The Geography: Stychia - Overview

Stychia

Stychia is a small continent surrounded by Nyss to the north, Ys to the south-east and Ifrane to the west. It borders both oceans and a number of seas the local population refers to as the Shields.

The central highlands of the continent are dominated by a solitary mountain range known as the Goddess Spine, the tallest and longest single mountain range on Ninhur. The climate of the central highlands is constant, cold and snowy, while the plains surrounding them are often semi-seasonal. Only the coastlines truly feel seasonal changes. In the south the coastal regions are tropical and thus suffer seasonal monsoons and heavy rains while remaining humid and warm during the cooler months. In the north the coastal regions are temperate to subarctic and thus suffer seasonal freezes and thaws while remaining cool in the warmer months.

To the west of the Goddess Spines is lush and humid, with thick forests and swampy wetlands. To the east of the Goddess Spines is arid, with open plains and fertile grounds only found along the major rivers and tributaries.

Geographically the two halves of Stychia have been referred to by local populaces as Stychia (to the west) and Rohvana (to the east), as the eastern portion of the continent was given to the Rohvanese peoples long ago and they have continued to dwell there since.

Stychia, the region of the continent, is poorly demarcated into eight geo-cultural subregions. While Rohvana, the region of the continent, is clearly demarcated into four political subregions which ignore the geography of the region.
