Hi everyone!
I know it’s been a while since my last update. Lots going on, have some big decisions to make coming up here, lots of changes planned. Anyway, to be honest, I am not sure how The Dare will do on Inkshares. I am not going to give up on getting it to publishing though. I’m not quitting on this book by any means, it’s just going to be a process! I am currently working on a new book, little different than The Dare, but just as much fun to be writing it! I’ve created my own creature and it has been a blast figuring out this diabolical new villain!!! I’ve been putting sneak peaks of it on my Instagram page. :) I am also putting ideas onto paper for a sequel to The Dare. Since I don’t know what ending I will use for The Dare (there are two), the sequel for now is just scribble on a page. (But that’s how it all starts right?!) Figured I may as well keep on with my writing while I see where The Dare will end up! I can’t help it, I love to write!
I just wanted to touch base with everyone and say hi, hope you all are doing well! I am beyond thankful and grateful for your support and your pre-orders, it means so much to me! I will keep the updates going as I can. I hope you all have a wonderful day!
Friday, October 5th, 7-9 PM at The Book Cellar in Chicago for THE ANIMAL IN MAN LAUNCH EVENT!!!
What better way to celebrate this announcement than with some new character concept art? Fresh from the digital canvas of the super-talented Nic Morales, may I introduce you to Zariel, also called “Old Four Swords,” and I think you can easily see why.
Zariel is a genetically engineered octopus, hailing from Peskora, the tropical archipelagian nation far to the west where vast numbers of aquatic species dwell. Each of the four swords he wields are a technological marvel, capable of cutting any material clean in half, no matter its molecular composition. There is, in fact, a moment or two in The Animal in Man Part Two: Ferocious Heart when the lone octopus literally brings about the collapse of a tower.
Do you like this art? Did you like Nic’s previous concept for Saghan? Would you like a chance to have a signed poster of this thing hanging up in your office? From now until October 5th, all you have to do is make an order of The Animal in Man: Violent Mind or show up for the launch event at The Book Cellar to enter in person for a chance to win these!
Find me (and the event) on facebook, Follow me on Twitter, Follow both The Animal in Man Part One and Two on Inkshares!
Greetings!
As most of you know, The Sleeping Man has made it into your hands via physical copy or ebook and I’ve been trying to keep up with the wonderful words that have been pouring in. I’m working on some promotional events near the San Diego area, but one of the best things that could happen would be to increase the number of Amazon reviews. Once you’ve finished reading the book, I would like to ask you to head over there and leave a review.
It’s been a long process to release The Sleeping Man, and while I have been working on transitioning out of the Navy I have not been idle. In point of fact, I’ve worked out the larger points of the next two books, though I’m holding back on the titles at the moment. Thank you, thank you, and thank you. This is a dream come true.
Still smiling,
Stephen Carignan
SPACE CREW. You’re all rad humans who deserve a post-launch update.
First: you should be getting your prizes. The last of them shipped out last week. If you were part of the Space Fleet, one of the top recommenders, or won one of the other giveaways during the campaign, you should have goodies soon. If you don’t see them by the end of next week, hit me up and we’ll figure it out.
Second: Toronto, I’m coming at you. I’ll be setting up a table at Ad Astra July 13-15. If you’re in the area, come say hi. Plus, there’ll be many other scifi goodies, and you’ll have a chance to meet Ed Greenwood, Robert J. Sawyer, Maria V Snyder, and more cool authorly folks.
Third: TTC could use some reviews. I’d prefer not to ask, but there’s some exciting news on the horizon, and seeing a few gold stars on Amazon will only help. If you’ve read the book--especially if you liked it--please take a minute to review on Amazon (US) or Amazon (CAN).
Thanks for being a solid crew.
Your Sizzlin’ Space Cap,

Ladies and gentlemen, I have a huge announcement for Tantalus Depths!
Last week, my development editor, Matt Harry, sent me his notes on my last draft of Tantalus Depths. They were sparse this time and easy to address, so I made pretty short work of them. Last night I submitted my third full draft with the new changes added, and Matt gave this draft his seal of approval. We are officially done with the development edit stage!
So what does that mean? Well, for the moment it means we wait. In case you hadn’t gathered by now, the editing process is very much a “hurry up and wait” kind of deal. There is a queue for the copy editing stage, I’ve been told by the Inkshares staff that my copy edits probably won’t start for a month or so.
That might seem like a bummer, but it’s not. Once the copy editing begins, the gears start spinning a lot faster. I’ll be given a full production schedule, and we’ll finally be put on a set time table, with hard deadlines. We are almost at the top of the roller coaster now, and when we get over this hill, we’re going to seriously move.
I’m personally grateful for this downtime, for one very specific reason: Proteus.
I’ve had Proteus’s campaign extended one more time, and it now runs until the end of August. I didn’t want to, but we were down to just under two weeks to go and about 270 orders to go, so there’s just no way I was going to be able to hit that goal without driving myself insane. Fortunately, with the extension, I should absolutely be able to finish funding Proteus on time, and with this gap between Tantalus Depths’ editing phases, I should be able to finish the Proteus campaign before Tantalus Depths goes to the next stage of edits. I’ll finally be able to give Tantalus Depths my full attention during one of the craziest parts of the editing process.
The development editing process for Tantalus Depths was stressful, but absolutely worthwhile. I can’t wait to see what the next few steps in this process are like, or to see the finished product that is steadily creeping closer. Thank you all so much for supporting me this far. I know it’s often felt like nothing is moving anywhere, but fortunately I can say we’ve made major progress getting through this stage.
Greetings hexers and machina jockeys,
Today emails are going out with the ebooks of Sister of the Circuit. By now everyone who ordered physical copies should have them in their hands, which means Isidore and Dax, Surge and Evite are ready to sear your eyeballs with their adventures.
It’s a surreal day.
For my part I have been working with the amazingly talented Jill Crenshaw, finalizing the audiobook. My plan is to have that launch on July 3rd along with the paperback and ebook publication date (you know, for people who aren’t awesome backers like you). If you’re the sort of person who likes your books read to you, it will be available on Audible and I’ll send out a link when it’s ready.
If you’re a fan of reviewing things, would you mind reviewing the book once you’ve read it? Every voice talking about Sister of the Circuit on Amazon, Goodreads, iTunes, whatever, is a huge help.
Thank you so much for your support, and have a great weekend.
Hello everyone!
I got notes that the download link didn’t work for some and that others didn’t get an update at all. If the download link didn’t work for you, please send me a message or email at kaytalinplatt@gmail.com.
If you are just receiving this update and have no idea what I’m talking about, I sent the raw manuscript out to supporters yesterday as a preview to the finished book. I you would like the raw manuscript and did no receive a download link, please follow the directions above!
Thanks!
Hey Everyone!!
Thank you so much for supporting The Living God. We are close to the release of the book (September 4th for supporters), where the fully edited and produced version will be in your hands. In the mean time, though, I’d like to share with you the version of the manuscript that was turned in before copy-editing. This is an incomplete version of the book, but I’m giving it to you as a sneak peek for those who are eager to read it. If you do get a chance to read, please look over the errors as this version had not seen a copy editor yet. Also, please remember to review on Amazon and GoodReads!

Hello Knightmares!
The Knightmares has officially begun production! Mark your calendars for October 16th!
IMPORTANT: If you have moved since preordering a book, please log into your Inkshares account and update your address! Otherwise, you will not receive your book!
The editing process has been going smoothly, and I feel it has helped make the book an overall better product. It has allowed me to take a step away and reevaluate what I want this story to be. The product you will receive is the best version of this story I have to offer, and I am excited, terrified, anxious, and relieved to get it out to its audience.
I hope you enjoy!
