IF I CAN STOP ONE HEART FROM BREAKING
A tribute to Emily Dickinson—a high-ranking goddess in the Lesbian Pantheon™
If you think my writing’s juvenile, perhaps it’s not for you.
Perhaps it’s for the lost
and aimless kids like me,
who wander around like ghosts,
bereft of their short youths.
If my words can help
one empty soul to not, alone, depart,
I have not lived in vain.
If I can disarm one angry heart,
or soothe one pain
or give one kid the courage
to come out unashamed
I have not lived in vain.
Let me give the love back that She gave to me.
No reservations.
No strings attached.
Just light in shadowed places
for long-shadowed faces.
