Ricardo Henriquez sent an update for The Catcher's Trap

Hello friends

Just a quick update on The Catcher’s Trap’s journey.

I am quite close to a draft of the book I would feel comfortable sharing. I am in the process of revising Chapters nine to twelve before I sent them to my friend and editor extraordinaire Koleen. After that, I will dedicate my time to the last two chapters.

Of course, when I finish this draft I have to go back and review and re-write many pieces. I made serious unplanned changes to the plot –because it made sense- which had ripple effects all through the book. Very butterfly effect I must say…sans Ashton Kutcher of course.

I am incredibly impatient, so the slow process of putting together a well-thought and believable story is testing the boundaries of my ADD. But, as I said before, I want to publish the best novel a first-time author is capable of creating.

My main fear when I started writing The Catcher’s Trap was that I had no talent, and I would embarrass myself.  The support of my friends and reviews from kind people I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet have made me more confident in my work. Of course, my colossal ego helps a good deal as well.

Pre-orders are moving steady, but I still need your help. This morning I hit 850, which is fantastic; but remember, I lost the contest by one book; so I won’t rest until I hit the mystical 1000.

On another super positive front, The Catcher’s Trap Facebook page has almost 700 followers! If you want to join the fun here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/catcherstrap

Well, I guess my definition of “quick” is questionable –same as my fashion decisions in the mid 90’s -

Please pre-order the book and spread the word. If you have not ordered yet, please support my efforts. If you are a fellow author, know that I am here to support yours.

Have a great day!

Thanks for the shout out Dave! And thank you for sharing the publishing process, I am sure all the other authors are as interested to find out about it as I am.

      Happy Satupdaturday!

Quick update to let you know how things are progressing, particularly since people keep stopping me and asking when they can get a copy of the book.

On Sunday I sent in the completed manuscript, along with the dedication, acknowledgments, and a couple surveys from the folks at Girl Friday Productions to help them on the design and marketing fronts.  I also spoke on the phone with Avalon (coolest name ever) from Inkshares about the process.

The next step is for GFP to figure out who within their organization are the best fits for my own project - developmental editing, copy editing, design and marketing.  Once that happens (within the next week or so, I believe), we'll conference call for me to meet the team.

Once that happens, I'll be able to fill you in on more of the timeline.  I would imagine the editing process will take at least a month, maybe two or more, depending on how much work GFP suggests I do revising the manuscript and how much time I've got to respond.  My page is officially "Publish date pending" as of some time ago, so we'll see.

Long story short: while It's All Fun and Games may make a perfect Christmas gift, not this year :p

Also, I'll once again take the opportunity to mention the other books from the contest that are slowly but steadily moving toward publication and could use your support, whether you've got some spare referral credits lying around or even an extra $9.99.

The first is The Catcher's Trap , which is currently at 832 pre-orders with a month to go.  That's just 168 more.  "The Catcher’s Trap is the story of a young man fighting for his life and his freedom in a world where demonic beings have enslaved humans. This is the origin story of a hero born out of the darkest struggle of the human soul."

The second is a book called Single Version, which had been chilling in the top five for much of the contest but ran out of steam a week or so before the end of the contest.  "A massive paramilitary group. A fully armed society. An exploding population of cockroaches. Amidst it all, an entomophobic pacifist who has yet to need a cybernetic limb."

For those of you with little girl-people in your lives, make sure you check out Sadie McGrady, Leading Lady, which is a picture book "created to help young girls imagine themselves as candidates and leaders"

The last thing I'll mention is that Inkshares is still in rapid growth mode.  Many of you came on board with the double $5 credits to preorder a $9.99 book for free.  The Inkshares long term model is based on building a reader base in the hundreds of thousands so that books will fund organically by the people already signed up (rather than authors like me begging people to order).  The long and the short of it is that if you know someone who likes to read, send them over to explore the books currently funding (or order a book already in production - many ebooks, mine included is only 6.99, so that's free with new user credits too).  Inkshares has the potential to truly revolutionize publishing, but only with our help.

That's pretty much it!  Don't forget to visit It's All Fun and Games' Facebook page, and thanks for your continued support!

      Cheers
      Dave

Ricardo Henriquez liked an update for Feyside

        Hey all,

Have some big news to share today -- Feyside has an illustrator! The massively talented LJ Ruell has agreed to grace the project with his keen design eye. LJ is an artist and illustrator with a number of projects and gallery showings beneath his belt. Internet historians may also recall an art project of his as the beneficiary of the first successfully funded Kickstarter... don't ever tell him, but I therefore consider him a good-luck totem and his participation a major source of positive ju-ju for this crowdfunding project!

LJ will be helping to lock down the depiction of the characters, the gear, and the worlds of Feyside and the Sixteen Baronies. We're also talking cover art and interior flourishes!  Below are some of his keen preliminary designs for our four lead characters:

...and this is just the beginning! I'm very much looking forward to sharing with you more of LJ's brilliant depictions as we proceed.

I’m trying not to spam you with updates, but anxiety is killing.

820 copies pre-ordered; 180 more to go. Sales have slowed down quite a lot. I’m hoping the interviews I am doing the next couple of weeks will help me regain momentum.

In the meantime, I am furiously writing and revising my manuscript. I don’t want to sound pretentious, but I’m quite proud of Chapters 11 and 12 which I have just finished (even though the work is never done)

My fellow author and friend Rick Heinz –who has been incredibly supportive- (order his book here, it is awesome: https://www.inkshares.com/projects/the-seventh-age-dawn?referral_code=5a8ac53b) said to me the other day “I got so many copies of your book, it better be good!” He was joking, but, believe me, I feel the pressure and take your support very serious.

I honestly think you are going to enjoy The Catcher’s Trap. When it becomes a Syfy series directed and produced by Ronald D. Moore, you will say, “I pre-ordered a copy of that book when the annoying author was spamming me more than a Nigerian prince.”

You know the drill. If you haven’t pre-order a copy of The Catcher’s Trap, please consider doing it. If you already did, get another one for a friend or family member. If you are a fellow author, let’s support each other!

Please feel free to share the link and spread the word.

          Have a great day!
