Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for The Children of the Forest

Hello everyone ~

Work continues on "The Children of the Forest." I wanted to take this opportunity to apologize for the extended length of silence. When I renewed my focus on this project back in February, I made the difficult decision to restructure much of the original novel. That means entire subplots, characters, and even parts of the original premise were changed drastically or removed altogether.

Since passing the threshold to enter into Inkshare’s Quill collection, I’ve been working nonstop on the novel, design of the book itself, and more. CotF has always been a passion project for me, and I want to make sure that when the time finally comes, and the novel is in reader’s hands that it’s as incredible as I believe the world and story is capable of being.

Given the extended waiting period, I’ve updated the Inkshares page with fresh versions of the novel’s opening 4 chapters. Check them out, leave feedback if you’re so inclined, and keep an eye out for more updates as we inch our way closer to the project’s completion.

P.S. ~

Oh yeah, and while I’m here, enjoy a sneak-peek at the next beautiful design from my favorite artists, Ellie Yong ~ enjoy!

Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for A Beast Requires

Yesterday, A Beast Requires pushed past 60 backers, and now 61 amazing people are behind me and my dream of making the world laugh their asses off. This is fantastic!

I’m taking a moment away from my notes on world building, which have been meticulously curated from bar napkins and legal pads, to talk about a few projects that I’m head over heels for.

I love She is the End. Like, really love it. Like, holy crap I am anxiously awaiting my beta copy so I can sink my teeth in and revel in the universe A.C. Weston has created. A space opera with a kick ass female protagonist, this is a book you need to read, and need to own. Currently it’s taking pre-orders on Inkshares.

My excitement for Terminus grows every day, as the setting tickles the inner workings of my brain. A world where technology enables us to talk to the dead? Yea, the premise alone sold me, and Jaye Milius’ writing blows me away. This is some seriously good science fiction, and right now it’s 44 backers short of meeting it’s light publishing goal. This book needs to be out there.

I wish I had known about Lucky earlier,. In a relatively short time I’ve become addicted to Cassandra "Lucky" Luckenbac, and need to see where this story goes. This book reads like an 80’s action sci-fi, and totally hits me in my nostalgia feels. Plus, I’m a sucker for a good conspiracy, and RH Webster looks to have crafted herself a doozy. The campaign ends in 15 days, so now is the time to jump on board and grab this book for a steal of a price.

Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for Tantalus Depths

With all the anarchy in the campaign over the last two weeks (and unfortunately, it’s probably still not quite over, but we’re going to get through it) I’ve been neglecting what I feel is a real obligation: showcasing the works other funding authors have been trying to get off the ground. I know all too well how hard it is to work a campaign like this, especially without help from the community. There are just too many books around here that deserve to see success, but have trouble finding their audience. Hopefully I can play a part in matchmaking some of these.

This week I want to recommend a very special book for everyone. Why is it special? Well, let me lay it out for you:

Out of the 113 books that entered Geek and Sundry’s Hard Science-Fiction competition, only three won: After Man, The Pirates of Montana, and The Punch Escrow (and all three earned it).

Out of the 110 books that entered Geek and Sundry’s Hard Science Fiction competition  and did not win, only three are still actively campaigning to get published the hard way: Tantalus Depths, Seven Days Dead, and First on Mars.

I believe I’ve made it pretty clear by now that I’d like you to support Tantalus Depths (I have something of a vested interest in the project), but I have to say, both Seven Days Dead and First on Mars absolutely deserve to get funded as well.

Everyone but the three of us ultimately either gave up as soon as the contest ended, or failed to get anywhere near a funding goal, but both Landon Trine and Christopher M. Johnson have been working their butts to the bone trying to find audiences for their books, fighting the exhaustion and discouragement that inevitably comes from losing a contest and striving to reach the goals they need to see publication. None of us gave up, even when others did in droves. Their tenacity, their determination, and their dedication deserve to be rewarded.

Here are their books: please, please consider supporting one or even both of them: They’re both well over a hundred pre-orders deep, and I think they both have seriously well-crafted stories to share. Pay special attention to First on Mars: it only has 14 days left in its campaign, unless Landon seeks an extension.

Seven Days Dead centers around a zombie outbreak in the Middle East. More than merely a bog-standard zombie story, however, this book explores the depths of human nature, showing how one of the most conflicted regions in all the world reacts when ancestral enemies are faced with a common foe: their own dead. This book promises to take what might otherwise be a tired premise and breathe new life into it by virtue of the greater message at its core.

As the name implies, First on Mars is a story about the first manned expedition to Mars. However, when unexplained sabotage and a suspicious suicide derail the mission, the crew is thrown into a series of paranoia-driven dilemmas as they struggle to keep the mission together and themselves alive against all odds. This book shares many themes and concepts in common with Tantalus Depths, so if you like what you’ve seen so far of my book, this will almost certainly be right down your alley!

Thomas J. Arnold sent an update for Exile, Magus

Mid-week update time.  Thanks to everyone whose supported Exile, Magus so far, it has meant a lot to me.  I’m still pushing along, and now that my schedule has cleared up I’ll be able to finally focus on the campaign as fully as I want to.  For those of you who are following, but haven’t ordered I do hope you’ll take the step soon.  Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help convince you.

Also, don’t forget that the top 10 referrers will get their choice of one of the signed art prints, a book, or a wild card reward(not so wild, more a "tell me to make you something" reward) after Magus is funded, so do keep recommending to everyone you think would enjoy the book.  Once the new artwork I just commissioned as a title page for Part 11 is finished that will take the total number of rewards available above 10, so that means that if Magus funds there will also be rolls made to see which readers also get special rewards.  I plan to keep commissioning new works throughout the campaign, and will post them here when each is completed. Now on to fun stuff.

I’ve got one more map to catch new followers up on before I move on to the previously unreleased maps.  This one is the Top of the World (and is admittedly not that spectacular).

The world’s north pole is rumored to be a haven for the world’s oldest dragons, and among those scholars who believe that dragons have a limited albeit very long lifespan the primary  that the aging dragons migrate here to die, making the region a dragon graveyard.  This theory is entirely untested however, for fear of dragons has led to very few expeditions attempting to reach the area, and those which have tried  have never been heard from again.

It is said to be a region of impassible mountains formed mostly of jagged, blade-like rocks jutting up out of the ground.  At its center lies a hole ranging from 20-30 miles across which is said to run all the way to the south pole, also known as the Bottom of the World.  Just how this seemingly impossible feature came to be lies with the conclusion of the legendary Demon Gods’ War.

With his fellow demon gods defeated, their leader Cirdresse stood astride the Top of the World and challenged the most beloved of the twin elven goddesses, Saereiscia Lataria.  During the struggle she was nearly overwhelmed, but ultimately prevailed when she flung her Gem of Power, thought to be one of the 12 Shards/Stones of Creation, into him and released its power to destroy him.  The resulting explosion of magical energy was cataclysmic, causing significant changes to the world such as the hole through it, the formation of Lake Moiyrthan and the World’s Cleft River as well as the eruption of a 10 mile high wall of flame around the continent opposite of ours.  Unable to be fully destroyed, the magic of the Gem lingers and sustains these features, and holds the planet together despite of the new hole through it.

Some of the more ridiculed theories about the hole claim it to be a gateway to Hellish realms, or to even be its own world with populations much the same as in the rest of the world.  These are assumed to be mere flights of fancy on the part of storytellers, however.  What actually lies beyond the rim is an ongoing mystery.  Most of the bard songs agree that if one where to look down through the hole that they could then see the stars of the night’s sky on the other end.  If there is any truth to this it would seem to disprove the other theories, as a portal to hell or light from cities would obscure the view.

If you want to know a bit more about the build up to the Demon Gods’ War you can read the prequel of sorts to it here at my blog.

That’s all I’ve got for today.  Again, thanks for your support!  Keep reading and enjoying!

Exciting news Masters and Apprentices! RUNE OF THE APPRENTICE will be made into an Audible Audiobook!

I can’t begin to describe how happy this makes me. I have heard so many times, "I just don’t have time to read and really wish RUNE was an audiobook!" Well, folks, your wish is my command! Inkshares has done a wonderful job of making it all happen and I am so excited hear, Aleksi, Nataraja, Domadred, Beck, and all the other exciting characters of RUNE OF THE APPRENTICE come to life! HUGE shout out to Adam Gomolin for locking the deal down. Thank you! Also, as many of you know, I just got back from The DOTA2 International Convention and Championship. TI6 was awesome!  (Congrats to team Wings on their epic victory!) As promised MONTHS ago, I ROCKED the Antimage Cosplay, mohawk and all! My brother and I had a great time and you can view the pictures directly on Instagram HERE to get captions and info about each shot! Or for those who don’t like Instagram, there is a full gallery uploaded at the end of this post.

Lastly, for those who have not yet pre-ordered RUNE, now is the perfect time because you can get 25% off the hardcover on Amazon by clicking HERE: http://amzn.to/2aX3gWo RUNE is a great read, but don’t just take my word for it, here is what Ricardo Henriquez, author of The Catcher’s Trap had to say:
"Jamison Stone’s novel, Rune of The Apprentice, presents the reader with a detailed and beautifully crafted new world. The descriptions of Terra’s geography and its inhabitants are so vivid that I could easily imagine myself walking through the avenues, squares, and marketplaces of Mindra’s Haven. But this book is not only about a well-crafted fantastic world. Probably one of Stone’s biggest achievements is his capacity to portrait his hero’s internal struggle. Aleksi is young, powerful and good at heart but lost. Having the reader rooting for Aleksi from beginning to end requires the work of a skillful storyteller; Jamison Stone is definitely that person." ―Ricardo Henriquez, author of The Catcher’s Trap
If you have not taken a look at The Cateher’s Trap, then you really should--just be warned Ricardo is a master of horror and his book is truly a scary read!  All in all, I am so excited to be able to share RUNE with you all in audio form, and dressing up in full on Antimage Cosplay at TI6 was fantastic! The Dota community rocks! I am super excited for TI7! And again, for those who have not yet picked up their copy of RUNE, snag one here at Amazon for 25% off! http://amzn.to/2aX3gWoP.S. My next convention is Dragon Con which starts Sept 1st. Expect some more KILLER Cosplay pictures :)

Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for A Beast Requires

            Well, we’ve reached another Monday.

Just a few, brief, early week tidbits before my day starts in earnest.

First off, holy shit! The WHY SO SERIOUS? Syndicate has selected A Beast Requires as their 1st selection!

I’m blown away, and incredibly honored that two amazing humor writers think A Beast Requires is not only funny, but a great book as well. Writing humor is a game of rough shot, and going in, you know that not every joke is going to land. The greatest joy I get from my readers is when they tell me about all the inopportune times they burst out laughing.

Secondly, I will be doing another awkward author video this week, talking about the world building that went into A Beast Requires. I mentioned it briefly forever and a day ago, but I feel it deserves a bit more of an in depth conversation. So stay tuned for that, and hit me up with any questions you have about A Beast Requires, or me, on Twitter @EremiticFool

And the last tidbit, my newest article is up on Killer Moose. This month I’m talking about Guardians of Order’s Game of Thrones RPG, GURPS Discworld, and the Dresden Files RPG. Yea, I go deep into settings, discussing if a game can stay true to its fandom while bringing in new players. So if you’re into tabletop RPGs, definitely check it out.

Also, can I mention how awesome the word tidbit is? So freaking glorious.

It may be hard to believe, but I’m not the most talented person in my family.
My sister has been awesome enough to create this incredible Van Gogh-inspired SCARAB poster as a limited-edition special promotion. I call it "SCARABy Night."
Or maybe not...yeah, probably won’t be calling it that again...

Anyway, from now until September 1, anyone who either:
              A) pre-orders a paperback or super-reader copy of Tantalus Depths
              or
              B) refers someone who pre-orders a paperback or super-reader copy of Tantalus Depths will get a free copy of this poster sent to you shortly after September 1. You can also buy the poster directly from her Etsy shop until that date, if you choose to.

In order to ensure that there is zero misuse of Inkshares’ referral system, I want you to confirm your referrals with me personally through private message: Just shoot me a simple private message saying who you referred, and/or who referred you.

And please, while you’re at it, take a look at my sister’s shop, just generally. She’s extremely talented and has all kinds of great crafts and artwork. It’s well worth your time.
