Chapter Four

Once I walked out of the classroom I saw Nichole outside in the hall talking with a group of people I didn’t know. I felt uncomfortable walking up to all them and interrupting their conversation. So I just walked off to my next class.

Anna!”

I turned around and saw her running down the hall after me.

Why did you walk off without me?”

Sorry, I just didn’t want to be rude and interrupt.”

I wanted you to meet my other friends, you will like them they are really nice.”

Okay, I’ll say hi to them next time.”

Okay, at lunch then.”

Okay.”

I didn’t really want to meet all of her other friends, I am not a very social individual. I normally keep my list of friends short, I don’t need many. Things get complicated fast when you have too many friends pulling you into a million different directions and the drama between all of them gets over whelming. I like to have one good friend and some acquaintances.

This next class we had together and that’s why she was asking why I didn’t wait for her. I am not one of those girls that need to go everywhere together, I actually prefer to be alone. I hate the girls that insist on going to the bathroom with you when you go and then holds annoying stupid conversations the whole time. I just want to get in and get out, not hang out in there.

I hated algebra and dread this class every day, I wasn’t that bad in math until high school. I don’t know why but I can not get down all the rules and there are so many. I really try to learn this so I can pass and move on but it seems as I finally start to understand we move to something else difficult. I feel as though I am never going to be on top of it.

Nichole was sitting in the desk behind mine in the back of the classroom. I was focused on the classwork trying to figure it out when she tapped me on the shoulder to get my attention.

Do you want to go to the movies tonight with some of my other friends to get to know them?”

Sure, what movie?”

We were talking about the new Underworld movie out in theaters, we are probably seeing that.”

Okay awesome, I wanted to see that.”

It’s an R rated movie but my grandmother will buy the tickets for us and get us in and then she will leave to pick us up later after the movie is over.”

You sure she will do that for us?”

Yes, she has before.”

Okay cool.”

The teacher cleared her throat loudly to get our attentions, I hadn’t realized her at the front talking until now. Luckily she just gave us a stern look and then went back to talking. I hate it when teachers call you out in front of everybody. Luckily Mrs. Jones is a nice teacher and doesn’t like to put us on blast like that.

After she was done talking I went back to my classwork wondering how tonight was going to go to the movies. I hope everything goes smoothly and we are allowed in. I am going to tell my dad it’s another movie that isn’t R rated and hopes he never finds out. I don’t even know what movies are out right now, I am going to have to look online to see the movie listings to pick an acceptable movie title.

We were to meet Trent at the movie theater, its the first time seeing him outside of school and I was so nervous. He didn’t call it a date but it sure did feel like one. I am glad it’s going to be a group of us it will make things less awkward. I wonder what movie he has in mind, probably a horror or action movie. I am okay with horror but action bores me so I hope it’s a scary movie.

Nichole and I were getting ready to go out at my apartment, and my dad was nervous about me getting in a strangers car, even if it was a parent driving us. One of Nichole’s friend’s name Brendan said him and his dad will pick us up for the movies. She had brought me over another one of her Gothic outfits for me to wear tonight. It was a corset and black skinny jeans. She had to help me with the corset since it was a real lace up one.

She made it so tight I didn’t think I would be able to wear it very long if I wanted to be able to breathe. She said I’ll get used to it that I look great.

I’m going to do your makeup.” She stated.

No, I already put my makeup on this morning.”

I am redoing it, it’s going to look great, trust me.”

Okay...”

Anytime I have had someone else to my make up I always feel like I look like Mimi off of that Drew Carey show. I watched as she went and got her purse and started rummaging through it for her makeup.

She pulled out a bottle of foundation and rubbed it into my face and then powder. She put black eye shadow on me and then told me to shut my eyes and she put the eye liner. Then had me open my eyes and look up to put some on the bottom. I am starting to get annoyed with all this preparation. I never go through this much trouble on my appearance. Lastly, she put some mascara and then the make over was done or so I thought.

She took a small straightener out of her purse, damn she is never going to be done. She took like a good 30 minutes on my hair, after she was done I looked in the mirror and hardly recognized myself. I look like I am in a rock band or something. At least she didn’t put black lipstick on me and pale white makeup, I wouldn’t have even been surprised. I guess this is good though, I don’t feel bland around her anymore. I feel like I will fit in with her and her group just fine now.

She took a step back to admire her work.

He is going to drool all over you.” She laughed.

I don’t know about all this, it seems too much.”

You look great.”

Thanks, it will just take some getting used to.” I smiled.

There was a knock at the front door, my dad got the door and told us our friend was here to pick us up.

Here is a pen and paper, I want you to take this to his father and have him write his drivers license and full name and you go to the license plate a jot down the number too.”

I can’t do that!”

Yes you can or you are not leaving with them.”

This is so embarrassing, dad.”

Well if you never come home I can give this information over to the police.”

I can’t believe you are making me do this.”

Fine, I’ll be right back,” I grumbled.

Why can’t he go and ask his father for the information he wants, I am so embarrassed, I almost don’t want to go anymore. If we were not meeting Trent I would have just stayed in tonight. I reluctantly walked up to the white Ford parked outside. Nichole was already in the truck she had left before my dad dropped that bomb shell on me. She has no idea how awkward things are about to get.

Get in.” Nichole yelled from in the truck.

The truck lights were almost blinding, I couldn’t really see everyone very good. I walked around to the driver’s side to ask his father for the info.

Hi, my dad said he wants your Drivers License, plate number and full name or I can’t go.” I pleaded him with my eyes.

Okay... you can never be too careful.” He smiled reassuringly taking the pen and paper I was holding out to him and wrote all his info down for me.

Thank you, I’m sorry my dad is just super protective.”

I understand, it’s okay.”

I am so glad he didn’t give me a hard time about that and we just got it over with. I thanked him again when he finished and handed me the pen and paper with all his information on it. Then I went back upstairs to our apartment and handed the paper to my dad. He looked it over and then said thank you, you are free to go with them now.

Be safe and have fun, call me if you need anything.”

Okay, bye.”

Love you.”

Love you too, Dad.”

I walked back outside to the waiting white ford, the back passenger side door opened up for me. This friend of Nichole’s is cute, not hot but cute. Trent definitely takes the torch compared but he wasn’t so bad to look at either. He was tall with black shaggy hair and light brown eyes. I tried to act like I hadn’t noticed him. I didn’t want to lead him on just because I thought he was okay looking.

Tonight was all about getting to know Trent, he was who I was really interested in.
