Landon Trine liked an update for The Punch Escrow

We did it! The Punch Escrow is getting published!!

I’m on a plane and my laptop battery is about to die, so I have to make this quick. You lot have done something which my wife would have heretofore deemed impossible: I am speechless. So, while I do a little happy dance to myself, I wanted to recognize a few people, and then we’ll get on to all the raffle winners and such tonight (alas, victory doesn’t afford me the ability to shrug off my job).

Rachel Klein: I know it’s not easy being married to me. Thank you for putting up with my creative obsessions. I love you.

Iris and Violet Klein: My two beautiful muses. You’re too young to understand, but you’ve given my life purpose.

My extended family. Especially the Brown ladies, who are making me discuss my book at their book club at our next family reunion. Thankfully there are no sex scenes, although the protagonist does get naked once or twice. (’ey lord! Bless his soul!)

My “staff” (+3 of great friendship, 20% savings throw bonus when asking others for favors) – These folks have gone above and beyond to assist me in various phases of the book. Without them, The Punch Escrow would not be: Peter Birdsall, John Hannon, Joe Santoro, Dave Sontag, Ian Ellison, Russ Mitchell, Dan Salinas, Ben Murphy (kindof), Ryan Potter, Meredith Peruzzi, Acar Altinsel, Robert Kroese

My Inkshares “mental support” crew: James Rasile, Rick Heinz, Pat Edwards, Peter Bats, and my arch nemesis Brian Guthrie (who, despite the fact we were competitors, was always on hand to help me understand the Inkshares contest process, and teach me promotional tips and tricks).

Micah Pegman - Won the shirt raffle this week!

Our top 3 referrers in the past 96 hours (each gets a "teleporting" The Punch Escrow coffee mug):

Pete Downing

James Rasile

Nicola Sarjeant

Stay tuned for the MAJOR PRIZE announcement. Also, if any of you who participated in the Penguin Magic promotion have not gotten your Tarbell 51 code, please let me know, don’t bother the Inkshares or Penguin Magic support people.

More soon!

Landon Trine liked an update for Cape’s Side Bay

    Hello all!

Another quick update. We passed 200 orders! Thank you all so very much! This is incredible, I’m still in disbelief. Long long way to go, but very happy at where we sit right now. You’re seriously all the best!

The Geek & Sundry contest is over. Congratulations to Tal M. Klein, Brian Guthrie, and Erin S. Evan! You can still check out and order their books, and be sure to check out the other books in the contest. There are some really great gems in there that can still use your support!

That’s all for me. Please, as always, share, recommend, review, pre-order, talk about, and let’s get Cape’s Side Bay to Quill (and possibly beyond?)!

    James

Landon Trine liked an update for Deus Hex Machina

Deus Hex Machina was just chosen to be part of the illustrious Sword & Laser Collection here on Inkshares. I would write more about this, but I’m too busy shaking with gratitude.

I am honored beyond words to stand amongst these great writers. Holy cow!

Landon Trine sent an update for First on Mars

Hello all! Today marks the final day of the contest.

First of all, I want to congratulate the top three winners of the contest:

The Punch Escrow by Tal M. Klien

         After Man by Brian Guthrie

The Pirates of Montana by Erin S. Evan

They are all deserving authors and all three have already passed more than 250 orders. I’m a firm believer that you can never have enough books, so check them out and pre-order if you are so inclined. Although I would have loved to be in the top three, I’m happy and humbled to have finished eighth out of over a hundred entries!

Now that the contest is over, it’s time for the real funding process to begin. In case you haven’t noticed, the book has until September 1st to reach its funding goal. That’s 107 days from now. It’s currently 25% of the way to Quill.

PS. Congrats to Michael Haase who won the T-shirt contest! Your shirt is on the way.

Landon Trine created a forum thread: Backer only updates?
Is Inkshares planning on adding a feature for "backer only updates" (meaning updates that only goes to those who pre-ordered a book)? I think that would be a nice feature to have. For example to send out backer-only chapters.

In fact I’ve seen many authors sending out mass emails to get around this lack of feature.

          Hi everyone!

Living in Germany, funding is made a little more difficult because the site absolutely requires a credit card and that’s just not something people, especially my target audience and most of my friends and family, tend to have. Is there any plan to add other payment options?

I did a little breakdown on a Goodreads thread a while back to try and figure out where most of my orders were coming from. As I recall, the vast majority were from individual requests online. I sent a LOOOOOT of personalized (i.e. "Hey Katie, I saw your last video of you Irish step dancing and it was so cool! I hope I get to see you in person one of these days. Let me know the next time you have a show.
I'm sending you a message because I wrote a book, and I'm hoping you'll give it a chance and check it out." etc etc) messages to individual people, and that method brought in the most orders. And giving away stuff, too. Everyone likes a contest or giveaway.

I got a pretty good response for a few days from pitches, but then it trailed off and no one was responded to those anymore. I think everyone just started sending out so many pitches that people started ignoring them.

I constantly remember a piece of advice from Lindsey Buroker, a self-publishing author that I really respect and admire - she said you pretty much have to hand-sell your first 1000 copies. If you're an unknown author, you have to just go order by order, one person at a time. It's gonna be hard.

But if each of us can get you an order or five, that will help!

Thanks.  As to the twitter thing, that’s kinda my point.  I’m not really on twitter or instagram nor do i have a ton of people on facebook, which I’m getting that in this situation is a bit of a handicap.  I wanted to go this route because going to a typical publisher requires a market survey and graphs and all kinds of stuff to convince them you have people who will read your book.  Well it doesn’t work out well for fledgling authors, so I came here, and now I’m building a following bit by bit, but with how far I have to go and the time I have left, saying I’m anxious that I won’t make it is an understatement.
