Hey! I don’t usually update this often, but couple of pieces of news to share.
First if you like fiction about the dirty underbelly of Hollywood (and who doesn’t) please check out notorious Hollywood columnist Nikki Finke’s site, Hollywooddementia. Why? because she has published my novella Falconer, which is about a nasty piece of work named Gavin Falconer! It is appearing in four parts, with Part 2 up today, but if you follow the link to the site you can catch up on Part 1. It would be cool if you leave a comment on the site as well, preferably saying something nice. Or not! But also so cool is the artwork by John Donald Carlucci that accompanies each installment. He is extremely talented. So go read. Here’s the link:

And now marketing news. In case you missed the current issue of The Malibu Times (what, you don’t have a subscription??) this little piece appears on Page 19.
Part of Women Like Us is set in Malibu (with most of the rest in Pasadena), so small independent papers in those areas have been targeted and see? The effort pays off. A blitz of small independent bookstores is currently being planned. Hopefully more news on that soon.
Okay that’s it. Go read Falconer. It’s very different from Women Like Us, and quite frankly it’s not for children, so shoo the kids out of the room!
Yesterday was a great day for Pre-Orders. "Squids In" held 3rd place for a good few hours before the wonderful "In Beta" by Prescott Harvey surged back up the leaderboard while the octopus and I slept. In an effort to win back 3rd place, I asked the octopus to jump on my laptop and hit the social networks to drum up support. I came back to find him doing this...
There is a special circle in hell reserved for Dust2 campers!!!
If you have not already pre-ordered "Squids In", I would really appreciate it if you could. Finishing 3rd is the only way I’m going to get the octopus out of here!
P.S. I have been speaking with some guys over on DeviantArt about drawing a couple of the scenes from my first chapter and what they have been coming back with has been amazeballs so far. "Squids In" is unlikely to morph into a graphic novel but a few drawings here and there won’t hurt. I will share them as and when they are completed.
Matthew

I am very excited to present a new book cover for Mission 51! Here is how it happened:

Well, unfortunately despite the boost from syndicate backing, we have not been able to reach our goal of 250 pre-orders by June 5th. We’ve come up 22 orders short of that lofty goal, so the free short story promotion won’t be offered at this time. I’ve decided to set that as a goal for the 300 order mark: Once we hit 300 orders (however long that takes) I’ll make my short story The Perspective Machine free for all for 5 days.
We’ve made a lot of good progress this weekend, and I do fully expect Tantalus Depths to reach the Quill goal some time this week. Don’t forget to show support in any way you’re able, either by bringing friends or family in to buy pre-orders or simply to spread the word on all social media platforms. Remember: this whole project can only succeed with your help.
After a raft of orders overnight, Squids In is in...drum roll please.... 5th place. Oh, I know you were all expecting more from this wacky book about a video-game playing octopus but unfortunately the other entries in the contest are equally as fascinating and so have been raking in the orders themselves. It looks like the Octopus and I have our work cut out if we want to break into the top 3. As such, the octopus has committed to cut back on his drinking and get himself into shape for the fight ahead. As such, the Wii has been dusted off...
The end is nigh my friends...200 of you intrepid adventurers have put your trust and hard earned money into this making this book a reality, and with 10 days to go, funding is almost completed. Barring some major shift in events behind the scenes, Deus Hex Machina will be headed toward production shortly thereafter.
