Pale Horse

Pale Horse rides and I stand ready

Bourbon and chance can’t save me

I know who comes for me and why

The death of love has left me open to shadow

Vulnerable to the fate of a broken heart

I am hollow

Scar on scar

I am the fire that will be the ashes of tomorrow

The spirit of the boy who gave all for love

Caught between fables

I am aware of the price for my loyalty

A body can live on with no soul, but only for so long

Alabaster mane, eyes like midnight

Pale Horse arrives and I bow before him

His wraithlike presence towers over me

He is kind to me, though

He pities my sorrow

On my knees before my fate

I place my hands on my face

My hands still smell of your groin

The promise you made me are now the chains of my afterlife

So I ride willingly

Leaving innocence and love to be crushed beneath my sweet steed’s hooves

Into the dark, we charge

I’ve nothing more to offer this sick world
