Go nuts. This forum is being actively developed, so if you post your thoughts they are likely to be read by Inkshares.

My personal hope is that this becomes so essential that people gravitate to the forum. I don't want to force people off of Goodreads to use something. They should want to come here.

Another 1.009 words added to the draft!

To be honest, 90% of those words seem total rubbish, telling the story in a horrible manner. Still, I hope the re-write will save the day :)

I've finished the 5th scene, the first 'unreality' scene in the novel, and have started the next one.

As for tomorrow, goal - another 1.000 words.

        My campaign is over!

        IN PRODUCTION!

Now... I just need to make sure my book is the best book ever to book, don't I?

SO! Most of the manuscript is done, but there are some rather... wobbly parts. January and February are going to be hardcore #amwriting months, and I'm aiming to be done with my final, FINAL edits by February 29th. Leap Day!

Thank you so much, everyone who has helped me get through this campaign.

Thank you to the other half of my heart, Alex, without whom I'd be adrift.

Thank you to John Robin and Joe Terzieva, who have helped me keep my head on straight through all the craziness.

Thank you to Matt Kaye, Avalon Radys, Jeremy Thomas, and Thad Woodman at Inkshares, who have been so supportive and encouraging.

Thank you, my readers. You are taking a chance on me, and I'm not going to let you down.

          Hah, I'm a disaster.

I just start writing. No planning. I generally have an idea of a really cool scene, and then I write it. More stuff comes to mind and I write that, too. Lots of writing, lots of thinking.

I usually know the basic story I want to write - the barest of bare bones of story beats - but the story will change dramatically based on what happens spontaneously as I write. It is fun and sometimes frustrating, since I'll do things like write... let me see... 4K words in one direction, and then realize that the story would  be better if the entire situation changed and I have to cut all that. I do that a lot.

I do a ton of planning around characters, though - early on I made a diagram with all five main characters and forced myself to come up with two things each pairing had in common, and two reasons for them to hate each other. Then I made sure to create a relationship arc for each pairing. Nothing happens in my book that doesn't affect the characters/their relationships, and I tried really hard to make every single step of progress in the book happen because of the nature of my characters and their decisions/actions.

In my defense, if I didn't just let myself write, I don't think I'd be able to come up with the most fun stuff. (Maybe I would, though?) I'm going to try to do a detailed outline for the second book before I write too much of it, in the hopes that I'll avoid writing in the wrong direction so often the next time around.

When Facebook added nested replies to comments on posts I realized how much they help keep a thread organized. It would be nice to have that.

Denise Guillot liked an update for Blood Dawn

I'm proud to share the official Blood Dawn map!

After more than 15 months working carefully on the draft for Blood Dawn, I enjoyed a much-deserved break during the holidays. One thing I got around to doing that I've been looking forward to the most is drawing the map for the world.

Some of you have seen the sketch of the world (it's in the third sample chapter on my project page). This map is much more detailed and put together with care. It came together like magic, in fact. I'm very pleased!

p.s. think this is cool? If you haven't bought Blood Dawn, then now is the time! This map will appear in the book, and is but a foretaste of the rich adventure waiting for you.

Denise Guillot liked an update for California's Lost Gold - Illustrated Poetry

Dear supporters of California's Lost Gold,

Thank-you for your patience. I realize there hasn't been much development here recently. This project is very dear to me though and it will be brought back into focus in the near future.

For the moment though, I have had to shift my attention first and foremost to my other Inkshares project - The Last Machine in the Solar System - which is funding and competing in the Sword & Laser competition.

There are only 10 days remaining in the contest and my novella is in 2nd place! Truly incredible support, as we've garnered over 230 followers and 180+ readers.

But the contest remains very close and I could really use your support over there. Please have a look at the story. Give it a read. And if possible, hit pre-order, and move me one step closer to publication!

                    Thanks so much, -Matthew
