For over two weeks he had been coming to the church. I watched him walk in, with strong, purposeful steps, and yet he was clearly carrying a great weight. He would hold a stick but not use it to walk. He would always take a bench at the back of the congregation, and would sit, motionless, staring at the floor for hours.
