I wracked my brain as I sat down at the desk in my office. Xrobzix had been the one who had made me out to be a hero, the hero who managed to stop a civil war from happening. He asked the questions that had made all the other newspapers and magazines hail me as a hero of the city. And now it seemed he had been a fake reporter for a fake newspaper, did he want to know if we were onto him ? If that was so why did he want to kill me now? Was he a human extremist mistaking me for another human? Sure, we looked a lot like them, but… I shook my head; I still couldn’t believe it.
I looked up at the three faces of Victor, Kendra and the police officer. “Do you know the officers that went to Fraza’s home?” I asked the police officer.
He nodded. “Yes, miss, that was me and my partner,” he replied. “He’s now at your place. Don’t worry, he’s a great cop. They will catch this guy.”
“Did you go into the building or did you just check the area?” I asked.
He bit on his lower lip. “We couldn’t get in the building so we drove off like we were leaving, and then walked back. We figured he might have broken in and would leave once he was sure we were gone. I told you my partner’s a great cop, he came up with that idea.”
There was pride in his voice, and it had been a good idea; but I didn’t think James Xrobzix would be that stupid. He would have waited longer, until he could be absolutely sure the police officers had left.
I stood up and walked to the door. Victor and the cop blocked my path once more. “We can’t let you go to your home, Miss Duluc. Please stop trying,” the officer said.
“I’m not going to my home; I am going to where I punched that jerk in the face. Fraza might have gone back home in the meantime, let him in and could be in trouble.”
The officer shook his head. “I’m afraid I have orders to keep you here until your home has been cleared. Then you can go wherever you like.”
Without warning, I punched him in the jaw. As he fell to the floor I took the keys to his patrol car from his belt and drew my gun.
“No one is going to stop me from going to Fraza’s house,” I said. “I swear, if you even try I will shoot you. Yes, Victor, even you.”
Victor sighed and nodded. He knelt down and checked the police officer, who was out for the count but didn’t seem seriously injured. “You better go now, Tara, before I change my mind,” he growled at me.
