Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Mission 51

This is it! We are in the final day of the Nerdist Sci-Fi book publishing contest on Inkshares.

I want to again thank everyone who has pre-ordered Mission 51 and brought us this far. We are still in the running and it’s all because of YOU!

The contest officially ends tonight at 11:59 PM, Pacific Time, so we have about 19 hours to try to stay in the top three and win a FULL publishing package! This includes heavy-duty editing services, production, marketing, and distribution!

Here is where we stand on the leaderboard which as you know has been HOT with activity this past week:

245 for the contestant in 1st place
236 for the contestant in 2nd place
220 for our Mission 51 in 3rd place
206 for the contestant in 4th place

The top three get the same prize. Fourth place gets nothing! All we have to do is stay in the top three!

Contestants are measured by the number of individual people who place a pre-order.

So this is it! If you haven’t yet pre-ordered your ebook or signed copy, this is your chance to do it and help us win a fantastic publishing deal!

If you have, I simply can’t thank you enough! It has been an amazing run so far and YOU are the ones who have made it happen! If I can ask one last thing is to try to find another pre-order somewhere in your list of fabulous friends and family. Let’s launch Mission 51!

THANK YOU!!!!!! :D

Peace!

Ferd

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for The Walls are Closing In

Just a quick note today to let you all know about a contest that is taking place over at Inkshares. If you are a fan of science fiction, you might want to scoot over and check it out.

It is called the Nerdist Sci-Fi Contest, and there are currently 182 submissions that are competing for the top three positions. The prize? A full-fledged publishing contract, sans having to campaign to 750 preorders. For those of you who were along for the ride with me and The Walls are Closing In, you have an idea of what a big deal this is.

Today marks the very end of the contest - it wraps up at midnight tonight. I would like to draw your attention to one book in particular - Mission 51.

Author Ferd Crotte was a very early supporter of The Walls are Closing In, and I would be remiss if I didn’t do everything in my power to help him come out in the TOP 3. Right now he is holding on to 3rd place, but the competition in the top 4 is fierce.

Check out the contest, and consider throwing your support to one of the top contenders. If you referred someone to The Walls are Closing In at some point during the campaign, using a link from the website, then you may have some credits on your account to use.

    Mission 51

After a tragic, fifty light-year voyage, sole survivor Mat crash lands on a beautiful, sometimes hostile alien world ... the planet Earth! Mission 51 is an immigrant story that is out of this world!

    https://www.inkshares.com/books/mission-51

In other news, I have been in contact with the authors who met their publishing goal ahead of me, and many of them are starting the production process. It looks like The Walls are Closing In is moving up the queue and only has one or two books ahead of it that have not started production. I hope to be assigned a developmental editor soon, and along with that assignment should come an estimated release date. My best guess is still late spring/early summer 2018.

I have been racking my brain trying to think of something interactive to do with my marvelous followers here in the interim. And.... I think I have come up with a fun idea that will involve sneak peeks into the story and amusing prizes. Stay tuned!

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for The Slave Prince

      MID-YEAR UPDATE

I’m guessing most of you, at this point of time, might’ve completely forgotten about my book. Which is fine by me - a blessing, in fact. However, I don’t want to take your patience for granted. So thank you for waiting. Thank you for understanding. And thank you for, as odd as this might sound, the silence.

Since I’m writing today, you’re probably wondering if there’s good news. Alas, I write this update simply to say I’m still waiting. I submitted my manuscript and all the related documents on March 31st. Since then, I’ve decided to trust that The Slave Prince will start production in its own perfect timing. Silly, I know. What kind of gullible faith is that? However, I choose to believe that the day The Slave Prince is made, is the right day for it to be made. I don’t know when that will be - it could be in 2018 (I hope) - but I believe.

Recently, I wrote a blog post about the perfect timing. It’s sort of my life’s motto (you can read the whole post here: https://jeynagrace.wordpress.com/2017/06/01/the-perfect-timing/). Naturally, I approach this novel with the same mindset. Since it took 3 years to find the right place for The Slave Prince, what’s a few more years? At the end of the day, The Slave Prince is simply a part of my writing journey - it isn’t the finish line.

With all that said, I hope you’ll continue to wait with me. I truly appreciate all you’ve done - supporting the book during the contest, and post-contest with your syndicates (those were such pleasant surprises). I’m looking forward to the day I present you with my book. But until then, believe with me - its perfect time will come.

Hello friends and other assorted sentient beings,

If you’re getting this, then it’s entirely likely that you’ve also received an email or two (or three) announcing that the sequel to The Life Engineered, Arch-Android, is now live for pre-order! Exciting!

        Except that it’s not.

        "Aww..."

No, don’t be sad! Or be sad. Practice your human emotions. That’s okay too, but rest assured that this was not a mistake. I fully intended on having Arch-Android be taking pre-orders today. Unfortunately, there’s a problem with the system and being the weekend, it’s a little difficult to ask Inkshares to fix it post-haste.

They’ll get to it though and we’ll repair the machine and we’ll be up and running soon enough. I’ll send you an update just like this one once we’ve tamed the code that is preventing us from moving forward.

Thank you for your support and I’ll be talking to you real soon.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Curio Citizen

          Hello again!

Guess what? We only need 10 more orders to hit the 200 readers mark! That would be an amazing accomplishment. It would also help Curio Citizen keep hold of 1st place! You all have done so much for me already, and I am so grateful. I hate to ask more of you, but there are 4 days left in the contest, so please help me make the final push towards finishing in the top 3 by asking another family member or friend to pre-order a copy. Only $10 could change my life forever! I also have more followers than I do pre-orders, so please consider pre-ordering if you haven’t already. It would mean so much to me! Remember, the deadline for pre-orders has been changed to this Tuesday, June 27th!

Click HERE to pre-order Curio Citizen.

And here’s today’s look into the world of Curio Citizen:

Marea Reúnen is Inquieto’s aristocratic mother. She came from a wealthy family and succeeded in her schooling and career well enough to maintain some semblance of the wealth she once enjoyed. Because of this and her high intelligence, even by paz standards, she has a slightly superior attitude towards others. She tempers that attitude most of the time, but it comes out full force when Carmen becomes involved in her son’s life.

Marea is a high-up employee of the Understand, the planet’s most vital scientific research center. On a planet where the dominant species values intelligence above all other traits (aside from peace), paz as intelligent as Marea are granted a level of respect and wealth that appropriately corresponds to the great mental aptitude and time it takes to perform such vigorous research.

Marea does indeed spend a good deal of her time at the Understand. She is working on something secret, something big, which she can’t discuss with anyone--not even her own family.

          --------

“Ah, everyone’s here,” she said pleasantly in a smooth voice. She, too, was dressed in black, but a lustrous amber sash covered most of her clothing, along with a mesh of amber swathing her bald head, which she lowered as she scanned the gathering.

“Marea,” Oyente said. “Excellent timing. Dinner is set to be ready in a few minutes.”

“Yes,” Marea said in acknowledgement, but her attention was focused on me. I stood, getting the distinct impression she did not want me dirtying her furniture.

          ---------

“Tell us a little about your planet,” Aliado requested.

I noticed both Oyente and Marea tense a little at his words. They exchanged a look of disapproval tinged with nerves.

“It’s surprisingly similar to Paz,” I said, truthfully. “The soil, the trees, the blue sky, the yellow sun. The people.” I looked straight at Marea at the last.

“So similar,” said Aliado. “That’s odd, isn’t it?”

I turned my eyes to him. “Yes,” I said, meeting his pointed intrigue with my own. “It is.”

“And,” Marea spoke, light and thin, “how are humans like paz?”

I took a quiet breath and floated my gaze across the table. Her heavy black eyes studied me while her hand lightly clutched a delicate glass, her full lips curled in an aristocratic smile.

“Can you not see?” I asked. Her eyes brightened, but their light was not internal, only a reflection of the dying sun.

          -------

Thank you so much for your continued support. You have all done so much for me already, and I am incredibly grateful. 4 more days and hopefully we’ll see this book published! The deadline is Tuesday, June 27th.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Curio Citizen

            Hello my dear followers!

I am thrilled to announce that Curio Citizen currently holds 1st place! But some interesting news was thrown our way yesterday. From the beginning, there has been a disconnect between the contest ending date--on the official rules, it stated June 27th was the ending date, but on the site settings, June 25th had been programmed as the ending day. I operated under the assumption that the 25th was the ending date, but it turns out, June 27th IS the actual end date for the contest.

Why does this matter? It gives the competition two extra days to gather pre-orders and potentially overtake us. We have a good lead as it now stands, but that could change at any moment. Five days is a lot longer than three when every contestant is bringing in more orders every day. I will need your help to keep me in the top 3 spots and get published!

Please ask at least one other person to pre-order my book and help them find the site and place the order. You all have been so amazing, and we are almost there! Please help me win this contest in these final days. The deadline is now June 27th at 11:59pm. Any individual orders from separate email addresses placed before then will count towards the contest!

Just $10 could truly change my daughter’s life and mine. Please consider helping us so we can find our feet, and I can start a career that will support us. Plus, you get a fantastic sci-fi novel (if I do say so myself, haha :P )

Thank you again! Click HERE to pre-order a copy of Curio Citizen.

And for all you awesome sci-fi fans, here is today’s look into the world of Curio Citizen:

            Paz Economics:

As described before, the paz are inherently peaceful, and, as expected, have established a peaceful, planet-wide society. Part of what makes such peace possible is their structured economic standards.

            ’
Their money is called "din" and is stored on triangular cards.

While different levels of wealth exist on Paz, every child, no matter how wealthy or poor a family they come from, is given the same education and opportunities. Following their education, they choose a field of study which interests them and pursue it as a career. Once in that career, salary, promotional steps, and pay raises are all standardized for each job planet-wide. Pay for each job is based on the level of time and aptitude it requires. The Council of Careers is the primary division of government that handles these decisions and makes relevant policies.

In addition, the minimum wage on Paz is a true, livable wage. Those who cannot work or are otherwise in need are cared for monetarily by the government.

The setup sounds ideal to Carmen, but she is left to wonder if a structure like that would actually work with humans involved--or if it is really as perfect as it seems on Paz.

            --

"’But, surely there are favors given, backhanded dealings,’ I prompted. ’You can’t really believe everyone lives in perfect honesty and integrity in that situation. And don’t some people get upset or jealous if they don’t get the career they want? What happens if they fail the tests and have to be a garbage collector or something?’

Inquieto seemed confused by my logic. ’If someone fails the tests, then yes, they are usually disappointed, but they process their emotions and move on. Most find contentment in their new career because it is better suited to their abilities.’

He then frowned in consternation. ’And as for backhanded dealings, no, of course not. That would ultimately lead to more trouble than it was worth. Everyone knows that. It’s common sense. Who would want to cause that much trouble?’

’Are you really so naive?’ I asked, unable to hold my tongue.

’Do you truly think so darkly?’ he asked, greatly troubled.

’I—’ I uttered. ’To believe everyone is peaceful and perfect—that’s not dark thinking, it’s just a reality of life.’

’On Earth, perhaps,’ he said uncertainly."

              250 PRE-ORDERS!

              Aloha All,

I’m very excited to announce my novel Lost in the Fog has received over 250 pre-orders (261 and counting) and will now be published by Inkshares!  Thank you so much for your support, and I cannot even begin to express how grateful I am!

I’m also thrilled to report this is (hopefully) just the first step for Lost in the Fog.  Inkshares is sponsoring their Launch Pad Contest, and I’m officially entered.  It started April 1st and goes until November 4th, and the top three books on the basis of unique pre-orders will be automatic winners.  For more on the contest, you can click here.

All Launch Pad winners will receive full marketing/promotion/editing, and their novels will be sold in brick-and-mortar bookstores!  With the 250 pre-orders, I’m only guaranteed Lost in the Fog will be published and available to purchase online, but without any promotion and only basic copy editing. That is cool in itself and a huge accomplishment, and I’m super happy to have reached that goal.

But being a Launch Pad Contest winner would be a dream come true!  Not only will Lost in the Fog get full publishing and promotion, there’s also top talent agencies  (including UTA & Paradigm) and production companies (such as Village Road Show & 3 Arts Entertainment) involved in the contest.   I’m currently in second place on the leaderboard out of 116 submissions.  That’s very exciting, but there’s still a long way to go.

The goal now is for new readers to keep pre-ordering so I can cement Top 3!

You are all the absolute best, and thanks again from the bottom, top, and (gooey) center of my heart for your support!  If you think any of your family or friends or work colleagues would enjoy Lost in the Fog, I would be very grateful if you shared the link with them via email or text:

              https://www.inkshares.com/books/lost-in-the-fog

With the first goal of 250 pre-orders complete, Top 3 in the Launch Pad Contest is in now in our sights!  Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo!!

Here’s a picture of me on Maui (on my birthday this past weekend) celebrating 250 pre-orders.  😊

Dear Kind Supporters of Derric’s Book:

It’s a good news, bad news sort of update.

The good news is that because time is running out on the pre-order campaign, you’re going to get a refund! The bad news is that, for now anyway, Derric’s book will be on hold. It’s my fault, don’t blame Derric! -- just not enough time, it turned out, to devote to a full court press on pre-orders, but one more piece of good news -- Derric’s story still will mostly likely find its way, and his Facebook page will continue to be updated regularly.

Oh, and if you still want to read a book and help the Beagle Freedom Project, don’t forget that I still donate 10% of all royalties from "Women Like Us" to BFP. You can buy and read that book today so here’s the link if ya need it!

If for some reason you don’t see a credit from Inkshares sometime soon after today when the campaign ends, shoot an email to hello@inkshares.com. You’ll probably get a kind person named Elena and she will make sure it gets done. Alternatively, let me know and I’ll bug them.

Thanks again for the early support. From Derric too!! And sorry we couldn’t make it happen this time around.

                Best,

                Jason and Derric
