my chair to listen to the rest of the rules.

“You are not allowed to go anywhere outside of isolation without a nurse or guard escorting you. You will follow the posted times for lights out and outside time or there will be punishments. That is it for now but if you break any of these rules we will be forced to put special rules in place for you. Is that understood?” He asks me. I nod my head with a smile.

“I’ll do my best, sir.” I answer him. Then the door opens and a guard walks in. He grabs my arm and drags me out of the room. This is going to be so much fun. I’m going to love messing with Katy and Lucee, they seem to be the biggest scaredy-cats out of the group. Alex is fun too but his drive to destroy things is incredible. Katherine and Sarah are no fun at all but maybe I could get them to lighten up a bit. I smile wide as the metallic buzz sounds and I am lead back to the rec room by the guard. This is going to be fun.
