Hello friends. I am reaching out to you because I have decided that February will be the last month for the Write out Loud Syndicate. Significant changes in my personal life will not allow me to dedicate the time or resources necessary to keep the syndicate running. I am thankful to all of you for helping support our community and proud of the work we have done giving new authors support and encouragement. I will reach out to Inkshares to ask how I can close the syndicate and make sure you don’t continue to get charge after we pick a book this month. Please feel free to submit any recommendations. Thank you.
@Sara Polk thank you very much for being part of the Syndicate and for supporting the community. Best of luck to you and your husband. We hope you can back soon.
I want to propose A Prophecy for Two I know that it already hit Quill but I find it very intriguing and I would like to read it :-) I’m open to other recommendations.
Hello Syndicate members. We have two nominations this month Catching Stars from Cayla Keenan and Murder at the Veterans Club from Chris Huang. Both very deserving books. Both authors members of our community and both books exploring LGBT issues from a very different point of view.
Cayla shared this with me and I think is ok to share with you: there is plenty of LGBT representation in my book!
One of the villains is a gay woman, several of the background characters are LGBT. The point, though, for me, isn’t to have token gay characters, but instead to have them be an existing part of the universe with no crisis of sexuality to speak of. I feel that particular trope is overdone, especially in YA fiction, and I didn’t want it in my novel.
Chris was kind enough to share part of his manuscript with me and I was very surprised and intrigued by his take on LGBT romance. As you may know Chris’s novel is a mystery that takes place in the 1920’s he has two gay characters a hero and one I suspect is not all that good (he didn’t share the ending with me) both sharing feelings for the same guy. The way in which he takes on this, taking into consideration that is a very homophobic time in which these characters live, is very impressive.
Please share your opinion here. Both campaigns have more than 50 days left so we can do one this month and one next.
Of course :) I can’t speak to the LGBT representation in the book based on the content that’s currently available on Inkshares, but the author is part of the LGBT community and that was the reasoning behind my nomination.
I don’t think I joined the syndicate early enough to be included on that month’s order. Once I get paid at the end of this month, I should be able to pick up a copy of your book :)
Hi @Sara Polk I do not recall getting a refund, but I checked and your book is not on my bookshelf anymore. You can definitely count on my support. I will pre-order a copy. Good luck!
The Next week will be a little intense for me (Horror contest ending, The Catcher’s Trap publication day) so I wanted to present you with nomination for November right now. Please feel free to add more and discuss:
hello, I will select this month’s pick in the next day or so. Here is what I’m thinking. Weaponized is currently leading the horror contest and chances are he will be in the top 3 no matter what, so he doesn’t need our help. If something happens and he doesn’t end up top 3 we can reconsider. I’m thinking in choosing A Beast Requires this month and The Last Faoii next. Let me know what you think. thanks!
Hi @J. Graham-Jones thank you for your recommendations.I truly appreciate the nomination of Bad Medicine, but as the lead of the Syndicate I don’t think I should be considered. The other two nominations sound great, I want to add to them our runner up from last month A Beast Requires from Jay Lockwood. Please, everybody, feel free to chime in. Thank you!
I know it’s early, but since I’ve become a bit more familiar with my fellow LGBTQI authors (and advocates) in the community, I’d like to throw out a few possible candidates for the next pick:
@J. Graham-Jones we can nominate books from LGBTQI authors and allies independent of them having LGBTQI characters. If there are characters it is important that they break stereotypes. The book doesn’t need to have both.

Hi @Ricardo Henriquez - for future reference, can I just check: can we nominate books that have LGBTQIA authors and/or characters? (i.e. does the book need to have both?)
Hello friends. It is time to choose a new author to support. I have received two nominations @Sara ’s The Delicate Art of Soul Ripping and A Beast Requires from @Jay Lockwood I know I have said I prefer not to support books currently in contests, but with so many contests going on at this moment that is almost impossible.
My current plan is to select The Delicate Art of Soul Ripping, since it was nominated last month, and re-nominate A Beast Requires next month. Please feel free to chime in.
I don’t have any nominees at the moment - in fact I’m mainly hoping that, at least for this first month, joining the syndicate will give me more visibility of projects that I could nominate in the future. I’ve been wrapped up in my own project so haven’t had any real awareness of who else is writing LGBTQIA fiction!
Hi @J. Graham-Jones welcome and thank you for joining the Syndicate! You have joined right on time for nominations so please feel free to recommend books you would like to be supported by the syndicate. I have already received a couple of nominations for this month, but it is always good to have candidates for the coming months.
hello friends! it is the beginning of the month and your chance to submit nominees is open. Please feel free to post directly here or send me private messages like some of you have done in the past. I hoping to hear from you.
Welcome Sara! we are happy to have you here. And yes, you need a budget here because it is really easy to get excited about books and just spend more than you should.
Thank you so much for supporting the book and this community. Truly means a lot to be apart of this syndicate and to be selected. Thank you all so much and I really hope you enjoy the book once its out!
Dear Members of the Write Out Loud Syndicate, I have to pick a book in the next 5 days. Two very deserving books have been proposed to me:
The Delicate Art of Soulripping and of course Matthew’s I am Waltz
I’m leaning to chose Matthew’s not only because of his generous decision to donate all proceeds to support the families of the victims of the Pulse Massacre, but also because his campaign is ending in the next month and he is so close to hit the mark, with a little bit of our help and the exposure that a syndicate pick gives, he may get there.
@Ricardo Henriquez Thanks for making this Syndicate and I really appreciate your consideration. Support from the community would mean a huge amount & would definitely help me hit my goal come September.
Three new members this month! That is great. We are slowly growing. Welcome aboard Matt! I’m glad to have you as part of the syndicate. Donating all proceeds of your book to Equality Florida is a very noble thing to do. I was also shaken by the events that took place at Pulse, and I applaud you for taking initiative and doing something about it. I Am Waltz will definitely be considered as a potential pick for next months. Thanks for joining us.
Hi everyone. Super excited to be a part of this Syndicate. I know @Emily Senft already recommended my book, but I felt like I should make my case as well. Right off the bat, as a member of the LGBTQIA community myself I felt I wanted to do something for the Orlando Night Club victims. So I have decided to donate all proceeds I ever recoup from my book I Am Waltz to Equality Florida, the states LGBTQIA charity. I of course would love support from the community. Additionally and lastly, the characters in my book break a lot of traditional stereotypes and though many are gay/trans, itis not the focus of the book or a concern for characters in it. Though discrimination of a newer form is the forefront of the book. I tried to highlight that discrimination is cyclical and ongoing, so the opposition of it must be as well.
Anyhow, I am excited to see what great books this syndicate supports. Can not wait to read them all!
Hi @D.L. King welcome to Write Out Loud, sorry it took me a while to welcome you to the group. I was away and I’m just catching up on e-mail. Please, at any moment feel free to recommend books, bring our attention to projects, or ask for support from the group. Thank you for joining.
Can I highlight my own? It’s full of gay, trans and angst. Not funding yet though, so I’ll poke when it is :)
I’ll highlight I Am Waltz by Matthew Dho though. Whilst not explicitly LGBT+ fiction, there’s a lot of themes bleeding through, and many parallels to the struggles faced by minorities. Also, all of his proceeds go to the families from the Orlando shooting.
I’ll be sure to mention any others I come across. Should I DM them to you, or just put them on the discussion board?
Hi @Emily Senft welcome to the syndicate! We are happy to have you here. Please feel free to recommend potential picks for the Syndicate or point us toward projects you find interesting.
Hi all! Just thought I’d stop by and introduce myself. I’m pan, trans, and have a heavy interest in politics and activism. Couldn’t let myself live on Inkshares without joining this syndicate. :)
Hello friends! the selection has been made and I hope everybody feels as good as I feel about it. I struggled at the beginning of this months with nominations and then I ended up with four. Ask and you shall receive, I guess. I have a question to throw at the group, I’ve been ask to support a book/author who already funded. I don’t think that there is a rule against that, but it is definitely not the norm for syndicates. Thoughts?
Welcome and thank you for joining Write Out Loud. Self nominations are absolutely allowed and I will be happy to consider Lucky for either this or next month. A couple of members already recommended one author and I am waiting to hear back from him because his campaign may end soon and he is considering an extension . I will keep you and everybody else posted. Thanks and welcome again.
Hi, all people who Write Out Loud! I’ve joined this syndicate as a very devoted ally to LGBTQI rights. I am excited to see what good we can do in the world by banding together.
If no other nominations are up AND if such actions are allowed, can I suggest my own novel Lucky for this month? I have a crew of characters that I hope break stereotypes and give hope to many that will read my novel in the future.
Hello friends. The day to support another book is approaching. Please feel free to nominate books written by lgbtqi authors or books that highlight well rounded lgbtqi characters. Thanks!
Congratulations Elayna Mae. They are the Last is very deserving and I hope your campaign gets a little boost from our support. Keep promoting and soon your book will achieve the necessary orders to get published.
Hi guys. Made our first pick. I hope you agree and enjoy this book when you get it. Please send me suggestions for next month and let’s continue working to grow our group. Our mission is important and needed in the Inkshares community. Cheers!
Hi guys! we are still a small group (we will grow don’t worry) so I think picking our first book is still manageable. Please let me know if there are any books you have in mind already and then we can choose. I want to propose They are The Last from Elayna Mae Darcy, who not only is a great writer and a fellow whovian (sorry, personal bias:-) ) but also was key in helping put this Syndicate together. Still I would love to hear your thoughts.
Thank you so much for joining William, I appreciate your support for this syndicate. And I’m glad my tips were useful to you. Don’t doubt to contact me when you need someone to bounce ideas. I’m always happy to help.
Ricardo, I’m happy to join your syndicate. You were instrumental in showing me how to use referral links and credits. I recently sent an update with the instructions you shared with me because I thought I was the only one who didn’t understand them but now I realize a lot of people don’t understand how to access and use the links and credits. Thanks for setting me straight on that resource.
You.
