Donna Litt created a forum thread: Name in the back of the book - what does that look like?
Can anyone provide an example of what it looks like to see someone’s name in the back of their book?

To help explain, I’m referring to when someone purchases enough paperback copies that they get their name included (see copy below):

  • YOUR NAME IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK
  • MULTIPLE SIGNED PAPERBACK COPIES
  • AN EBOOK
  • ACCESS TO DRAFTS AND UPDATES FROM THE AUTHOR
I’m wondering whether every book contains a single list, or a person’s name is printed on an individual unit basis.

Does this still apply for Quill books?

Thank you :)

Donna Litt liked an update for Wings of the Pirate

Well, nothing much new on the "Wings of the Pirate" front.  I finished another polish on the manuscript and am waiting for the final chapter-head illustrations from my Artist pal Al Bringas.  He has done a fantastic job with them all and I can’t wait to show you all when the book comes out next year.

If you’re up for reading a bit more of my non-Western stuff, I put up another novel project of mine "Africa Tusk" which I have completed the first draft on.  It deals with the fight against elephant poachers in Africa and the possibility of using drones...

Have a wonderful Holiday Season, I will be updating you more in 2017!

Cheers!!

Donna Litt liked an update for Fae Child

    Hello Readers and Followers!

This is just a short update to let you know that I have chosen to extend the Fae Child campaign one more time. Instead of ending on December 31st, I will be on this crowdfunding rollercoaster through the end of February. Fae Child has been getting some good buzz on Inkshares in the syndicates, and I want to be able to capitalize on that and give myself some space after the holidays are over to pull in more orders. We are very close to 100 orders, and it’s just a hop and a skip from that to 250. Okay, okay, it’s a little more than that, but I really think we can do it together, and I really believe in this book. Picture Fae Child as The Little Book That Could, and we’re chug-chugging up Preorder Mountain. Thank you so much for your support, and your patience.

Donna Litt liked an update for I Am Waltz

      Hello Readers & Friends,

A BIG update. I Am Waltz has officially finished the developmental edit and is now with the copy editors at the publisher. The time is rapidly approaching now and books will be on there way sooner than later. The timeline provided by the publisher for this is a few months, so I hope everyone will get their books during the spring.

For those with signed paperbacks, the books will first be sent to me to sign, then the publisher will send them out to you all.

Thank you all again for your continued support and I hope you all love I Am Waltz when you get it.

Soon I will begin working on the sequel to this book and as promised all early adopters of I Am Waltz will be purvey to unique insight and tidbits/early drafts or the sequel.

      -Love, Matt

Awesome video, thanks for posting. :) I’m also really curious to know if anyone has advice re: branching out to other forms of publicity other than your own social media circles, friends-of-friends, and Inkshares friends. Blogs, Reddit, etc? Would love to see a feature about that or hear about what others have done!

Donna Litt liked an update for Kill Creek

          Followers of Kill Creek!

Wanted to give you a quick update...

I’m now 45 days into my 90 day pre-order period, and thanks to some generous orders today, I’ve reached 50% of my Quill goal!  Thanks to everyone who has pre-ordered.  Your support means a lot.  I still have 45 days to reach 250 pre-orders and ensure that Kill Creek gets published, but with the holidays coming up, that time is going to go quickly.  So if you know anyone who might enjoy a get-under-your-skin, sh*t-hits-the-fan, character-driven, hatchet-to-the-mouth, Kansas-set ghost story, please encourage them to pre-order a copy before my time is up!

Also if you’d like a little more info about the genesis of Kill Creek and/or a photo of me looking like The Edge from U2, check out this article: http://www.kansan.com/arts_and_culture/alumnus-aims-to-publish-horror-novel-through-crowdfunding/article_5f341010-b85b-11e6-8ee6-f78ca44d4f2f.html

          Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

Donna Litt liked the forum thread, Inkshares vs. The Others
Each of the platforms has a slightly different take.
Unbound requires you to submit your manuscript, after which they review it and put it up for a campaign if it passes their initial assessment. If you are successful Unbound publishes you.
Inkshares lets you start immediately and do your thing, even if you don’t have a finished manuscript. If you are successful in your campaign, Inkshares publishes you.
Publishizer lets you start with a proposal and crowdfund, but they don’t acutally publish you. They connect you with other publishers (who will want to talk to you — hopefully — if your campaign is successful).

Pros and cons of each. I don’t know as much about publishzer, but at first glance it isn’t as appealing to me. Unbound is a good option, if you have a completed manuscript read to go.

For all of them, you need to get organised before starting a campaign and you need to attack it methodically. Any campaign, on any platform, is going to be hard work.

Donna Litt liked an update for Where the Sun Sets

It’s been 9 days since I sent my last update, and a lot has happened since then. Remember Nico Rosberg, the F1 driver who trounced Lewis Hamilton in the final race of the season?

              HE RETIRED!

TOTAL PLOT TWIST! (I called it, by the way.) (Just ask Michael, my husband. He knows that I predict the future.) A new world champion was crowned, he got his cake, and then ate it for all the world to see. Cheers to you, Nico Rosberg. Because I’m eating cake this December, too.

              Allow me to explain.

For those of you that don’t already know: I’m sentimental. With pretty much everything. Case in point, I carry a personal museum of baubles and trinkets with me everywhere I go. Peeking out from my closet is a vast collection of drawings and scraps of paper that people gave me in preschool. Preschool. Which makes be a bona fide sentimental hoarder because I’ve moved a gagillion times since preschool. So it shouldn’t come as a shock that my favourite stories are the ones that have some special, hidden meaning.

Where the Sun Sets is one such special story. And a special story needs a special cover. So I decided to launch a contest to find one. I put the book cover contest to my network (not many artists, few professional designers, lots of family that can’t de-friend me) and told myself to be patient. "Draw up a plan, pull the trigger, and trust in the process." Right?

              Sort of.

For the past few weeks I’ve been biting my nails, wondering if what I did was the right thing. I am trying to create a product that needs to sell, after all. Worries haunted. What if no one submits a thing? What if I detest them all? (I was more concerned with the first looming question because I’m generally easy to please, and I love a funny story.)

The submission period closed on Sunday, December 4. I got 19 submissions, and I love them all! (In fact, I love some them so much that I suspect I’ll soon have dreams of eating cake off of them.) More importantly, knowing that the cover of Where the Sun Sets has been crafted by someone special to me is a huge relief. It’s an incredible feeling. And the reasons each of the entrants shared about why they entered are equally touching.

So now it’s Show Time. Literally. I’m showing them to you, and asking that you help me select the one that best fits Where the Sun Sets. Because, frankly speaking, if it were left up to me, I’d choose them all. Which just isn’t practical.

You can view the entries and pick one here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3LXR6CC I believe you’ll find them all to be unique and delightful in their own way.

              See what I mean?

              Absolutely delightful!

The voting period ends this Sunday, and I can’t wait to reveal the final cover. That said, the cover will only make it onto a book if I hit my pre-order target.

              I’m at 180 as I type this, which means I’m 70 pre-orders short!

You’re receiving this update because you’ve already put yourself out there for me, and I thank you for it. But I’m not quite there yet. So I ask that you please continue to send me well wishes, and consider recommending or sharing my story with those people you think would find it meaningful. I know it’s a lot to ask (and to keep asking) but every little bit helps and I won’t get there without you.

Thank you for your consideration. Thank you for your time. And thank you for your continued support.
