What Delphine did with Simon was something that no other person could do; it was quite rare to see someone throw a large sword at something. She threw her sword with so much force that it seemed to fly faster than a falling person; Simon was shaking with so much fear and surprise. The sword made its way onto a nearby deer, and the animal fell onto the ground and died a few seconds later. Every last drop of blood from the deer began to stain the earth and the long sword, and the strong wind continued to howl. Delphine mostly ate deer and other animals for lunch and dinner, and she went to a tavern to eat whatever was for sale once a week.
Simon stood speechless and felt like he saw his life before his eyes, and he couldn’t even move a muscle.
"Can you cook deer?" Delphine asked. Then, Delphine takes her sword and carries a few parts of the deer’s body, and they both find a place in the forest to cook the deer.
About thirty minutes later, the deer was ready to be eaten, and Delphine had her armor off and watched as Simon continued to see if the deer was available or not.
"I brought some water," Simon said.
"Alright," Delphine said.
"I think it’s done. It looks awful, but it tastes pretty good. Here’s yours. I’ll dry the rest, so it should keep us for a while. Let’s eat!" Simon said. And so, Delphine and Simon started to take off the many body parts of the deer, and they began eating as the sun was setting down.
Delphine watched on as Simon was eating much faster than her; clearly, she saw that he was starving and needed twice as much to eat. Delphine didn’t seem to be keen on what she wanted to do with Simon, just yet. She simply sat there and ate the deer as Simon was eating as much as he could of the large animal. It was sporadic to see anyone who seemed to be trusted in this world, and it was pretty common to be concerned about who to trust. The deer itself was very good for food, and the animal was ripe and fresh for any hunter to feast upon.
Simon was drinking some of the water that he carried with him and made sure to save some for Delphine. Suddenly, he saw that Delphine took one more bite of the deer and slowly placed it down. It occurred to him that Delphine was not as hungry as he was, and she didn’t eat as often as he did.
"What’s the matter, Delphine? Do you not like my cooking?" Simon asked.
"No, the deer was good. But, I’m not hungry," Delphine answered.
"How is that even possible?" He asked.
Then Delphine answered and said to him, "It has to deal with the fact that my body can’t handle twice as much food than a normal person. It’s not that I hate what you made or cooked, but most of the time, I find myself not being able to finish everything. Ever since I started hunting demons, I get used to the fact that I don’t get hungry as often as I used to. Throughout most of the day, I just find myself a place to sleep, whether if it’s an inn or a forest. And throughout most of the night, I walk on and prepare myself against an onslaught of demons. Whether you believe me or not, it’s been happening ever since I began my journey."
Then, Simon was sitting there and wondering what it truly felt to be someone like Delphine; he was curious yet worried. In all the days of his life, the Ebony Warrior was no ordinary person to wander the earth in search of someone or something.
Then Simon thought to himself, Oh, she looks so typical up close, I thought she was just like me. But Delphine’s half-demon and half-human. A warrior who walks in the night. A warrior who kills any monster in her path. I wonder what she thinks of monsters and humans.
Then, Delphine started to feel a presence in the wind, and it was a bold, sharp presence that she was feeling. Delphine takes one more bite of the deer and gets herself off the ground as the night seemed to be coming for both her and Simon.
"Hey, where are you going?" Simon asked.
"Don’t follow me," Delphine answered. Her eyes explained it all to the young hunter; she felt something calling for him, and she could not allow him to go after her.
Simon began to be very confused as he watched Delphine go deep into the forest, and it was hard to ask her why.
"Bathroom break, I guess?" He asked himself. Simon had his questions, yet it was too late to let Delphine answer any of them as she walked all by herself.
The presence that Delphine felt was as if the sound was dragging her body towards that location, and she could not stop walking towards it.
"Over here," a dark female voice said. The voice came from Delphine’s left side of where she was standing, and she turned herself around and saw Lagertha.
The Wolf Queen wanted to make sure that Simon was not behind her this time so that she can talk with Delphine in secret.
"Well, well, well. How impulsive," Lagertha said.
"I don’t want to be doing this with you, Lagertha. What could you possibly want from me this time?" Delphine asked.
"Answer me this. Why did you bring that man with you? He’ll only be slowing you down."
"Simon is just a cook... and a demon hunter. He won’t be getting in the way."
"Oh, you have a follower now? That’s very rare coming from someone like you."
Indeed, Delphine didn’t have the time to put up with Lagertha, and whatever trick is up to her sleeve as the night begins to come for them.
"Don’t mind me. I’m just a little curious. Does he remind you of someone you’ve known?" Lagertha asked.
"Why have you come back, Lagertha? Why is it whenever I find myself in a difficult situation, you’re the one who has to stand in the way of things?" Delphine asked.
"Forget what I said before, Delphine. I don’t know why I brought it up. I don’t intend to bring it up again."
"Then tell me this: what did you bring me here? If I didn’t know it was you who carried that strong scent, who else could?"
"Ah, so you know of my scent. Many others who wander the Earth don’t seem to smell someone like me. My senses seem to tingle. It’s kind of awkward."
"I’ve always known your strong scent. You reek of wolves if they ever get wet in the rain. You have fur coming out of your ears, and your breath smells completely like you’ve finished drinking fresh wine. So yeah, I know all about you and your scent."
Then, Lagertha’s eyes opened wider as she seemed to start getting serious about what she wanted to say with Delphine. Lagertha walks over to Delphine, and she starts to circle her body until she ends up behind her back. Delphine was clueless about what was happening with her, and there was no way for her to take another step. Then, Lagertha lifts the back of Delphine’s corset, and she starts to look at the scars that Delphine received. Delphine could barely move an inch as she had the Wolf Queen move her fingers all across her back.
"You better have a damn good reason for doing this to me," Delphine said.
Then Lagertha said to her, "You’re becoming reckless. This must’ve been from the creature you encountered just a week ago. Don’t forget, even if the wound closes, if you get hit in a vital spot, you’ll die just like the demons. The other one looks fine. You’re okay for now."
Then, Lagertha pulls Delphine’s corset down and gets herself up, and she wraps her arms around Delphine’s body. Delphine started to shiver as her warm body and flesh were being held tightly by the Wolf Queen, and she couldn’t let herself escape. Then, Lagertha started to smell her neck and throat, and her head went up and down as she was feeling Delphine.
"I wonder what that man would think if he saw you like that. I’d wager he might ask you out one day," Lagertha said. Then, Delphine pushes Lagertha away from her, and she covers her shoulders after hearing Lagertha say that.
"Ugh, get away from me. I’ll let you know that Simon and I just met. If he ever wants to take me out, he and I will have to know each other much more," Delphine said.
"But still, you shouldn’t be so impulsive. Get attached to him, and you’ll be the one who gets hurt," Lagertha said.
"It’s none of your concern if I get damaged or not. I will take care of Simon, and I will protect him from whatever stands in my way. Do we have an understanding?"
"Yes. Of course, we do. I came to give this to you."
Lagertha pulled a large black paper from her pocket and rolled it back to normal as there was a rare item that she wanted to show Delphine. Delphine’s eyes widened with surprise as she saw the thing that Lagertha was holding in her hands; it was unlike anything she had ever seen before. Lagertha held two marbles that had the face of a werewolf; the eyes were glowing brightly, and the color of the eyes was bright red.
"What... on earth is this?" Delphine asked.
Then Lagertha answered and said to her, "They are for your sword and that hunter’s sword. Trust me. They will prove quite useful on your journey. I know what it is you yearn for, Delphine. I can help you, and I have the power to make sure that everything goes according to plan. However, without the materials you need, and without all the help you can get, the end of your path will be impossible, and the consequences will be fatal. Because as of right now and at this moment, you are unequipped for the job."
Delphine took a good look at the fascinating object that the Wolf Queen gave to her; it was an item that would assist her as she hunts down many more demons.
"We’ll meet again, Delphine. Farewell," Lagertha said. And so, Lagertha walked away from Delphine and continued to walk on until she disappeared into the shadows.
Delphine began to wonder and question how and why did Lagertha come by such a gift that she can use for her ebony greatsword. She felt like she didn’t need any new additions to her sword because she thought that the blade itself was enough to cut down five demons in a single blow. Although she wasn’t fond of the Wolf Queen, Delphine knew that she had to put her trust in her if she wishes to progress further. She knew that she had to cast her jealousy of Lagertha aside, and it would be terrible if she went completely unprepared. Then, she places those marbles into her pocket, and she slowly walked back to where Simon was sitting.
Meanwhile, Simon was gathering what was left of the deer and saved half for Delphine and the rest for himself. He was eating all by himself as Delphine was speaking with Lagertha about personal matters and other essential things. Simon was used to hunting all sorts of animals that roamed in the wildlands and vast forests, and he never got bored of hunting. He also had to get used to hunting demons and surviving the countless nights that would befall him. Now, he follows the Ebony Warrior wherever she goes, and he has a feeling that he might be able to know her much more than other women that he has encountered.
She sure has been gone for a long time. Must be taking a big one. Simon thought. Then, Simon saw Delphine coming back to him, and he saw that she was not acting as she was a few minutes ago.
"Ah, Delphine. You’re back. I dried the rest of the meat, so if you ever want any, just let me know," Simon said. But before he could say anything else, he saw that Delphine had seen something or someone that made her refuse to tell him anything.
She had a bold, yet serious look on her face as she stared at Simon; her eyes seemed to glow brightly as the full moon appeared in the sky.
"Oh, is... something wrong, Delphine?" Simon asked.
"Simon, your sword. Hand it over," Delphine said.
"You... want me to give you my sword?"
"Just for a few seconds."
Then, Simon handed her his double-edged steel sword, and he watched her grab out a marble that she received from Lagertha. He gave a good look at the valuable item that Delphine was carrying and watched her rub the sword with the carving. Then, lots of smoke started to emerge from the marble and onto the edges of the long blade, and the smoke remained on the sword.
"What on earth is that?" Simon asked.
Then, Delphine answered and said to him, "I don’t know what it called. But it’s an unbridled marble that is useful for the toughest and powerful of night creatures. The smoke is mixed with garlic and salt, and anyone who has hunted a demon before knows that demons are allergic to salt. Even though my sword can kill as many demons as possible, it will still need to be consecrated with magic. Magic has been around for many centuries, and many hunters, travelers, adventurers, and sorcerers have used magic to drive their enemies away. But we are using that magic to our advantage.
"We do what we please, and we will cleanse the earth of all the night creatures and their masters. Nothing shall stand in our way. You understand that, right?"
"Yes, I understand."
"Good. You can have your sword back."
Then, Simon took the handle of the blade and gazed upon the massive upgrade that was added to his weapon. He seemed to have a higher advantage with his sword than before, and he began to imagine how powerful he must be with the magic added to his blade. Then, he watched as Delphine did the same thing with her ebony greatsword, and he marveled at the fact that they seemed to have some sort of power inside the two of them. Even though Delphine had the upper hand than Simon when it came to fighting demons, she still had to trust her instincts. Then, the full moon started to be covered in blood before Delphine and Simon, and the cold wind started to breeze.
"Simon, prepare yourself!" Delphine shouted. Then Simon started to walk next to Delphine and held his sword as he began to be ready against the demonic onslaught.
The ground started to shake, and a large group of about forty demons began to walk before Delphine and Simon; they all carried swords and axes. The difference now is that some leader or some demon-possessed man controls none of them. The demons have heard of the death of the Daedra, who ruled the castle of Eastmarch, and now they seek revenge against the Ebony Warrior. The creatures had all sorts of hatred and contempt against the knight who brutally fought against them and their other friends. Every single night, they desperately try to come up with new plans to cut her down, but they have all failed.
"Simon, stay behind me!" Delphine said.
"Delphine, I don’t know. I mean... there’s so many of them, and you might—" Simon said.
"DON’T ARGUE WITH ME, SIMON! Stay behind me, and you’ll be alright!" She shouted. And so, Simon did as she said and walked behind her, and he could hear all of the growls and shrieks that the demons made.
"Simon, just... don’t worry about me. Stick with me, and we will make it through the night," Delphine said. Then, one of the demons walked towards Delphine and pointed his blade at Delphine as the other creatures stood and watched.
"The murderer of thousands of our legion stands before us?" The demon asked.
"The one who will not stand and watch her people suffer by your kind," Delphine said.
"We shall tear you limb from limb. In the end, you will be the one begging for your miserable life!"
Then, that demon ran towards Delphine and pointed his sword at her chest to stab her, and he was determined not to let his comrades down. Unfortunately, Delphine had the upper hand, and she used her greatsword and slices off the demon’s arm. All of the demons in front of her were shocked and disturbed by how powerful she was against them; they all trembled at the way she fought against them.
"You forget who I am. I am the one who shall not rest until every last one of you vile creatures are driven away from this land!" Delphine shouted. Then, she uses her greatsword and drives the blade deep into the demon’s mouth, and she slices half of the demon’s head off.
The head flew onto one of the demons that was standing in the frontline, and they were all in agony after seeing the horrible outcome. It was the first time that Simon ever got to see Delphine fight demons up close in person, and he started to shiver after seeing it all for himself.
"I stand ready, creatures of darkness. I do not fear any of you. I bring death from the shadows," Delphine said. Then, another demon began to charge towards Delphine to try and kill her, but even he couldn’t stand a chance.
Delphine parried the attack, grabbed the demon’s head, and made him stare at all of the other demons. Then, she uses her greatsword and slices off the demon’s head and kicks the rest of its body down to the ground. Lots of blood began to splatter all over Delphine’s sword and the ground as she stood ready against the demons. She and Simon did not hesitate to make sure that they are prepared to make it through the night against the onslaught of the night creatures.
