Lauxera liked an update for A Gentleman’s Murder

Dear readers,

It has been a long while since my last update, and you must be surprised to hear from me again. My second book, Unnatural Ends (formerly titled Cat’s Paw) was released back in 2023 and should be available through all the usual channels; and now, I’d like to announce the upcoming release of my third book, A Pretender’s Murder, currently set for July 2025 in North America and September 2025 in the UK.

Yes, that’s "upcoming release", not "pre-order campaign". It seems as though A Gentleman’s Murder was successful enough that no pre-order campaign was required for its sequel. So what is this sequel, then? Well ...

It’s the spring of 1925, and Eric Peterkin is settling into his position as the newly installed club secretary of the Britannia Club. Until elections can be held, the acting club president is Colonel Hadrian Russell: charming, magnanimous, immensely popular, a man who began the War with four strapping sons and ended it with four widowed daughters-in-law. But when the Colonel is shot and thrown bodily through one of the front upstairs windows of the club, Eric is called upon once again to investigate. The quest takes him through Paris to an isolated Swiss sanatorium and back, before putting him on a manhunt for an elusive former spy. As it turns out, the intrigues born on the home front are no less deadly for having occurred while the men were miles away.

Does that pique your interest? Then keep an eye out for it! In the meantime, I’ll be over here working on a third mystery for our friend Eric Peterkin ...

Welcome to the final frontier, Space Crew. We’ve reached the edge of the galaxy, and there’s no turning back.

    News #1: Content is Complete

I’ve been through a couple rounds of edits with the Inkshares team since the last update, and this week I sent off the final doc for one last look-over before it hits the printers. The deal is sealed; I can no longer touch this book (which I have very good and very anxious feelings about).

News #2: We Have a Cover

I’ve admittedly been holding onto this for awhile, but I wanted to do a BIG UPDATE with all the BIG THINGS. This was created by the good folks at Cover Kitchen, and they knocked it out of the park in my biased opinion:

News #4: Backer Goodies are Being Prepped As We Speak

The Companion Guide is getting its finishing touches before I send it off to print. Pendants have been shipped by the amazing Esanany, and they’re looking fantastic. Take a look:

No doodle today, because these images are worth more of your data.

And in case you missed it, you’ll have your books by May 1! Don’t forget to make sure your address is up to date on Inkshares.

    Your somewhat sedulous Space Captain,

      Dear friends and followers,

Things continue apace, and I think we’re on track for publication before summer. It’s a lot more work than I bargained for! The big news, though, is that we’re changing the title of the book. The story will now be published as "A Gentleman’s Murder". Well, if a gentlemen’s club, then of course a gentleman’s murder, right? And one has to admit it rolls off the tongue more easily.

It does mean I’m going to need a new header for these news bulletins....

The other big news is that we’ve also got a new cover!

It’s not quite final yet, I’m told, but I gather that this is a pretty good taste of what’s in store.

And now, I had better get back to those edits. Before somebody murders me....

Whoa... what a trip it’s been.

Before I get into that though, let me give you some good news. Better news than whatever I’ll be prattling on about.

So, have you pre-ordered A God in the Shed from Inkshares? You did? You’re awesome. In fact, you might have already received an email notification that your physical copy has shipped (if you ordered a physical copy that is. And you should have, because ooooh boy. Such lovely books. So, so lovely.). But let’s say you’re not into this ’waiting’ thing? What if you want to start digging into this tale of horror in a small down over this very coming weekend?

Well, you can. By the end of the day, the eBook version of A God in the Shed will be available to download from the site. .mobi and .epub will be available, as always. I sincerely hope you enjoy the book and that if you do, you’ll let me know. Review it on Amazon, on Goodreads. Send me a Tweet @jfdubeau. I want to hear from you guys.

        You’re my very favourite readers.

Which is why I put myself through Hell in order to sign all your copies of A God in the Shed. As promised, I flew myself to San Francisco on a plane leaving Montreal at 5:30AM, signed a bunch of copies as they were being packaged and shipped by the amazing Elena Stofle (with an assist from the dedicated Avalon Radys). Hung out and had dinner with Adam and then, at 11:30PM on the same day, was on a plane back to Montreal.

When I say I’d go to the ends of the Earth for my readers, I do not kid around.

Now please, enjoy the book. We’ve come this far, it’d be ashamed if you didn’t.

        JF

Such a pretty book... (note: Inkshares fed me cheese. They have won my heart once more)
