Robert Batten liked an update for The Slave Prince
Frequently Asked Questions

Apologies for the radio silence! It’s about time I said something. And I believe some of you might have questions in regards to the book, so I thought of answering the common ones today. If you have any further questions, you can find me on Facebook and Twitter. Feel free to ask away on those platforms.

1. What’s the next step for The Slave Prince?
Having spoken with Inkshares a few weeks ago, nothing is set in stone yet. But when the book production launches, hopefully soon, the manuscript will be submitted for developmental editing.

2. When will I get the book? There’s a possibility that Inkshares might be able to include The Slave Prince in their Fall 2017 catalogue. If they do, the book will be out in time for next Christmas! And you know what makes awesome Christmas gifts? Books!

3. What is your royalty share from all the pre-orders made during the contest period?Nil. I do not make any royalties. All the funds collected from the pre-orders you made will be used to subsidize the cost of the book’s publication.

4. How many words is The Slave Prince? The final manuscript draft sits at approximately 65,000 words.

5. Why is the book cheaper after the campaign? The book is cheaper because the campaign is targeted at raising funds while selling copies at the same time. The amount is higher to lighten the publication cost.

6. Can I still pre-order The Slave Prince?
Of course, you can. Pre-order as many as you want! Pre-order now, so that when the book is ready, it’ll be shipped to you immediately! You can also pre-order as a gift, by having it shipped to your friend.

7. Can I get a discount?
Unfortunately not on The Slave Prince. But you know what? The Battle for Oz is on sale from now till December 16th! You can get the book at a 50% discount, with free shipping within the US. Oh, and the cover is green - it’ll look awesome under that Christmas tree of yours.

I hope I answered most of you in this update. If you have any more questions, please reach out to me. Thank you once again for your support in my writing endeavours. And for all those celebrating thanksgiving, happy holidays!

Robert Batten liked an update for Ghosts of War

Okay, update time. A short-ish one.

No calendar chart today, mainly because there was nothing new to put on it over last weeks.

Everything was rather disrupted again this week, must be the time of year. One thing I did find the time to do however, was to listen to the entirety of my book over a couple of days.

    Yes. Listen.

Now it may have been with my Mac’s automatic text-to-speech through Scrivener, but it was overall a pretty good experience. The most surprising part of it all was that I actually found myself entertained by my own writing. There were small comedy moments that I’d forgotten I’d written that I actually laughed at. So I think that’s encouraging? Right?

I also realised that structurally, I’m really solidly pleased with the second half of the book. There are a few kinks to work out on the front end, but overall there’s not as much hardcore editing/rewriting to do as I thought. Which is good.

Work is back to focusing on Ghosts again this week, LandFall has hit a bit of a snag which has it in a form of limbo. Hopefully, it will get sorted soon.

    Until next time.

Robert Batten liked an update for Tantalus Depths

At long last, an update on the progress of things! Tantalus Depths is officially 100% funded, and I am so, so thankful for that. I couldn’t have possibly managed any of this without your extensive help. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making this happen. So what’s next?

Watch the vlog for details, but here’s the summarized version: I’m working on my final round of edits before I send Inkshares my finished manuscript. There’ll be a wait before they can pair me up with an editor and put me into the production process, and the entire process could take quite a while. But we’re on our way, and the greatest obstacles are well behind us now. Happy Thanksgiving to all, and congratulations to Kelly Miloro for winning my "name-a-planet promotion" thing. You’ve earned it :)

Robert Batten liked an update for Shadow King

        Hello everyone!

First, I’d like to wish all of you who live in the U.S. a very happy Thanksgiving. Hope you all had a wonderful day.

A lot of exciting things going on -- I’m thrilled to let you all know that "Shadow King" was included in The Launchpad’s "Top Ten" finalists list. I’m excited and honored to be there and looking forward to finding out who the final winners are.

For the Inkshares prize, you’ve all helped me make some great progress this past week or so, and I saw "Shadow King" go from 6th to 4th and back a little again. Now that the holiday is behind me, I’m hoping to get some more pre-orders into the queue.

I mentioned in my last update that as a thank you to everyone who ordered before November 16, I was going to hold a drawing for two different $25 Amazon gift cards. The lucky winners are JANET CHIASSON and SUE TIBBETTS FINDLEY. Congrats -- your gift cards are in the mail and you should have them soon.

If you haven’t yet pre-ordered your copy of "Shadow King,"  you still have time before the competition ends on December 16! I will be holding drawings for two more $25 Amazon gift cards for NEW readers... one will be for new readers who order between November 16 and November 30, and the other will be for new readers who order between December 1 and December 16.

Thank you all again for your support and interest in "Shadow King."

        All the best,
        Susan
