Chris Robinson liked an update for Ghosts of War

So earlier today I was asked by Cara Weston (if you haven't checked out her book, you should...--->;;;;;;;;;;;;; She Is The End ) if I had some idea of who would play the characters in Ghosts of War if it was turned into a movie or TV show. The answer is yes...yes I do.

So here we are, the main characters of Ghosts of War (and a few supporting ones) if it were to become a watchable thing (like...maybe a 10 episode Netflix series...yeah...that sounds nice.)

A few fun facts:

  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan was originally Cole way back in the beginning, until I decided he needed to be younger.
  • I may or may not have written Whil T'Qar specifically for Wil Wheaton...
  • I only 'cast' Gregor, Tobias and Kira in the last 6 months, and now I can't see anyone else being them.
  • Actually that's a lie, I recast Gregor, he was originally Anton Yelchin, but then JJ's Star Trek's happened and it felt a bit on the nose.
  • The Oren casting will be obscure for most everyone, but guys, trust me...lol.
  • You might have noticed that Whil, Martiss and Sharma are all new. I haven't yet formally introduced them but rest assured they have key parts to play in this book and the next two as well.

Until next time...

Chris Robinson liked an update for Deus Hex Machina

This actually happened a couple of days ago, but I got distracted with life happening (ugh) so I'm just getting to this now.  We hit 130 orders so it's time for another raffle!

    Congrats to....Michael Valdez!

I'll pull the next name out of my virtual hat at 140 orders.

Here in Huntsville we are awaiting our first little snowstorm of the year, so I'm hoping a little dusting of white on the ground out back will be the inspiration I need to get back to writing.  I admit, spending close to 15 hours writing the synopsis took it out of me, so I've been spending a lot of time reading to recharge my creative batteries.

What are you currently reading?  I'm in the middle of Mistborn Hero of Ages, and already I'm getting lots of inspiration for Shadow of the Panther (of course, reading fantasy makes me want to write fantasy), so I guess I need to get some cyberpunk into my reading rotation stat. Or just watch Blade Runner again. Or both. Hmm...

Chris Robinson liked an update for Disintegration

      Hello, everyone.

I know it's been ages since my last update. I haven't had much to say, so I've been reluctant to mince words just to send something out.

I've been working almost every day on the manuscript and I have been giddy with excitement over how it is coalescing into exactly the story I want to tell. To all of you that have supported Disintegration so far, thank you again. That support has been the catalyst for my inspiration. However, with regard to my goals on Inkshares, I have further yet to go.

I spoke with Jeremy about the impending end of my campaign and how, when it arrived, I would qualify for Quill ... but Disintegration will need more than a "light edit"; it needs the works. The manuscript is epic and--while it can definitely be pared down--the more eyes on it, the better; the more rounds of editing, the better; the more professional the packaging, the better.

So, if you look at my book page, you'll notice that the Quill option has been removed. I didn't know that was going to be the result of my talks with Jeremy ... and seeing the safety net be taken away was a little frightening ... but it's just an exclamation point on that a fully funded campaign is the only way for Disintegration to truly be successful.

Additionally, we've opted to go with a paperback, which decreases the price ... which, I hope, makes Disintegration more enticing to anyone who has yet to purchase it.

On that note, more orders are crucial. If you have already supported me, and if that support indicates that you really believe in my book, please help me generate more sales. Share it with your sci-fi loving friends who aren't yet aware of it. Go tell it on the mountain.

The eBook option is now only ten bucks. The paperback is $20. I'm only halfway to fully funded, so your help is critical. If you can get just one person to buy a copy -- if all of my followers do the same -- we'll be knocking on the door of that fully funded campaign tomorrow.

Please help me to fully realize Disintegration's potential.

      Thanks,
      Steve

Chris Robinson liked an update for Dax Harrison

        Hello readers!

Things have been a little quiet around here, but I wanted to touch base with you all really quick and let you know that things are still very much in motion.

The Inkshares team is patiently waiting for me to finish up the Dax manuscript, at which point editing & production will finally begin!

"How long will that be, Tony?"
Well, to be perfectly honest, I have no idea. This is my first go around the whole authoring/editing/publishing block. Rest assured, I'm pushing to write as much as I can every day.

What I CAN tell you is that the writing is moving steadily along. My biggest obstacle in redrafting the story is reminding myself to reign it all into something cohesive and not shoot off into a million directions and tangents. While the original Dax screenplay told a very direct story out of necessity, novelization opens SO MANY possibilities. Different viewpoints, more commentary, exploring the inner thoughts of the characters, etc. And as I move along, I find myself wanting to scratch that itch more and more.

So I'm doing my best to find a good balance between editing/expanding the original material and just getting the darn thing done. Maybe I'll save the rest for the sequel... :)

"Really? You're already planning a sequel?"
        Yep!

"This isn't another one of those Hunger Maze Divergent Runner Games things where you're going to rope me into buying 3 or 4 books just to finish the story, is it?"
Haha, nope. No offense to those books, but I set out to make Dax one complete adventure. Period. But if that leaves people interested in more wacky adventures, I've got another one in the tank. Maybe two. Think more Indiana Jones or James Bond rather than The Lord of The Rings.

"So can you at least tell me around when to expect my book?"
If I keep my current pace, I'm hoping to turn in the manuscript before the end of next month. I will of course keep you updated should that change.

What I can also tell you is that the Inkshares team estimates roughly a 4 1/2 month turnaround time from when I hand over the manuscript to the completed publishing of the book. That of course can also change depending on the length of the text, the amount of editing required, and so on. But this at least gives you folks a better idea of the expected time frame.

"Hey, I won one of your mug contests a while back. Where's my mug?"
Apologies for the delays. I finally got all the mugs to the post office early yesterday. I hope they find their way to you safely and shortly. If you want, send me a pic on Twitter (@rockhollywood8) of you enjoying it and it will warm my heart. :)

        "Anything else I should know?"
Yes! Chapter 1 is not actually the start of the book! I've been keeping a secret prologue from you all, which I just finished rewriting. I was going to save it until the book released, but what the heck. I am sending it to your inboxes as we speak. You can also read it here at Inkshares.

That's all for now, folks. Back to the grindstone!

          We won!!!!

I can’t seem to make myself fully believe it, still so I have to keep saying it! :)

I am incredibly grateful to each and every one of you for all the help and support getting word out about my book. The last month has been one of the most exhausting experiences I can remember – Sleep? No time for that, I have to message people in other time zones! Writing? After work, there’s only time for promoting the book!

I would like to take a moment to thank my family who went above and beyond in getting me through this contest, in particular - my sisters Kirsty and Laura, my brother Keith and my brother-in-law Cyril who each worked at least as hard as I did promoting the book; my parents Scott and Elaine who reached out to more people than I can count; and of course my lovely wife Margo who not only worked tirelessly alongside me, but also somehow managed to keep me sane.

I was also greatly helped in my efforts by a number of great friends including Sebastien Genest, Mathieu Pralus, Sara Hernandez, Isabelle Pottier, Eddy Lesert and so many others that I just can’t list everyone. Again, I am grateful beyond words.

And I can’t leave out the amazing authors who helped me out and made (and continue to make) the Inkshares experience as amazing as it is – John Robin the author of Blood Dawn and backbone of the whole author community, Julian Green the co-author of Suffrage – the First World Key, Cara Weston the author of She is the End, Billy O’Keefe author of These Are My Friends on Politics, Michal Sebby author of The Inhabitants: An Unremembered Life, and Janna Grace author of the Talkers are Talking, not to mention my co-winners Joseph Asphahani author of The Animal in Man, and Matthew Sobin the author of the Last Machine in the Solar System. All of their books are amazing and well worth checking out if you’re looking for something else to read!

And now, I’d like to make my small gesture of thanks to my supporters: here is the video link of the 4X50$ gift card draws, and the draw for a themed cake by Lolai’s Yummies. Congratulations to the winners!

I’m looking forward to a little break - picking up Fallout 4, maybe even making it in to see the new Star Wars movie, and most importantly getting back to my writing! I’ve started to miss my characters and wonder what they’ve gotten up to in my absence! There are also still some edits and rewrites I need to finish before the manuscript is ready to be turned over to Inkshares so that the process of getting it published can get under way :)

           Thank you all!!!!

Deus Hex Machina has hit 100 readers (Actually 101 so I'll run the drawing through to that number)! It's time for another giveaway!  Congrats to...Julian Green and Finn Mcrae!

Looks like you'll have to set up a visitation schedule for your copy of Shadow of the Owl. Might I suggest every other weekend and holidays?

As a reminder, we are only three orders away from A.C. Weston's raffle of an original page from the DHM graphic novel.  We are so close! Let's do this tonight!

This time tomorrow the contest will be over.  Now is the time to vote with your preorder if you haven't already.  DHM is in 6th place right now, but I'd really love to end in the top five. Are you following the book but haven't preordered yet? Please consider doing so now.

Anyway, the contest has been amazing. I've learned that this project has merit beyond its original graphic novel origins, and have met some amazing writers here at Inkshares. To all of you, my deepest thanks.

              Hello Everyone,

I don't put my personal recommendation on a lot of books. I'm not a miser, but I'm not exactly the most generous person with my seal of approval. A lot of that has to do with passion. I want to tell you about stories that are worthy of your time. The other part has to do with faith. I only want to tell you about authors who I believe can get the job done. When I say I stand behind the words of Amanda Ornek and her book, Deus Hex Machina, you better believe it!

If you like science fiction, cyberpunk, or rad stories (yes I said rad grammar checker and I mean it,) then you need to check out this book. There is so much about it that is nails the aesthetic. Let me throw a couple words your way. The main characters name is Isidore RAM, sister of the Chuch of Technology. Can you get behind that? What if I said she was investigating technology in a dystopian Orange County? Not far from reality right? I've talked with Amanda about this book, and there are things in there that you are not going to want to miss. I believe this book has legs, so get in on the ground floor and be one of the ones that helped make it happen. You won't be disappointed.

Pre-order Deus Hex Machina before it's too late.

                Dear Readers,

You amazing, fantastic, beautiful humans!!! WE DID IT!!!!! WE DID IT IN 3 DAYS!!!!!! Do you know how wonderful you are? You made my dream come true today, and I am grateful beyond measure!

Today is a day of great hope. There have been far too many times in my life, and in yours I'm sure, where others have told you that my dream was impossible.  That I weren't smart enough, strong enough or good enough for my dream to come to fruition.  It happened to me while I was healing after this accident, it happened while I was pitching this book - and both times I considered giving up.  But luckily, somewhere inside of me there was this well of hope that wouldn't let me give up - and here I am living, walking and going to publish a book!

Please take a good hard look at what happened over the last three days, and know in your heart that no matter what anyone else says - there is always hope.

Also, if you have a minute, can you give yourself the BIGGEST hug. The hug is from me, and make it a good one, because I REALLY mean it.

                Love,

                Katie
