Something something Monday, Space Crew.
I think I’ve got enough caffeine in my blood to send an informative update. If any of this is incoherent, it’s actually largely because I accidentally stayed up late rewriting some parts of the book. Because you guys deserve the very best (like no book ever was...).
Ahem.
This Past Saturday
I spent 8ish exhilarating and exhausting hours walking and talking around ComicCon. I pitched this book to roughly a hundred people, made a ton of connections in the sci-fi/writing/crowdfunding communities, and collected a pleasing amount of con-swag. It was a great day of finding a group to call my people.
If you’re one of the people I met, I likely have your card or contact info in my swag bag already, but feel free to get in touch with me first—especially if you want to connect for a podcast or blog feature.
For new contacts and old Crew members alike, you can always reach me at acbaldwinbooks@gmail.com, or on Twitter: @ac_baldwin.
Upcoming Cons
The summer con circuit is vast and intimidating. I wanted to make it back home to the Atlantic cons, but I unfortunately haven’t had the time.
I am very much considering (hovering over the "Buy Tickets" button) going to Fan Expo in Toronto as a regular attendee for more networking. Stay tuned.
I will be attending Ottawa’s Can-Con this September (9th-11th). You should probably come out if you’re in the area, since I’ll be even more prepared, and will be giving out more bookmarks, some sample chapters, and maybe signing things? If that doesn’t sway you, it’s on my birthday, so now you’re obligated out of friendship.
Now, may your coffee mugs be overflowing and your Monday be as bearable as a Thursday.
Oh, and if you haven’t yet, please pre-order this book so it can be fully-funded. And then instead of me pitching it at you we can high-five and be friends.
Your Questionably Sentient Space Captain,
-AC
Hello all!!
There are a mere 4 days left in the contest and right now, I am sitting in 4th place about 13 orders away from 3rd. I know I’m sounding like a broken record here but to the 61 followers who haven’t pre-ordered yet please consider hitting the green button. As a gamer girl, I wanted to represent all the ladies out there and share a tale that would hopefully help bridge the gap between women and the gaming community. Even if I don’t win the contest, I’m going to keep on writing until I finish Are You Sure You Want to Quit? and hopefully reach Quill as well! :)
This will be my last plea for support for my project so you won’t be bothered by me for a couple days! I’ll be heading to Austin, Texas with my boyfriend in a few days (is it sad that I’m more excited about the Pokemon I’ll catch there than the actual trip?) and I can’t wait!
Until next time dragonslayers!
Best,
アリサちゃん
Dear friends and followers,
We stand today at 388 orders. Things picked up a bit this week, and 400 is just around the corner. It’s very exciting, and I thank you all for getting us here. Somehow the thought of being in the 400s makes the achievement of 750 seem that much closer, that much more real.... I should reiterate, by the way, the we go into production as soon as we hit 750, not when we reach the final deadline. This means that the sooner we get there, the sooner everyone gets their books.
If you haven’t checked out the accompanying text adventure game, "Mustard, Music, and Murder", yet, I encourage you to do so.
Speaking of games, it’s the final week of the Nerdist contest. "Too Many Controllers" is currently in the lead, but, to paraphrase Yogi Berra, it ain’t Game Over till it’s Game Over.
Every order helps.
My own personal stake in "Too Many Controllers" aside, there are some worthy contenders in the top ten right now. "Squids In" should, I think, appeal to anyone who enjoyed Landon Crutcher’s "Monkey Business"--which I did. In a way, I see them as spiritual siblings, and it would be great to see them side-by-side on a shelf in matching formats ... part of a series of zoological comedy, perhaps.
In the last Inkshares blog post, the top ten contenders answered the question, "who would you cast in the movie/TV version of your book"? Well, my contribution to the anthology is clearly a John Cleese movie. But what about "Murder at the Veterans’ Club"?
I’d been thinking of Aidan Turner in the role of Eric Peterkin, based solely on Turner’s performance in the latest BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie’s "And Then There Were None", even if he’s technically too tall for the part. Thoughts?
Don’t give me that look, Mr. Turner. Sure, it’s a bit early to be thinking of casting actors in the roles, but some people like to be able to visualise this sort of thing.
With that in mind, I bid you all a good week. Have fun, and keep reading.
Hello everyone!!
Hello Adventure Readers,
Well ... things have stalled out a bit with preorders and we are still a bit short of our 250 needed for publication. If the idea of a female ’Indiana Jones type’ searching for treasure in the South Pacific with a rascally ex-pat seaplane pilot appeals to you, then jump aboard with a preorder to make this book really happen!
Thank you to all my friends & family who have ordered already and thank you to all of you who will order soon and will be forever on my supportive list of Friends. "Wings of the Pirate" is a completed novel that has been polished countless times and is ready to hand over to the Publisher once we reach our 250 preorder goal. My good friend & Artist, Al Bringas has already done over 20 illustrations and will be finishing up the rest shortly. If all goes well, you should have your copy of the book early in the spring of 2017.
Now is the time to jump in with a preorder! It would be fantastic if everyone who follows the project grabs an ebook or goes for the special 1st edition, autographed ’Hardcover’ (a rarity for Authors in the world of ebook & paperback), then we would be at our goal in no time. If you’re interested in seeing this book in print, sign up for a preorder or tell someone who loves old fashioned adventure with seaplanes, Air Pirates and mix of colorful characters in the South Pacific to get theirs!
Every order really makes a difference and your support is important to me and very much appreciated.
Thank You!!

A thousand apologies for the lack of updates on this page - but work on the novel and other things has had my full attention. Work is going very well, and each day brings me one day closer to completing the manuscript and having the finished book delivered into your hands.
I’ll be delivering a speech tomorrow on my personal experiences (both writing the novel, and working through Inkshares) and I am hoping to have some video from the event to post to the book’s Inkshares page. Also, more artwork (including a final cover!) is on the way, so never fear - there’s plenty more eye-candy left on the relatively*-near horizon.
I’m also going to eventually get around to uploading a handful of new chapters - though the time frame for this continues to change. If you haven’t read through what’s currently available, I implore you to check my stuff out. I’m quite happy with the quality of the posted chapters~
