Leo Valiquette liked an update for Rock of Ages

It’s almost March! I’ve been busy with lots of different projects and events. Yesterday I spoke to a group of women writers at a retreat and had a wonderful time. Next week, I’ll be part of a choral reading at a launch event for Gayle Brandeis’s new book, Many Restless Concerns.

My big exciting news right now, though, is that I’ve received a report back from the peer review of my book for WVU Press-- a look at the punk scene of North Central West Virginia in the 2000s! The feedback is great, and I feel good about the suggestions. I’ll be sending my response back shortly!

I’m now on my second draft of my new novel, and am hoping to hear back from my editor soon about my Inkshares book. I will be sure to keep you updated on all of it!

    *Corrected Update*

    Hello Resurgence Supporters!

Thank you so much for helping fund my book and making my dream a reality. As of January 4, 2020, Resurgence hit the 750 mark to confirm publication with Inkshares. Since then, seven more people have preordered the book, and if you know any still looking for a great read, Resurgence is now available to order at a discounted price.

I know many of you are probably wondering what happens from here. Better yet, when you will get your hands on the digital and physical copies of my debut novel. I am here to answer your questions and update you on my progress.

Once I hit the preorder goal, Resurgence was sent to the editors at Inkshares. This is the very first step in the publication process. I received a twelve-page editorial letter that began with the following: "I’m excited by the potential that I see in Resurgence. Young readers will be very interested in a group of characters who are looking to overthrow a corrupt government, especially given that those characters will be around the same age as them. With a lot of work, your novel will make an entire generation of young readers devour your stories and rally behind your lead characters as they try to accomplish seemingly insurmountable tasks." As you can see, Inkshares is excited to publish Resurgence in the near future, but like with any good novel, it’s going to take some hard work to reach that point. I will be honest, with the thousands of dollars I have paid on editors over the years, I expected smaller rewrites this time around. I am finding that not to be the case. It’s going to take some time, maybe even a few months to rewrite the weak parts of the story, mostly due to the demands of my teaching schedule. HOWEVER, I am so excited about the new direction. These changes will strengthen characters, create a sharper view of this dystopian world, and leave you inside a plot that will keep you guessing until the end. If you are someone who has read the story before, don’t be too alarmed. The meat of the plot will remain, along with many characters. Everything I am doing will make the story that much more worth the wait. When I am done with the current rewrite, Resurgence will be sent back for another review. Eventually, I will reach a point in which both parties are happy with the story. While this is going on, the cover design will also be taking place at Inkshares (the cover I had on my page was just a placeholder.)

I know many of you were looking to get your hands on the story in early 2020, and I am sorry if I am disappointing you. According to the contract, books take between 9-12 months to reach publication. That means we are looking at the end of 2020. I promise the wait will be worth it.

Thank you again for your support! I will be here to update you throughout the process.

Leo Valiquette liked an update for The Devil Inside

        Feb. 19, 2020

Hello everyone! I know it has been a long time since I’ve updated through Inkshares while The Devil Inside was waiting to enter production -- but I have great news! I received word on Valentine’s Day that The Devil Inside has been assigned an editor and is officially moving into production. I don’t have a specific release date yet but it will be sometime this summer (I’m guessing August).

For all of you who were so awesome during my funding period and pre-ordered a copy, that means the wait is almost over. As we get closer to the release date, I’ll get in touch with each of you to remind you what you ordered (and when) so that you know what to expect when the book releases. (And if you haven’t ordered yet, now’s a great time to get your pre-order in and be one of the first to get a copy!)

I will be sending other updates as production progresses but will likely send them via my e-newsletter because I have a number of contacts outside the Inkshares platform as well and I want to streamline my messages. If you would like to be on that mailing list -- and I promise, I don’t spam! -- please go to my website: www.susankhamilton.com and fill out the form. Once I get that notification, I’ll add you!

Thanks again for your patience. I can’t wait for all of you to have your official copy of Devil to finally read!

        Best,

        Susan

Leo Valiquette liked an update for Showtime

          Hi everyone,

I’m happy to say that, as of last night, Showtime re-writes have been completed and sent back to my editor for review. From there she’ll let me know her thoughts and we’ll see if anything else needs additional work. I’m anticipating another round, but this current revision (aside from actually writing and successfully crowdfunding the book) is undoubtedly the biggest hoop to jump through before getting Showtime to publication and finally into your hands. Even if there’s additionally work to be done, I doubt it’ll be as much as this round.

With this revision, I ended up adding about 17,000 additional words to the manuscript—meatier descriptions, more dialogue, enhanced backstory and character relationships, among others—for a total of 126,000 words and roughly 490 pages. I anticipate a little being cut, but overall I’m pretty excited with the changes and really think the book is even better than before.

The next step is getting some feedback from my editor about the new draft (hopefully within the next couple months) and we’ll take it from there. I’ll be sure to send out new information when I have it, but for now, thanks again for your continued support and enthusiasm!

Leo Valiquette liked an update for Mushroom and Anchovy

            Greetings, adventurers!

Happy Mushroom and Anchovy Monday!… on Wednesday. I had every intent to get this out on Monday, but I’m finally starting to recover from a nasty sinus infection and, let’s face it, life is kind of chaos. So, without any further ado...

I’m so sorry for the silence over the past few months. Between moving, the pregnancy, the holidays, birthdays, illness, and now being on leave, everything has been really chaotic. Our due date for our newest family member is approaching swiftly—less than a month away, in fact—so now we’re getting everything ready. It’s going to continue to be a very busy time!

The good news is that I have a bit of an update for you. After reaching out to the lovely folks at Inkshares in the new year, I have been informed that they are only a few months away from Mushroom and Anchovy’s production kickoff. This is very exciting news. I hope to have a true update for you in a few months, but for now, at least we have this!

We moved to our new home back in November and have been settling ever since. The cats are very fond of this place and have been happily bonding. I won’t go into too much detail, but if you’re curious for some shots of our updated kitchen and other points of interest in our home, please head over to my Instagram or you can watch live from my Twitch channel, where I do cooking and baking 3x a week (for the time being)—in fact, we’re having an on-stream baby shower this coming Sunday the 8th, and we’d love to see you there! I also would like to add that I participated in Vlogmas this year--that and more content can be found over on my YouTube. I’ve also recently partnered with the amazing folks over at Wild Cherry Spoon Co., who make beautiful artisan kitchenware. Very exciting times!

I have been pushing myself to produce 2 blog posts a month—one recipe, one prose—over on my website www.thepracticalescapist.ca. Hope to see you there!

I won’t update again until production has kicked off, now that I have some news. I hope you’re looking forward to an exciting 2020 with me!

May your travels be fraught with wonder and just enough peril to keep them interesting,

Leo Valiquette liked an update for Lost in the Fog

              Aloha All,

I’m happy to share with you that Lost in the Fog is nearly ready to reach your hands and eyes as a published book!  Inkshares is currently doing the design pour, which is one of the final steps before it’s printed.  While I don’t have a hard date yet, publication will be either this April or May.

I also have the cover I can at long last reveal to you!

Lost in the Fog shares a few strands of DNA with the Maltese Falcon, the Big Sleep, and a few other of my favorite classic mystery novels.  And the cover is a pulp fiction inspired throwback to those books, designed by the immensely talented team at Coverkitchen.  I present it to you below.

There was a ton of back and forth and revisions, and I’m thrilled with their final version.  Although I love the old pulp covers, I wasn’t sure if it would work for my book, and originally considered more modern designs.  But in the end Xavier and Rafa of Coverkitchen came up with the throwback concept, and nailed it.

So excited to be in the home stretch, and I’ll continue to keep everyone updated!
