Well, folks, the time is nigh!
I have heard from a reliable little birdie that the e-books for Eudaimonia will be pushed out about two weeks ahead of the publication date. For those of you not counting, that could be as soon as Tuesday 10/25! It sounds like the print books will be shipped the first week of November.
So, make sure your mailing and email addresses are updated!
Sign in to Inkshares, click your profile picture in the top right corner of the screen, and select "Shipping Address" from the dropdown menu. You can email the fine folks at: hello@Inkshares.com if you have any questions.
Your pal,
Meghan Godwin
Greetings, adventurers.
I come to you today with perhaps the most exciting promise of treasure of all: an update.
Much like the feeling one has when dropping their child off at a new babysitter for the first time, I write to you with hope and apprehension today. Because Mushroom and Anchovy’s most recent manuscript has been sent off to Inkshares to undergo copyediting.
I’m not sure what this expressly means for our timeline, but the facts we have right now are thus:
1. Mushroom and Anchovy is currently sent in for copyediting.
2. This has never happened before.
We can, by means of logic and reason, now deduce thusly: the ball is finally rolling to get these books into your hands.
It’s been a long time coming, and I’m so excited to finally be able to share this wacky tale with you all!
I’ll contact you again when I have more news. But, for now, please know that the book is in progress. My biggest wish now is for it to be worthy of such a wait. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding!
In the meantime, I’m going to be looking into getting us a new artist and cover!
May your travels be fraught with wonder and just enough peril to keep them interesting,
K. M. Cooper
Hello, supporters of BLACK FOREST!
The book will be available in less than two weeks! Thank you all for your patience and your support! If you’re a Missoulian, make sure you’ve cleared your calendars for the launch party at Frame of Mind on Friday, November 4th, and 6:30!
BUT HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NEXT! The books are about to ship from Inkshares very shortly, which means that you need to check your account (the one you created when you pre-ordered BLACK FOREST) and make sure that your SHIPPING ADDRESS IS UPDATED! Otherwise you won’t receive your book on time (or maybe at all!)
Thank you once again - I couldn’t have done it without you all, and I’m so excited to share Nathan’s world of BLACK FOREST with you VERY VERY SOON!
Love you all--
Laramie Dean!
Our book, The Man from Mittelwerk, launched in early September and hopefully you have received your eBook or printed copy by now.
If not, please check your email and spam folders for email from hello@inkshares.com. You can also log in to your Inkshares.com account, go to your Profile page and click on the Account button in the top right corner to verify your shipping address. If it’s wrong or if you never filled it out, please send an email to hello@inkshares.com to let them know. (Or hit me up if you’d prefer to listen to the book on Audible instead.)
It was great to attend the BoucherCon mystery writers (and readers!) conference in Minneapolis. I was on a panel session and got to spend some time with a few of my favorite authors including Scott Von Doviak, Rick Mofina, William Kent Krueger and others. If you haven’t Scott Von Doviak’s novel Charlesgate Confidential, check it out! It’s one of the best books Hard Case Crime has published.
This is likely the last email I’ll send from Inkshares. There will be occasional updates over at the official site www.mzurlocker.com as we have news on translated French and German editions as well as new short stories Mike and I are working.
Thank you again for all your support and encouragement. I’m proud of the book and I hope that you enjoy it. If you can post a review on Amazon or Audible, that is very helpful. Feel free to shoot me email letting me know anything you liked (or disliked!) about the book. But don’t hit reply -- send it to Zurlocker@hotmail.com!

PS. Here’s a photo of me hanging out with Dennis Lehane (Mystic River, Shutter Island) at BoucherCon.
Hello, hello!
We are 23 days from the publication date! This is the part that feels like the twelve days of Christmas. Every day there is another little gift to happen upon; bookmarks, digital ads, and some very early reviews. I just saw and approved the e-book version of Eudaimonia. Some of you have even sent me screenshots of your Amazon order updating the expected delivery date. We are in the end game now!
I wanted to take a moment to once again say thank you. When I embarked on this fever dream five years ago, I did not know what to expect. But one of the things that most surprised me was how easily you all said, "yes." Your "yes" (e-book purchase, retweet, supportive comment, etc.) has changed my life. I know, I know, Lord, Meghan, could you be any more cheesy? (for the record, yes, so be impressed; this is me showing restraint.) But "yes" from folks across every facet and season of my life changed the way I thought about myself and what I could do. Knowing that other people believe you are capable of something can be a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. We have now reached the weird part that I am very bad at. It will only devolve into misty, heartfelt nods. So, I’m going to stop here and say: thank you.
For those of you in and around the Greenville area, we will be having a party Saturday, November 12. I tried to pull out all the local backers and invite you individually, but, if you haven’t seen the e-vite yet, I probably did a bad job or it may have gotten lost in the ether of the internet. Internet and other idiocies aside, this whole publication business wouldn’t have happened without your "yes". This little party is a small way for me to say thank you to your wonderful faces. I hope to see you there.

Appreciatively,

Hey everyone,
I’m temporarily pausing my search for the elusive pumpkin spice Belvita to pop in with a few exciting Showtime updates. For one, after combating delays related to pandemics, printer shutdowns, re-writes, active volcanoes, and swarms of locusts, Showtime will officially be released into the wild (and your hands) on December 6, 2022! For those of you who aren’t mathematically inclined (don’t worry, I’m right there with you), that’s less than two months from today. Zoinks, Scoob!
I can think of no better way to celebrate than by debuting the official cover. With its present-day character juxtaposed with an outdated TV, old wallpaper, and green tint, it has one foot firmly planted in the present and one in the 1970s, something that Jordan Jones might know a little about. I think it perfectly captures the flavor of the book (not to mention looking pretty snazzy).
If you were unable to sleep last night because you were stuck in an endless thought spiral while thinking, Jeeze, I wish I could read some of the final copy of Showtime RIGHT NOW!, you’re in luck! Wicked Horror is running an exclusive excerpt that can be found here: Here’s Your First Look at the Cover Art from Ricky Ruszin’s Novel ‘Showtime’ [Exclusive]
A quick note about pre-orders: If you already pre-ordered a copy of Showtime (first, pat yourself on the back and have a cookie), you’ll be receiving your copies on time. However, if you pre-ordered an eBook copy, you’ll be receiving it 2 weeks before the official release date. The reasoning behind this is to give digital readers a chunk of time to read the book and post reviews on Amazon and Goodreads so we have a head start on press for release day.
That’s all for now, but more good things ahead!
Ricky
It’s been a full week since the launch of Tantalus Depths, and it already feels like the whole world has changed. Our launch event was a fantastic experience; I loved the chance to spend time with so many of you and revel in this amazing experience with so many of the people who made it happen. Bookstores and libraries are beginning to carry it, glowing reviews are coming in from all over the world, and we’re right on track with where I wanted to be.
So what comes next? Well, the official launch day of a new novel is only the beginning when it comes to determining that book’s overall success. Technically, I could just forget about it and move on to the next project right now, but as far as launching a career as a published author, that would be the equivalent of sitting down to take a nap ten feet away from the finish line in a marathon. Many people have now read, and enjoyed, Tantalus Depths, but this still mostly consists of those of you who preordered it years ago. In order for this book to truly take off and become successful, it must be able to find new readers. It needs to build momentum, gather attention from outside my personal social circle, and start catching the attention of complete strangers. It’s a challenging, but necessary phase in launching a book, and right now the best way to achieve it will require your help once again.
We need reviews!
Reviews are absolutely necessary for a book to find its full potential. Amazon reviews are especially vital: it’s the primary driver of book sales in the industry, and it takes at least 50 reviews for Amazon’s automated algorithms to start recommending it to new customers. Fifty reviews just to get noticed, a hundred to be actively promoted, and at the time of writing this, Tantalus Depths has...four.
Those four reviews are incredibly valuable in their own right, but we’ll need far more to get the attention Tantalus Depths needs to find its best chances of success. With Tantalus Depths in all of your hands now, I must ask for your help one more time. If you can spare a few minutes of your time to leave a fair and honest review of Tantalus Depths on Amazon, or another site such as Goodreads, I would be eternally grateful.
Amazon can be a bit of a pain. Sometimes it takes several days for a review to go up after you’ve submitted it, and sometimes they will reject a review for no obvious reason and not tell you about it. That’s all the more reason why every review is vital and precious to Tantalus Depths’ survival, so please don’t underestimate how much of a difference your review will make.
I’m optimistic that we’ll get there eventually. Early reviews are very positive, and I suspect we’ll keep getting a lot more in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, thank you all again so very much for all your continuing support, and I hope you’re all enjoying your experiences reading Tantalus Depths after such a long wait!

Dear Supporters and Readers of Wild Conviction,
As you know, I submitted revisions to the Inkshares Editorial Team late in March of this year. I have been, as I know many of you have been, eagerly awaiting an update on the publishing timeline.
Yesterday I received an update from the Editorial Team, but it was not the update I was anticipating. The Inkshares Editorial Team has decided not to publish Wild Conviction. Their email stated the reason as: “While we understand the story’s thematic relevance in today’s America, our feeling is that there remains a significant gulf still between the story you wish to write and the story that we believe will find a large enough audience in today’s publishing climate.”
I respect their decision and reason. And I am thankful for the time I have spent as an aspiring Inkshares author.
I have met so many great authors with Inkshares, and I have communicated with amazing, wonderful people—you, the readers and supporters of Wild Conviction—in the process of the pre-order campaign and the 2020 All-Genre Manuscript contest.
I am grateful to Inkshares for these opportunities to build community.
Wild Conviction is still the recipient of these honors:
Thank you, readers and supporters of Wild Conviction. You made its winning of the 2020 All-Genre Manuscript Content happen!
As well, so many of you worked hard and spent much of your time, as I did, to reach out to your friends and family to get the pre-orders with Inkshares, of which there are 276! Your dedication, time, energy, engagement and pre-orders to help me succeed as a published novelist is the loveliest honor I know. I am so grateful.
Moving forward:
You all have been fabulous during the pre-order campaign, the contest, and awaiting publication news with me. What a great ride it has been, and the ride continues!
If you do not already subscribe to my newsletter, I hope that you will subscribe now, so that I can continue to be in contact with you about the new progress to publication for Wild Conviction. You can subscribe at the bottom of any page of my website: MaryDezember.com
Onward and upward.
In gratitude,
