Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for The Remains Of Civilization

Hey folks,

I should've put out this update a long long time ago. Now that I had officially missed Christmas, New Year and even my birthday put out this update, I feel like I'm just making excuses to not put any updates at this point. Nw year resolution #1: do reader updates more frequently.

We officially have 66 preorders now! That's the equivalent of 314 cups of Starbucks coffee! Thanks to all the people that had came here and bought my book, I cannot express my gratitude enough. Only 6 months ago, I had been a nobody hack writer that no one knows.

I now have quickly become a name in community and met (digitally) many great writers such as John Robin, J.F. Dubeau, Paul Inman, Cara Weston (the lady who made Review-a-thon possible), Thomas Arnold, and many more. They're the pillars of the community and had been here to help others to make their dreams come true.

If any of the people I had mentioned above happened to be reading this, happy new year and keep on keeping on. It's because of this community that I gained confidence in my writing, started a YouTube channel and had one of the best years in my life.

The New Year had came and went, but when I reflected on the things I had done last year, I saw the ripples that I had metaphorically made. I wouldn't brag, but I saw beyond my book. I had become a contributor to John Robin's blog, and had done a lot of things beyond just typing words. I never regretted a single moment of last year, and I hope that things get better from here on out. Let's see how far my ambitions can take me.

Sincerely,

Yicheng Liu

Die-hard Rebels, Royal Citizens prepare yourselves for an update!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Best wishes for a happy and successful 2016 to everyone.

Despite the holiday whirlwind of family activities, Finn and I have still managed to continue work on the project. Hampered by our mutual bah humbug attitude to social media, we have nevertheless managed to do mysterious electronic things in Facebook, Twitter, and Google plus. Not sure if any of it is working just yet, but we are doing them. We might not be doing them well, but hey, baby steps.

We did manage to get that Author interview up and running. You can check it out HERE and while you are there, investigate Melanie's Starwalker web-series. It's good stuff.

There was also another mini-project we did and attempted to upload to the Suffrage project page.  It looks like we did everything correctly, but the book trailer is not displaying on the project page. Razza frazza. We did manage to upload the trailer onto the Facebook page and the Google plus community page, and Snake tweeted about it. See baby steps...

So for all of you backers and readers... please enjoy OUR FABULOUS NEW BOOK TRAILER. Share it around on social media (I'm sure you'll do a much better job than us), and tell us what you think of it.

That's all for now, back to the editing process.

We did it! We hit 70 orders!  Time for the next raffle! *Cracks knuckles and pulls out the random number generator.*

Congrats to...Joe Terzieva!  You've won a signed copy of Shadow of the Owl!

We had six orders today, so that's only two more until we break my daily record for most orders.  Can we do it before midnight?  If so I'll raffle off another book as a reward to all you nice folks who have supported DHM.

And I'm making a slight change to the next raffle and those going forward: Since the Sword & Laser The Sequel contest runs off of unique orders, I figure it's a good idea to run my raffle that way.  So I will do my next drawing at 70 backers, and then the next at 80.  That's only six people away, which is all the better for those of you who have already backed.  It means you get another shot at a signed book that much sooner.

If you know anyone who would enjoy the book please share Deus Hex Machina with them.

Thanks and I hope to be talking to you again real soon!

We're at only 20 days to go before the 1/22 funding end date.  At 257 followers and only 63 of those who've ordered(for a total of 67 books ordered) the Quill goal of 250 is easily within reach, but only if those of you who haven't ordered go ahead and do so.  If you're reading this just take a moment to check and see if you've ordered, and if you haven't then place your order as soon as possible.  Take the advice given on episode 9 of the Writebrain podcast by J.F. Dubeau and Paul Inman.  My thanks go with you.

I was also inspired by that episode of the podcast to give a little bit of a pronunciation guide here.  The first thing to remember when trying to pronounce a name in my books is to do it however you want to, I'm not gonna complain.  For those of you who are curious about how I pronounce some of the names though, I'll post up 6 here.

Magus:  may'Gus(as in the oh so manly name)

Buscidia:  Boo'sid'eee'ah, or Boo'sid'ya when I'm feeling my southern roots more.  Also, this name was created as an alteration of Boudicae, the Celtic queen who gave the Romans a bit to fear for their crimes against her and her family.  To reflect Buscidia's Zaltruscan heritage though I made it a point to somewhat Roman-ify her name, though, since the Roman empire is one of my chief inspirations for the Zaltruscans.

        Quelzhumi Taehls:  kwell'zoo'me tay-ells

        D'naeshira:  duh'nie'sheer'ah or sometimes duh'na'uh'sheer'ah

Kitden Zutden:  kit'den zoot'den... probably didn't need to bother with that one, but I love my wild gnome prankster.

Laohna:  lay'oe'nah  (similarly Tesuna is tee'soo'nah, sneaky number 7 there)

It is a Saturday update, so that means mentioning the new content I'm posting up.  This week we get to leave book 2(Exile, Hunted) and return to Exile, Magus.  This time I'll be posting up section 1 of Chapter 6, so a bit of the cliffhanger ending of Chapter 5 gets alleviated.  This is one of my "nonstop action" chapters though, giving insight into the characters through the pressure cooker that is their 3-pronged raid on a Zaltruscan slaver camp.  As such its really trading one cliffhanger for another as the raid plays out over the first 4 sections of this Chapter.  Anyway, enough of my rambling on it.  Enjoy getting to watch some Wilder Elves, Buscidia, as well as Pentaz and his fellow students from Laohna's magic Academy get a real test of their skills.

That's all I've got for this update.  If you haven't ordered, go ahead and do so because I really want this book in all of your hands, whether its in paperback or on e-reader.  Thanks for your time and support, and enjoy the rest of your first weekend of the year.
