Ryne Drogemuller liked an update for Tantalus Depths

It’s been far too long since I’ve been able to deliver news of any significant amount of progress with Tantalus Depths. I’ve had quite a few people approach me asking when the book is coming out, and I’ve regrettably had nothing to offer in the way of a satisfactory answer. I’m not sure I made it clear enough during my campaign last year just how long it takes to get a book through this kind of production process, but it can take a very long time.

Fortunately, today I finally have some good news. Progress has at last been made! Last night I finally received my development letter from Matt Harry, my development editor. Matt is the Head of Story Development at Inkshares, and his work has helped books like the amazing Punch Escrow succeed brilliantly during their production processes.

For those unfamiliar with how the publishing process works, all Inkshares books receiving the full editing treatment (such as Tantalus Depths) go through several waves of editing, each one focusing on improving a separate aspect of the manuscript. The development edit is the first, and it focuses on big picture stuff, such as focusing the story’s overall tone, message, and style. Basically figuring out exactly what kind of story Tantalus Depths is and how to make it the best example of that kind of story it can be.

Tantalus Depths has been read by quite a few beta readers and has gone through at least four rounds of edits, but this is the first time it’s been seen by a professional editor. Matt sent me eleven pages of advice on what sort of things I should consider changing to improve the book, on top of dozens of margin notes in my original manuscript for specific lines and sections I should change.

There’s a lot to work on here. The overall story isn’t going to change from the one I set out to tell; in fact, Matt was very clear that they want to make sure I get to tell the story the way I want it. The primary point of these notes is to focus the story properly, to trim out anything that doesn’t work so I can make the stuff that does work even better. Most of the notes he gave me deal with things such as keeping a consistent tone, improving character development, and getting more into the worldbuilding. I was actually surprised by that last one, since I’ve done a tremendous amount of worldbuilding but was intentionally holding back on including a lot of it, lest I get too carried away. Now that I’ve been given a green light to add more, I’m going to be having a lot of fun with these edits.

So, long update short, the wheels are rolling on Tantalus Depths once more! There is still no release date nailed down (I’m afraid there’s still going to be a decent wait ahead), but finally we’re fully into production mode now. I have a lot of writing and re-writing to be doing in the next couple weeks, but I am looking forward to it. We’ve finally gotten to the point where Tantalus Depths is making the transition from a simple manuscript to a proper Novel.

Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks!

Oh, by the way, my campaign for Proteus is still running, and I’m going to go back into campaigning mode as well within the next month or so. Stay tuned for that as well, and if you haven’t ordered a copy yet (or would like to help the campaign out even more by ordering a second one), please do so!

Ryne Drogemuller liked an update for Witherfist

Hello, readers. Long time no write!

By now, you should have received an email letting you know that you’re getting a refund for pre-ordering my book, Witherfist. Sadly, this isn’t a mistake. I’ve decided not to go ahead with publishing Witherfist at this time.

Since successfully hitting funding of Witherfist in January of this year, I’ve come to a realisation. The book needs a lot of work and a lot of time before it’s in a position to hand to a publisher, let alone to send out to wonderful readers like yourself. Not knowing how long that will be, I don’t feel comfortable asking you to wait, not when you’ve already parted with your money, and so I have made the decision to request that Inkshares refund all of you.

Whether you preordered the book because you genuinely liked the story of Witherfist, or because you wanted to support me, either as a friend or as a fellow author and Inkshares community member, I’m incredibly grateful. Having so many people rally behind this book - and me - really was amazing. You’ve all given me the confidence to share my writing with the world, and I can’t thank you enough for that.

Thanks again for all of your support.

Please let me know if you have any issues receiving your refund.

Ryne Drogemuller liked an update for Enter The Phoenix

As many of you already know "Enter The Phoenix" did not make it to production and those who ordered should have received a refund.

I was not expecting for another contest to arrive so fast. I know most of you follow "Tales From Mist Lake" I would like to say it has been entered into the horror contest.

This is the last time for the year that I will be submitting "Tales From Mist Lake". Let’s see how things go. The link below is for all those entered in the contest.

      Inkshares 2017 Horror Contest

Journey to the town of Red Bear Texas. Explore Mist Lake in 13 tales of terror. The anthology of Red Bear is one to read, each story stands on its own, but connect to each other one way or another.

Ryne Drogemuller liked an update for Cape’s Side Bay

Writing. Editing. Writing. Editing. That’s been a typical day the last little while (those that’s a lie, I was on vacation for several days last week).

Just wanted to update everyone who has supported me and this book, and are not on the Facebook page, to let you know that things are moving. I don’t yet know when the book will be published but we are in the midst of editing. As progress develops I will let you know!

Now, back to writing! Enjoy your day!

        James

Ooh, and don’t forget you can pre-order Cape’s Side Bay still!

Ryne Drogemuller liked an update for Lucky

To my amazing and wonderful readers,

I wanted to drop a line to let you know we’re still here. I am working through some final notes on Lucky before sending it to the publisher. That irritating thing called "real life" (and "job" and "bills") has been keeping me from working as quickly as I would like. Your patience and endurance through this process is more than any author could ask for.

Stay tuned - more updates are coming down the line!

Ryne Drogemuller liked an update for The Bones of the Past
Time flies. It’s already been two months since The Bones of the Past officially launched. It’s been an insane ride filled with blog posts like this one on Epic Fantasy Writer; interviews like this one from Geeks Media and this one from Alicia Smock; not to mention some great reviews– The Hardcover Life, RobertBatten.net, and WordoftheNerdOnline stand out in particular, as well as the Midwestern Book Review and Roll Out Reviews.

My not-so-little book has already made it farther than I ever could have dreamed, and it’s still surreal to walk into a bookstore and see it on the shelf. More great things are still on the way too - Audible will be creating an audiobook version at some point in the (hopefully near) future, bookstores continue to welcome me in for signings (next one is Chapters South Keys 11:00 to 15:00 on August 19th!) and stores are stocking and, more importantly, RE-stocking my book!

With all this happening, I’m still finding time to work on the sequel and the final book of the trilogy, and I can promise that they’re going to be bigger and better than ever 😊

The most important thing in the meantime is to keep the momentum going, and for that I need reviews. Book reviews (even negative ones!) make a massive difference in book sales and they are the single most important factor in keeping this crazy ride going. The reviews don’t have to be long or complicated, just take a few minutes to write out what you liked (or didn’t) - a single sentence will do!
The goal is to get 100 reviews on Goodreads and Amazon (Barnes and Noble and Indigo are also good!). Reviews are starting to trickle in as people make it through the 500-odd pages, but there’s a long way to go to get to 100. So, if you’ve had a chance to finish Bones, please take a few minutes to write a quick review on any one of these sites:

            Amazon http://amzn.to/2triUX4
            Goodreads http://bit.ly/2rgbe6T
            Indigo http://bit.ly/2shV0JE
            Barnes and Noble http://bit.ly/2qwbVM0

If you feel particularly generous – please copy and paste your review to several of them, or even all four!

Thank you all yet again – I could not have done this without your support!
