Fernando Crôtte liked an update for The Devil Inside

June 2018

Hello "Devil Inside" friends!

It has been a while since I last updated, so I wanted to just send a quick note out. "The Devil Inside" is still in the pre-production queue with Inkshares, waiting for its turn with the editor.

Many of you are also following my adventures with my other Inkshares title, "Shadow King." That novel officially kicked off production in June, and we are targeting an October release (which means those who pre-ordered SHOULD be getting their copies in September).

As we get closer to that date, I’ll inquire with Inkshares to see if I can get an idea of how many books are ahead of Devil so I can get you a more concrete update.

As always, both books are available for pre-order so if you have NOT ordered your copy yet, no time like the present! :-)

Have an excellent June and I’ll be in touch soon.

Best,
Susan

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Wings of the Pirate

    Hello Adventure lovers!

Yes!  May 29th was the official release date for "Wings of the Pirate".  I have heard from many of you that have received copies and have already read the book.  It’s a fun read for the beach, in the jungle, remote island or to take with you on your travels this summer.  It would be great for all of you who have already been on the adventure to spread the word to others and leave a star ranking and a few words on Goodreads or Amazon.  It really makes a difference and is much appreciated.

Thank you for being on this novel journey with me!

    Sincerely,

    Eric H. Heisner

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Curio Citizen

      My amazing friends and supporters,

I have good news for you about Curio Citizen!

      .

I have the privilege of working with Matt Harry, Inkshares’ Head of Story Development, as my editor. During the past few weeks, we have discussed my manuscript and decided on a few specific changes to strengthen the book. I am excited to start writing those changes based on Matt’s expert advice, and I know Curio Citizen will be an even better book come publishing time.

Day one of writing those changes was not without distraction. This little Curio showed up in our attic this morning--I’m afraid we will not be integrating him into our society as Carmen wishes the paz would do for her, but something tells me this snake would prefer it that way also.

          .

But I will power through this and any other distractions thrown my way to get Curio Citizen into your hands as soon as possible, and in the best quality possible. Thank you again for all of your support and patience! I will continue to keep you updated as the process continues.

If you or anyone you know would like to pre-order a copy of Curio Citizen, follow this link!

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Lost in the Fog

"How did it get so late so soon? Its night before its afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?"

        - Dr. Seuss

         Aloha All,

It’s almost impossible to believe it’s been over five months since my last update on Lost in the Fog.  But here we are.  Working with a development editor has been an amazing and enriching experience, and my novel will be so much better for it.  But it’s also been mind numbing how long it’s taken me to finish!

If I didn’t have a full-time job that consumed most of my time, I would have completed the final version of Lost the Fog months ago.   I am certain of that.  But of course, that is just a convenient excuse, and I know I could have carved out more minutes, hours, and days to work on it.  Playing the role of Sigmund Freud, maybe there’s some perverse part of me that doesn’t want to be done . . . this is, after all, a book I’ve been working on for more than a decade.  Finally letting go of it is both exciting and terrifying.

But I promise you I will, and very soon.

My editor Caroline completed her second round of edits back in March, and I’ve been working (slowly, as explained previously) on my final version of the manuscript ever since.  This weekend was a big one for me, and I made significant progress.  My goal is to turn Lost in the Fog to Inkshares by the end of the month.

From there we have the final copy edit by the publisher, the galley proof revisions before the book goes to the printer, and the cover art and publication process.  I’m still hoping for late 2018 for you to get your hands on Lost in the Fog, and once I have a better idea of the actual date, you’ll be the first to know.

As always, thank you so much for your support!  Mahalo!

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Tantalus Depths

          It’s away!

So, as most everyone was probably expecting, I did not manage to finish my second development draft of Tantalus Depths within one week, as I had hoped. BUT fortunately it didn’t take anywhere near as long as the first draft did. I have just finished my second development draft of Tantalus Depths and turned it into my editor. Only took two and a half weeks!

So once again, we’re all going to have to wait a little while before he’s able to read through it and give me feedback on this latest draft. Unless there are any significant problems left over after two thorough rounds of development edits, though, we should be able to move right from here to the copy editing stage. We’re really making headway!

Once we do officially enter the copy editing stage, the ball’s really going to start rolling. Shortly after that is when the interior page design and the new cover art will be approved (which I can’t wait for). We’ll also get an official release date around that time too, hopefully. We are well on our way to reaping the benefits of all this hard work and finally holding a real-life, fully-published print copy of Tantalus Depths!

One thing at a time, though. As you’ve undoubtedly noticed by now, no stage in this process moves quickly. I’d say we’re closer to the end than the beginning, but any number of things could happen to set us back, so I’m not going to jinx it. For now, we’re back to the waiting game, as my editor pours over this new draft. That means I’m going to be shifting my attention back to campaigning Proteus once again, and boy, I gotta tell you, missing that extra week and a half of campaign time really did not do my campaign any favors.

Proteus hasn’t had any new pre-orders in two weeks, so we have to make a lot of headway in not a lot of time. We can absolutely do it, but it’s going to take a lot of hard work. As always, please tell all your friends about Proteus and try and get as many of them to pre-order copies as you can. We still need to sell more than 400 copies to get that publishing deal, and we only have until the end of next month to get there. If you have it in your heart to order multiple copies and can afford to do so, that would be absolutely invaluable to the success of the campaign. I already owe you all a tremendous debt for the help you’ve offered in getting Tantalus Depths a publication deal, and for getting Proteus almost halfway to one of its own. I can never express my gratitude to you all for what you’ve done to get us this far.

As soon as I have news about this second draft, you’ll all be the first to know. Meanwhile, back to Proteus I go, and I hope to see you all there!

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for After Death

              To all my patient supporters,

Two weeks ago I received the first round of developmental notes for AFTER DEATH from my editor Matt Harry. For the most part his notes made a lot of sense, and in discussing with him how best to address his concerns I have decided to restructure the novel.

By this I mean that I will take what is currently a three-part story, each part following one incarnation of the protagonist’s soul, and attempt to intercut the lives one chapter at a time. Our hope is that this will result in a draft that is not only tighter, but more surprising, suspenseful, and even more of a mind bender than the book already is.

This will take time, of course, and with every day that passes I am increasingly grateful for your continued patience and support.

In related news, Nerdist founder, comedian, and Talking Dead host Chris Hardwick recently plugged AFTER DEATH on his ID10T podcast! It was incredibly kind of him to do that, and I can’t thank him enough. Click below to check it out!

Not only that, but AFTER DEATH recently received this amazing blurb from J. David Pleins, Ph.D., a writer and teacher whose work has been a huge influence on my own:

"Daniel Lee’s captivating After Death weaves together time travel, zombie apocalypse, epic battles, zen musings, quantum physics, and timeless archetypes. He plays with an array of afterlife concepts — beliefs of different faiths, tales from different mythologies, icons of pop culture — and forges them into a Grand Unified Theory of the afterlife. It’s both a raucous adventure story and a deep-dive into the human soul. If the great mythographer Joseph Campbell wrote a novel, this would be it!"

              — J. David Pleins, Ph.D., author of The Evolving God and Professor of Biblical History, Mythology, Science and Religion at Santa Clara University

Who could ask for a better blurb than that?

Finally, if you’re at all a fan of tabletop games, you probably know that the Kickstarter campaign for Restoration Games’ new reimagining of the classic 1980s board game Fireball Island has been, well, on FIRE. They surpassed their goal within the first hour and have gone on to raise well over $2 million!

The team at Restoration Games, aware of my obsession with the game and that I moderate the /r/fireballisland subreddit, asked me if I’d help promote the campaign by teaming up with The Brothers Murph, the former Dice Tower YouTubers with whom they have a sponsorship agreement, and letting them film one of my infamous Fireball Island Night parties.

They agreed to my terms (a free copy of the game and that I got to plug my book in the video) and the end result is below. It was a ton of fun! Click the image to check it out!

On that note, work on my revisions continues.

I’ve already learned a ton from this experience and made many new friends in the Inkshares community of authors. I’d like to give particular shouts out to my fellow Sci-Fi Contest cohorts Katherine Forrister and Ferd Crôtte, whose books Curio Citizen and Mission 51 won the Nerdist contest alongside me. Of the two I’ve so far only read Curio Citizen, and it is excellent. I highly recommend ordering a copy for yourself.

Thank you again for sticking by me through this process, and for continuing to spread the word and share the link to my book with friends. It seriously means the world to me.

If you don’t already, please follow me on Twitter @dannyboylee.

And until next time, be excellent to each other!

                  Dear all,

It has been a month since the official release of the book. I know that there have been some delays with the international delivery of the books. Though most of the orders have been delivered, if you still haven’t received your hard copies, please tell the publisher about it on hello@inkshares.com, they will check with the courier service and will get it fixed.

I’m starting to receive many good reviews from the readers. It is very pleasing. The book is now 4.73 on Goodreads based on 51 reviews and 4.9 on Amazon.com based on 26 reviews.

When the book gets to 100 reviews, Amazon and Goodreads start to suggest it to readers.

Can I ask you for one small favour?

If you haven’t already done so, could you please put your rating or review on Goodreads and Amazon. It will take just a few minutes. Here are the links:
