I think it should say "wish to, or perhaps must..." here.  I read this excerpt five times because I really like it, but that keeps sticking out so I’m just letting you know.  I love the finality of the tone, and the creepiness, and I hope you had a productive weekend!  But I’ll wait if you didn’t :)
