The book cover is finalized and it is excellent! Will update after the next and FINAL Screenwriting tip!

SCREENWRITING TIP #6: The Scene

You should treat every scene as you do the whole piece – meaning that you should outline the scene you are about to do, examine it to see if you have three acts (a beginning, middle and end).  Sometimes you can eliminate the first or last act if the audience has been given enough information so that they can fill in the empty space.  Be sure that there is some kind of conflict and that the character and/or the plot is being fulfilled, meaning that the little red dot of your outline is addressed.

If you are having trouble with the scene, my usual tactic is to write the most obvious scene I can create.  The process of writing it raises the obvious question of why this is a cliché and may lead to a way to find a new angle, a way of approaching the scene that will give it some vitality.  You will always run into the problem of exposition.  It usually bore the hell out of the audience.  First, make sure that this information is really needed.  If so try to find a way to distract the audience from the fact that you are unloaded straight plot data.  One way is to put some action in the scene, watch the first “Terminator” and see how Cameron masterfully does this.

Comedy is also a good bit of camouflage.  Use a subplot from one of the minor character that you can intercut with the information, an argument between the characters is also a good gambit.  Keep the scenes short and sweet.  Every scene should be good enough to be used at a clip for the Oscars.  If not, try to cut it or make it better.  You might not achieve this goal every time but aim for it.

    Readers,

THIS IS IT. TODAY IS THE LAST DAY.

Today is the day that funding for Lucky ends. This is your last chance to order a copy and boost our numbers towards the fully funded mark of 750. We are depressingly far behind that number right now, so unless all of you have 50 friends who will also buy a copy of the book before midnight, we’re not going to make it.

I have applied for a funding extension from the Inkshares Overlords in hopes of being able to meet the 750 goal, but as of the sending of this update I have not received a reply, either positive or negative. I am hoping for a positive outcome, but at this point it’s just a hope.

I have completed editing Chapters 9 and 10 and have begun the creation of an all-new, shiny Chapter 11. I already had a Chapter 11, but it skipped farther ahead in the story than it should have, so I’m renumbering and redistributing the characters and plot developments for a better pace.

I’d like to add that I have gathered many valuable insights from this funding journey with Inkshares: I feel that storytelling could be considered my "calling" in life. Even though I’m primarily focused on finishing and publishing this novel, I have a bunch of other stories in the back of my head clamoring to be let out. It’s exciting beyond belief and I look forward to being able to share these stories with you in the future.

Again, thank you all for your undying and unwavering support of Lucky. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue into the publishing process.

Tony Valdez liked an update for The Amaranth Chronicles: Deviant Rising

The Amaranth Chronicles has always been more to me then just a little novel. To it’s an entire universe as rich and diverse and exciting as any mainstream Sci-Fi phenomenon and why shouldn’t it be? My mind helped will it.

With the Inkshares campaign coming to an end this week we’re still 50 or so Pre-orders short from getting published. It’s been a long and exhausting journey making it this far but should we not make it to our Quill goal I have an unrelenting faith that this is not the end of Chris and I’s Sci-Fi universe. After all, it would be a shame if the kids didn’t get to play with the toy line. ;)
