The Beginning

"Excited for tonight?" asked Bridget to her best friend, Andrea.

Andrea Walker had never been more excited before in her life. The fair-skinned young lady with clear blue eyes was attending the SyFy Fan-Con for the first time in her 25-year life. She and her best friend had been dreaming of attending the convention for many years, and was so excited that it was finally happening.

"You don’t say Bri. I’ve even got my Doc Brown sunglasses to wear right here," said Andrea as she pointed to the pair of sunglasses lying on the table.

"It will be a bit weird with you styling yourself as Doc Brown at Fan-Con," said Bridget as she walked to the table to see her sunglasses, "Usually girls never love sci-fi."

"Bridget," said Andrea, "It’s October 2015. I don’t think when Marty and Doc came here, they were expecting misogynists to take over the world. They saw an extremely futuristic world without any inequality. So it’s not going to be weird for me to act like Doc at the convention."

"You have a point there," said Bridget, "Anyway, we should be getting ready for the convention. We’re going to take 45 minutes to drive there."

"We’re driving?" asked Andrea, "Where we’re going, we don’t need roads!"

The two girls laughed.

All of a sudden, Andrea’s phone shrilled. Andrea stared at it and smiled when she saw the caller ID. She immediately picked up the phone.

“Hey dad!” said Andrea in excitement.

“Andrea honey!” yelled Andrea’s father in excitement, “How are you doing?”

“I’m okay dad,” she said, “How about you?”

“Couldn’t be better,” he said, “Well, not as great as your birth.” He laughed.

Andrea laughed at her father’s statement as well. Her father adored her a lot, and it made her mother jealous.

“How’s mom doing?” asked Andrea.

“Mom’s fine,” said Andrea’s father, “She’s gone with Darcy and his wife to some show.”

-ADD SOME CONVOS--

“By the way dad, I’ve got to go,” said Andrea as she prematurely halted their conversation, “Gotta go for the convention. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” She killed the call before even her dad could respond.

“Did your dad call you Messiah again?” asked Bridget.

“Surprisingly, no,” said Andrea, “Guess today was an exception.”

“You really did save your dad’s life didn’t you,” said Bridget, “Just imagine what would’ve happened if he died in Kuwait.”

Andrea agreed with Bridget’s statement. She was thankful that her mother had gone into labor just a day before her dad was supposed to fly to Kuwait to oversee the Gulf War. Her dad was granted leave because of his wife’s delivery, and he cheated death that day.

“What are we doing here reminiscing about the past,” said Bridget to put a halt to Andrea’s thoughts, “Fan-Con’s about to start in an hour. We need to get dressed.”

*******************************

Ever since she saw Back To The Future at the age of 8, Andrea Walker had been fascinated with it. That was the only thing that Andrea talked about when she progressed into middle school and high school. As a result, Andrea found it hard to mix with girls of her age because all they ever wanted to do was watch mushy chic-flicks.

“They’re lame,” she lamented once in high school when her friends disliked her taste in movies. Within days, she was ostracized by her friends. She went through high school for a year without a single close female friend, until she met Bridget.

Bridget Jones was just like her; a sci-fi fan, and less of a girl. They became close friends and just ten years later, they were going together to a sci-fi convention. Sure, Andrea was a normal woman just like anyone else, but no girl had a taste in sci-fi like her.

The two girls walked out of their car and into the convention centre. They registered themselves and were ushered into the convention room. As soon as Andrea entered the room, her jaw dropped. It’s Utopia! All of the people there were just as excited as her, and she couldn’t wait for the night to start.

"Let’s make sure the night never fizzles out," said Andrea.

"Watch out for Doc and Marty!" said Bridget with a laugh.

The night went on smoothly. Andrea had the time of her life with all of her fellow science-fiction fans there. She also met quite a number of people whom she found ’fascinating’, and interacted with them. "I think they might be my embryonic twins," said Bridget as she related the experience to Bridget at dinner.

"Probably your life-long dream of a time traveller taking you in the future might come true today," remarked Bridget as she saw Andrea chatting happily.

"If that ever happens, I’m going to go with him," replied Andrea with a chuckle.

However, Andrea had no idea that her words were actually true. Indeed, there was a time traveller present in the room. Sporting a rough, futuristic look, he wore a black jacket with a hood that almost certainly hid his huge eyes and pointed nose.

Andrea had no idea that a time traveller was indeed present in the room. He had been watching her ever since she had stepped into the room. He was from the future, the distant future, and sported a black jacket with a hood.
